We arrived lunchtime and were told, after being passed from one receptionist to another then another that they couldn't find a booking for us. apparently, this is common with this group of hotels. There were 3 other couples with the same problem. We were moved to another hotel, by taxi, and told we could stay there if we wished. We decided to stay at the new hotel but when we went to reception, were told that we couldn't stay as our rooms were needed and we would have to go back the next day to the first hotel who had mysteriously found rooms for us. The next day we went back to the first hotel at about 11am and were told that the room might not be ready! The receptionist went away to find out and didn't come back. After 15 minutes I asked again and was told that, yes, the room was ready. Sadly, this sort of thing tends to spoils the holiday a bit. Only one of he receptionists seemed helpful. The rest seemed to be on a different planet and were completely unhelpful.
The rooms are fine. Clean, spacious although the bathroom was fairly small with a bath, overhead shower and, strangely, a shower cubicle although if your a little portly, you wont be able to use the cubicle. The balcony is quite small with a very old, very dirty round plastic table and two chairs well past its use by date. The balcony we had had a sea view but overlooked the main road and the railway track (about 75 meters away) so was pretty noisy. The trains run from about 6am 'til about midnight, very frequently! Also, the entertainment at the bar is outside so, as the music is VERY loud, deciding whether you want entertaining or not isn't an option. It doesn't finish until about 11.30pm. The rooms are cleaned daily and the maids do a good job. The room furniture is decent although the TV is an ancient 20" CRT which really should have been replaced with a flat screen in this day and age. There is a drinks fridge which is empty but can be utilized for keeping water, milk etc, cold. There are no coffee making facilities so, if you are going to stay at this hotel and like that early morning coffee, take a travel kettle and some cups. The room walls are wafer thin so if you have noisy neighbors, it may prove to be a holiday from hell!
The food is indescribable but I'll try! This hotel has the distinction of being the only hotel we have stayed in that consistently serves cold food. As an indication of how cold, the dining room has two old microwaves to re-heat your food in! This in a "four star" hotel. The menu is boring, the quality of the food is poor and the way it is cooked is amateurish. The type of food suggests that the hotel mainly caters for German tourists and there are a lot of German families there.
When you arrive you will be given a) a room card key b) an all inclusive id card( that's if your all inclusive) and c) a "glass" card. When you go to the bar, you will be asked for the " glass" card. You will then be given one drink. When you return the glass you will be given another drink. At the end of the night the bar staff will return your card. If you're in a party of four and you go to the bar for all the drinks, you will need a) four empty glasses or b) four cards. Think kindergarten lunchtime and you get the idea. I'm sure this system saves the hotel a lot of drinks and therefore money. The hotel has WiFi but its 5 euros a day so its not cheap. The publicity says there is free bike hire but the bikes are ancient and rusting. One of them had no brakes and a flat tire. When reported to the hotel reception, no-one seemed at all fazed as if they had heard the same complaint many times before. The letter you receive on arrival states that sea view rooms are an extra 20 euros a day. We weren't charged but it's worthwhile checking if you've asked for a sea view. The charge may be made locally!
The pool on the roof is a rather scruffy looking concrete affair, quite small and only 1.6 mtrs deep. Most of the roof area is taken up by sun worshipers and the bar up there closes about 2pm in the afternoon. You can't take drinks up there, you need to get them at the bar.
To conclude. This is our first and last experience at an HTop hotel. How on earth it got four stars is beyond me. It is, at best, borderline 2/3 star. It's only saving grace was that the rooms, and the hotel generally, are clean and well cared for. Incidentally, I emailed Htop head office with an inquiry 3 times before we arrived both in English and Spanish. I didn't get reply so its an indication of the general attitude of the company towards its customers.
All rooms are subject to lots of outside noise but if you don't get a sea view, you may find you...
