“A good old fashioned hotel”

The Thainstone house hotel is a good hotel if you know what to expect. This is not a contemporary, modern hotel but it is a lovely old fashioned manor house. Personally, I loved the quirky features like the beautiful long driveway, separate spiral staircases and the exceptionally high ceilings. The rooms are clean and large enough to comfortably fit a king size double bed. Reception staff are a little slow at checking in and out but always apologetic for the wait. The breakfast was freshly cooked and waiting staff very friendly. For me, room service was the let down - there was not a huge choice and when the food did arrive it was not of high quality. The hotel should consider going back to the traditional food that suits the surroundings. I enjoyed my stay and would go back for business.

The Thainstone House Hotel has had three owners in as many years and it shows. It is now a rather shabby and run down concern with a very second rate health and leisure club attached.

The hotel desperately needs some serious money to be spent on it in order to bring the facilities up to three star standard.

“Fantastic service”

Thainstone House Hotel

Mar 26, 2008

My husband, daughter and self stayed at the hotel for 5 days. We had a truly lovely time. The hotel is old, so please don't expect mod cons. It is a beautiful old building set in beautiful Scottish countryside. The staff are probably the loveliest and most hardworking staff I have ever met-nothing is too much trouble.

We had a problem with our shower in the room and the lack of information in the rooms and around the hotel, this was brought to the attention of one of the managers who immediately set to rectify the problems. The hotel is apparently undergoing a change of management and they are aware that some things need changing-this is being done.

The food was amazing, the rooms lovely and clean and old. This really is a lovely hotel, with open fires and period features. Only go here if you love original features, the smell of wood, and can tolerate the worn look.

I feel that sometimes we are all too quick to critisise and therefore some of the reviews on here really don't do the hotel or it's lovely staff justice.

Go and see for youselves

“Fantastic Food!!!”

Thainstone House Hotel

Mar 10, 2008

As we have already got our wedding booked with this hotel for Aug this year we have been a bit worried by all the reviews! So we decided to check it out for ourselfs,My Fiance and i booked our meal tasting in Jan which couldn't of been any better. we arrived at the hotel 10 mins early but got seated at our table right away. Our masters of ceremonies(can't remember his name!!) introduced him self and let us get on with our meal. The staff were friendly and the service was good, we started with scotch broth soup which was amazing!! couldn't fault it, our main course looked rather small but was very filling indeed cooked to perfection. We both ordered different sweets which again were both very tasty, but decided to go with the old favourite "sticky toffee pudding!" yum. After our meal we sat down to discuss our thoughts which were very good no problems at all, Master of Ceremonies was very proffesional, and helpful with wine choice for guests etc... So all in all very good service and excellent food!!

But as we thought this could only be because it was a wedding meal tasting they could have made extra special effort i decided to treat my mum to a mothers day lunch but this time not letting them know about the wedding!!! Sneaky i know, we arrived at 15 mins before time and was offered tea or coffee, as the room wasn't ready yet, after seated the service was fast, food was just as good and we even recieved a free glass of bubbly!! staff very good not one fault!! so dnt let all the bad reviews put you off try it for yourself!!!The hotel is old and has a old smell but i think all this adds to the charachter of this beautiful place cant wait till our "Big Day!"

“Nice Hotel but needs an update”

Thainstone House Hotel

Essex, UK
Mar 8, 2008

When you drive up to the Thainstine House, the place looks stunning. It is a bit disappointing when you walk inside. The decor is a bit shabby and dated. The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. Someone even offered to take my small bag to my room.

My room was a standard twin. It was a nice size, but again the decor was very dated. The room was clean and the bathroom looked a lot newer than the bedroom. I was disappointed that my room was supposed to have WIFI, but the connection was too weak to use. There was also no room service.

I was very disappointed in the breakfast. The eggs had steamed until they were as hard as rocks and had a green tinge. The scrambled eggs were very watery. They had obviously set there for a long time.

If I went to Inverurie again, I would probably stay there again because of the staff, but it would be great if they would update the place.
