I agree with the other reviewers. A great place for peace and quiet. There's a permanent art exhibition and the occasional concert. One can only express admiration for the achievements of the owner who has restored this old monastery over the last 25 years and is continuing to do so. The evening meal is one course only and is well cooked, Tables are shared with other guests who may be of an intellectual nature. We shared with a lecturer in Medieval Spanish, an ex-restorer of old buildings and an administrator of an art charity- all English. Could there be a better fit of occupations for this hotel?
The first night we were there there was the worst electric storm, for many years, causing a power cut. We ate by candlelight in these old monastery buildings during the storm; atmospheric is hardly the word.
Note though, that this is not a luxury country hotel. Beds are small, rooms not very clean and service, although friendly and inclusive is not top rated. Staff tend to disappear back to the local village as early as possible and one evening forgot the coffee after dinner but actually the place is probably informal enough to allow you to go into the kitchen and make your own!
Overall an eccentric place, which I am glad to have stayed in and a memorable experience.
