“Good apart from the food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

We last stayed in an H Top hotel in Calella about five years ago. It is a cheap holiday and you shouldn't expect too much. We found the location excellent and the bar and reception staff were pleasant and helpful, The card system for drinks was fine and the evening entertainment ok. Our neighbours on the first night were very noisy [4am] but the reception staff sorted this for us and even called the police.
The main issue was the food. We always staff in all inclusive hotels including ones with three and two stars. The food in the hotel was the worse we have ever experianced. There was a lack of choice but more importantly everything was cold.We are not fussy but often found nothing edible apart from the roles and chips. Next time we will try a different hotel

Food was cold we had to microwave it before we could eat it but be careful of the microwave as sometimes when you open the door it's still going!!!! Food choice very poor. The attitude of the barstaff was very rude and obnoxious I actually got told off for asking for a vodka in my drink and made to feel like a 3 year old!!! we were told that water wasn't included in the all inclusive. Everywhere you went in the hotel it was freezing cold as the air-con was still turned right up even though the temp dropped to about 12 degrees at night. The "disco" at night was a 70's cd that was on repeat night after night

Our family of 9 have just come back from a weeks all inclusive, 1st the weather was bad for the 1st 4 days, not the hotels fault, but it just added to the dissapointment. The Hotel was very clean and a maid came in every day to make up the beds, The entertainment was only on for about 3/4 of an hour in the evening, then it was their so called disco for the rest of the evening. Ok if you are in your 60's, but we had young adults from 14 up to 20, so it was very boring for them. The food was horrible, it had no taste and was the same thing every night, one of our family is a veggie, but all the salads had fish or ham in it,The only thing she could eat the whole week was lettuce, tomato and mayo on a roll,We ended up spending quite a lot of money on entertainment and food 3 nights out of the 7 for an all inclusive holiday. To say it was a 4* hotel,it was a big dissapointment, we have stayed in 2* and 3* hotels before and they were a lot better than this one. We wont be going again. But each to their own, some people will love it, some people will hate it.

Holidayed here all inclusive end of July for 10 nights , arrived via Ferris coaches .
This holiday was value for money despite the negatives especially for families.
The staff WERE lovely and helpful and the bar staff had very dry senses of humour ,just my cup of tea.
I expected a very basic room and although a little cramped for our family of four it was a pleasant surprise to find a fridge in our room . Not only did we have a bath with shower over but a seperate shower cubicle too . We were also supplied daily with shampoos creams fresh towels etc.
The hotel is straight across from the beach. The entertainment was ok not always to my taste but they did cater for all nationalities.
The food was nice and varied but could have been a lot hotter. We never found the snacks during the day and were not made aware .
You can visit different HTOP hotels up and down the coast on the free coach and have your all inclusive food and drink there too ! We got to visit a few places. The pack up meals are great too.
Pineda is quieter but that was ok for us because we wanted to relax.
Overall we got what we paid for and for the price we paid we could not have stayed in the uk for the same price.Would I go again ? for the price we paid yes I would!

