“Good food - noisy room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

the staff and food at dinner and breakfast was excellent - however the outside door that lets you into the annex/lodge banged and shook our room door every time someone came through it which was quite often!! - owner please fix the self closer so it slows down thats all it needed.
room was ok ( we always struggle with hotel pillows)

Room Tip: Dont have a room close to the outside door numbers 10, 11, 12,

We were on a cycle holiday. Staff excellent- took the bikes into secure area for us. Rooms comfortable and clean. We were in the annex at the back of the hotel. Very quiet.

Breakfast was the "normal fare" and we had no complaints.

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms in the annex

I dropped in here with a group looking for a Sunday lunch, having had a recommendation about the carvery. The food was excellent with a good choice of meat and accompanying vegetables.
It was clearly all freshly cooked and encouraging to see it wasn't some of the usual dried up fare that can be offered as a carvery in other establishments. You could clearly see into the Kitchen which was spotless always a good sign. Other party members ordered other dishes and again these all had the encouraging Hallmarks of home cooking the Steak and ale pie was excellent.

We were a little underwhelmed by what seemed to be a take it or leave it attitude from someone who seemed to be the Manageress, whilst she wasn't rude the consensus was that she did come over a little abrupt and a few smiles wouldn't have gone amiss. The waiting on staff were pleasant and attentive

We stayed here as part of a dive club therefore we were in a groupWe found all the staff really friendly and helpful and check in was fast and efficient.

The room was comfortable, spacious and good value for money. The room even had a flat screen tv ( although a little small).

The evening meal was lovely with everything freshly cooked. All meals came out together and no one had any complaints.

Breakfast again was lovely and they even accomadated the early start and my specail order.

We will be staying again in the near future and I would recommend it to all. It is great value clean comfortable and friendly

Had an awful time here. the table we sat at had was sticky and smelled of beer. There was a few empty beer glasses that never left their tables too. I got ignored before being served. my order never arrived. when i asked about it i got a rude response and then later found out it had never been ordered, so if i hadn't asked i would have been all day waiting. The place was full of OAP diners. It had a kind of dinner hall feel to it. The food was fresh and traditional pub fare but the staff were in chaos. You would't dare try and get served or ask for a drink to go along with your meal and no one asked if you needed anything or table checked to see if all had arrived. There was a take it and be grateful attitude in the air and enough staff to cope, they just weren't. Shame the kitchen was obviously being let down by front of house. I didn't expect this to be honest. It is known as a place that caters for weddings and funeral teas ect and the staff weren't new. Dissapointed.

The accommodation was in an annexe behind the hotel. The room was spacious but a bit underwhelming. It warmed up once I turned the radiators on. The signs on the doors and mirrors about fines for smoking or damage to the room and requests to leave the annexe quietly were rather off-putting.
I was also surprised to find that breakfast was an additional charge on top of the room bill. The meal in the restaurant was really good. It wasn't cheap but was a really good, well-cooked meal.
The staff were very pleasant.
All in all, I thought that it was a bit over-priced
