“Waterhouse, Bath”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2012

My wife and I decided to book a hotel to enjoy the Bath Christmas Markets, and was delighted with our selection!

The hotel has recently been refurbished and this is reflected in the high quality of rooms and feel of the hotel throughout. The hotel staff were exceptional providing a high quality of service in a very friendly professional manner - in particular Gail who was wonderful throughout our stay and truly made our stay a memorable experience. We would highly recommend this hotel and would certainly book again in the future.

The hotel is circa 3 miles outside of Bath and when using a taxi company we incurred an excessive £10.00 sur charge on top of the meter charge and paid an extautionate amount to travel 6 miles to a local pub for a meal which slightly dampened our visit. We would therefore suggest driving or confirming the taxi fee in advance before booking - please note this issue was purely with the taxi company and not the hotel.

Once again would highly recommend to anyone looking at staying at this delightful hotel.

We booked the Waterhouse for a rugby weekend in Bath and could not have been happier with our choice.
The first thing that struck us was the relaxed but attentive front desk staff who made us feel immediately welcome. The entire building had been beautifully and tastefully modernised without losing the authentic feeling of the country house.
Our room was splendid with a lovely views and extremely comfortable bed and great power shower.
The setting is gorgeous and from the rear terrace the views across the valley are just stunning.
Our breakfast was lovely and the staff could not have done more to make our stay comfortable.
I would strongly recommend that if you're planning a trip to Bath that you make the Waterhouse your base.

I've just returned from Waterhouse after having experienced a very relaxing evening and night away. On arrival, I was greeted in a very professional manner and shown to my room. My room was decorated to the highest standard, with a beautiful feature wall with soft furnishings. The bed linen looked new with very comfortable pillows. The bathroom was spacious, spotlessly clean and had a lovely powerful shower. There was also tea and coffee and other refreshments in the fridge. The view from my room looked out onto the valley and was so peaceful. Once again I was introduced to the manager of the hotel early evening who was extremely helpful and advised restaurants closeby for our evening meal. I think she even printed off a Map. Breakfast was freshly cooked with lots of choice and once again the staff provided outstanding customer service. There is also free parking and I believe Bath Station is very close. I will definitely return and would thoroughly recommend the hotel. Thank you to Gail and the team at Waterhouse.

Room Tip: I believe all the rooms are decorated to a similar high standard. I stayed in Room 6. Beautiful ar...

We have just stayed at Waterhouse for three days and we had a really lovely time. It is within an easy drive of Bath and has the added bonus of having free parking, unlike most of the hotels in Bath itself. The staff were incredibly helpful and gave us lots of advice on where to visit, eat and even park. Breakfast was very tasty and the room itself was comfortable. The only problem we had was with the temperature of the shower; it never really got above luke warm. We spoke to management about this on our departure however and they were very apologetic and assured us they would see to it. The other thing you might miss is somewhere other than your room to sit in the evening. There is no bar or similar so you can only go straight to your room when you return to the hotel. This didn't matter to us as we were out all the time but it may bother some people. We booked our room through laterooms.com and so think the price was very reasonable but we may have felt differently if we'd paid the full amount. On the whole we had a great stay and would definitely return to the hotel.

We booked this hotel for my birthday weekend due to the good reviews on this site, and on arrival, all looked good. There is a modern (rather unsympathetic) extension on what really is a beautiful house, and rather disappointingly, this is where the rooms are, so there's none of the character you might hope for, and I was left feeling that a room in a Travelodge would have been very similar. Anyhow, clean and neat, so made myself comfy on the bed to sleep off my liquid lunch when the most horrendous noise started up outside our window. A digger immediately outside our room was digging up tree stumps and making the most awful racket which continued for at least 30 minutes before my boyfriend went down to complain. He returned (by this time my head was pounding) without being able to find any staff, and there is no phone in the room, and no way of getting anyone at front desk. We tried to wait it out, but it continued, and so my boyfriend went down again, managed to catch someone this time, and complained. The member of staff said they would 'sort it', and went outside to speak to whomever was digging, and so they moved about 100 yards away from the window, as if that was going to help! Furious, disappointed, tired and with a pounding headache, we decided to just leave. It was too late in the day to find another hotel, so we had to schlepp the 60 miles home. Meeting the member of staff on the way out, we told her we were leaving and she offered to go and ask the chap digging to stop - too little too late. Why not do this in the first instance? Or just give us another room? Left feeling totally let down. Whilst I appreciate works may needed to have happened on the grounds, in the very least warn your clientele and place them as far from the disruption as you can. A real shame and totally spoiled what could have been a lovely weekend away.

Very enjoyable weekend break. The manageress was lovely and welcoming and the breakfast was excellent. I would recommend this hotel for a romantic weekend retreat. The location about 5 miles outside of Bath was in a valley with stunning views.

Fantastic location and great breakfasts with pleasant and helpful staff. We would definitely return for another visit. I even got a birthday card left in my room after a chat with the lovely Gail who was looking after us.