We arrived lunchtime and were told, after being passed from one receptionist to another then another that they couldn't find a booking for us. apparently, this is common with this group of hotels. There were 3 other couples with the same problem. We were moved to another hotel, by taxi, and told we could stay there if we wished. We decided to stay at the new hotel but when we went to reception, were told that we couldn't stay as our rooms were needed and we would have to go back the next day to the first hotel who had mysteriously found rooms for us. The next day we went back to the first hotel at about 11am and were told that the room might not be ready! The receptionist went away to find out and didn't come back. After 15 minutes I asked again and was told that, yes, the room was ready. Sadly, this sort of thing tends to spoils the holiday a bit. Only one of he receptionists seemed helpful. The rest seemed to be on a different planet and were completely unhelpful.
The rooms are fine. Clean, spacious although the bathroom was fairly small with a bath, overhead shower and, strangely, a shower cubicle although if your a little portly, you wont be able to use the cubicle. The balcony is quite small with a very old, very dirty round plastic table and two chairs well past its use by date. The balcony we had had a sea view but overlooked the main road and the railway track (about 75 meters away) so was pretty noisy. The trains run from about 6am 'til about midnight, very frequently! Also, the entertainment at the bar is outside so, as the music is VERY loud, deciding whether you want entertaining or not isn't an option. It doesn't finish until about 11.30pm. The rooms are cleaned daily and the maids do a good job. The room furniture is decent although the TV is an ancient 20" CRT which really should have been replaced with a flat screen in this day and age. There is a drinks fridge which is empty but can be utilized for keeping water, milk etc, cold. There are no coffee making facilities so, if you are going to stay at this hotel and like that early morning coffee, take a travel kettle and some cups. The room walls are wafer thin so if you have noisy neighbors, it may prove to be a holiday from hell!
The food is indescribable but I'll try! This hotel has the distinction of being the only hotel we have stayed in that consistently serves cold food. As an indication of how cold, the dining room has two old microwaves to re-heat your food in! This in a "four star" hotel. The menu is boring, the quality of the food is poor and the way it is cooked is amateurish. The type of food suggests that the hotel mainly caters for German tourists and there are a lot of German families there.
When you arrive you will be given a) a room card key b) an all inclusive id card( that's if your all inclusive) and c) a "glass" card. When you go to the bar, you will be asked for the " glass" card. You will then be given one drink. When you return the glass you will be given another drink. At the end of the night the bar staff will return your card. If you're in a party of four and you go to the bar for all the drinks, you will need a) four empty glasses or b) four cards. Think kindergarten lunchtime and you get the idea. I'm sure this system saves the hotel a lot of drinks and therefore money. The hotel has WiFi but its 5 euros a day so its not cheap. The publicity says there is free bike hire but the bikes are ancient and rusting. One of them had no brakes and a flat tire. When reported to the hotel reception, no-one seemed at all fazed as if they had heard the same complaint many times before. The letter you receive on arrival states that sea view rooms are an extra 20 euros a day. We weren't charged but it's worthwhile checking if you've asked for a sea view. The charge may be made locally!
The pool on the roof is a rather scruffy looking concrete affair, quite small and only 1.6 mtrs deep. Most of the roof area is taken up by sun worshipers and the bar up there closes about 2pm in the afternoon. You can't take drinks up there, you need to get them at the bar.
To conclude. This is our first and last experience at an HTop hotel. How on earth it got four stars is beyond me. It is, at best, borderline 2/3 star. It's only saving grace was that the rooms, and the hotel generally, are clean and well cared for. Incidentally, I emailed Htop head office with an inquiry 3 times before we arrived both in English and Spanish. I didn't get reply so its an indication of the general attitude of the company towards its customers.

Room Tip: All rooms are subject to lots of outside noise but if you don't get a sea view, you may find you...

Just had a ten night stay at the Pineda Palace and what a let down. Me and my girlfriend more or less gave up going to the dining room for the meals as we found the food to be the worst we have known in an all inclusive hotel. All the bar staff apart from one chap never smiled and the system they use for getting a drink was ridiculous. You are issued with "glass cards" that are handed to the bar staff when you get your first drink and you can only get another if you present your empty glass at the bar. Pineda is a boring little place so we spent time in Santa Suzanna and visited the Royal Sun hotel where we have stayed several times before. This is also an Htop hotel but what a difference!! Happy staff and a lively and welcoming bar area.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of tal appartmentshe hotel are quiet but the view is of locals appartments.

this hotel was clean enough and close enough to the beach and the breakfast was ample. However, its only HUGE downfall is that every night they have a cabaret/disco/live music UNDERNEATH the hotel so that anyone wiht a front facing room is kept up until midnight wiht loud booming music. I mean so loud you cant hear yourself think, you cant hear the tv, you cant sleep or anything. Meanwhile down in reception when you go to complain you can hardly hear a thing down there.
THEN there was the fag ends and broken glass on my balcony, obviously dropped by people in rooms above but still, the hotel should address this issue. I could have cut my foot had I gone out barefoot Luckily the spanish lady in the neighboruing room warned me as she had broken glass on her balcony too. Disgusting.
