Description: Parts of the ancient building of the White Horse date back to the 16th century, and the two large Inglenook open fires bear testament to their heritage with their smoking chambers and their priest hole. These fires which are always alight during the winter months throw their heat into the various bar areas. The locals bar, with its dart board, and cosy village atmosphere retains the typical English pub image. Roaring log fire, the slap of cards on the table during a crib match and the thump of darts in the board, echo quietly in this bar. No background music can be heard, just the agitated discussions of the village elders who frequent this oasis of good beer & conversation. The lounge bar, with its equally large Inglenook can accommodate up to 40 people sitting and many more standing. Used by many people as a dining area, it still retains its “Olde World Charm”. A comfortable Chesterfield and deep farmhouse chairs merely add to the pleasant ambience of this lovely area. The restaurant has been built in a new area that extends towards the lovely pub garden. Seating 90 customers it makes a perfect place to enjoy the excellent food that is always available.

The White Horse is quite simply a brilliant pub. The fireplaces are possibly the biggest you'll see in any bar, and create an incredible atmosphere.

I'd recommend booking the round table in the longe bar, in front of the fie, for the perfect informal evening with friends.

A warming log fire welcomed us into this candle lit pub on a cold wet night. Friendly staff served us well made meal with me going for the delicious burger but my wife trying the duck which she said was delicious followed by a tasty coffee creme brule. All in all a good feed and drink.Thanks.

“enjoyable meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2011

service was good.
I chose a meal from the fish board and would have rated it excellent but for two minor things, there could have been a few less potatoes and little more veg as vegetable portion was very small. It was all cooked perfectly and so was my partners.
have always liked the atmosphere at the white horse especailly the log fires and having not been there for a few years was please to see that had not changed(think maybe toilet curtains not been cleaned since I was last there either, very dirty!)
well done I will be back, and if it proves to be as good next time will tell friends about it
