“Nice countryside stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2013

This is a farmhouse in an olive grove just outside of Scandicci. It consists of several buildings. We were the only guests at this time. It is a very rustic place, lots of history with family portraits on the wall, antique furniture, wood beam ceilings, stone flooring, wall paintings, old window shutters, interesting faux painted walls imitating frescoes etc.
Room was big with desk and chairs. Private bathroom was outside the room just down the hall. Breakfast was served in the dining room downstairs, fresh croissants, home-made marmalades, prosciutto, salami, cheeses, egg, cake, bread, coffee and juice. The owner is friendly and explained some of the history. There is a library with lots of really old books.

Internet is sometimes slow and coverage inside room is not very good. Parking is onsite.

The location is perfect for visiting Florence. The B&B is a short drive from the tram station with free parking in Scandicci. From there you take a 15 min tram ride for Euro 1.20 into town and don't have to worry about parking in Florence. Also there is a large Coop supermarket next to the tram station, a great place to stock up on Tuscan food items.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Its an old family property from the early 19th century and you can clearly see that in both the buildings and furniture and the age of the vineyard and olive grove. Amazing that after all these years that most features are tradition (well the bathrooms are new!!). The food was great. The walk up the hill to the church provided even more spectacular views of the area. The host Riccardo was second to none, his recommendations for local restaurants were just perfect. Oh and breakfast is just the best. A really great way to start the day.

We stayed here for a week. It is an authentic old family house with antique furniture. We were welcomed by Riccardo and we felt welcome. There are only 3-4 rooms, so we had the whole house to ourselves for a couple of days, which was a treat. Breakfast is biological and you get all sorts of things from the garden. We even tasted some of the homemade, chemical free wine.

Hidden in the beautiful hills around Firenze the Poggio al Vento is situated amidst olive groves and vineyards.
A picture out of a magazine, where you cannot imagine you’ll have a chance to look inside.
A villa filled with “old and new” memories, a warm soul, good vibrations, lovely furniture, an impressive library, all this makes you feel at ease. Everyday, after a countryside trip, you long to go “home”.
The warm family was always nearby when needed, providing very useful information and tips.
The homemade breakfast made every beginning of the day perfect !
-
1. A car is recommendable
2. A pity, that in the distance the landscape is scarved by the highway, happily not visible from the villa.
