“Away from all the hustle and bustle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2012

This was my 5th trip to Airone - and its always a pleasure to stay here. The hotel is surrounded by hills and fields and great country walks .... or hire a bike to see even more. The hotel is a warm and friendly place to stay. The rooms are clean and well maintained but a change is needed in the decor, but if you are like me I only sleep in the room so not a big deal.

Room Tip: No. 3 is my room - near to the pool with a little terrace, however you can now hear the hustle of th...

Other reviews are right that the rooms are a bit basic but they are comfortable and kept very clean. The pool was also well maintained and the gardens were very peaceful despite being just minutes from the edge of Pisa, whilst commanding great views of the hills and overlooking fields of sunflowers. Overall very relaxing place to stay with a charm of its own as well as a great base for Pisa, Lucca and beyond.

We had read the reviews of others getting lost finding Airone, the directions we received were not quite right, but we managed with GPS. The hotel was a bit out of town which we expected, it was clean, but stark and no amenities in the rooms. The walls are thin so you hear your neighbors. Upon arrival the service was great and helpful with directions into Pisa and the airport. Service was then hit or miss depending who was working as was the wifi. The A/C unit in our room also was not working. It was clean, reasonable cost, but we are not likely to return.

After arriving by bus at the bottom of the country lane leading to the hotel, I was completely enchanted by the location and surroundings. The hotel is set against the backdrop of the rolling Tuscan hills and to reach it you walk through lush fields of poppies along the riverside. Absolutely beautiful! The hotel itself is charming and the staff very attentive. The restaurant next door was also very good, the staff there couldn't do enough for you. I would most definitely return.

Situated In a picturesque part of Tuscany, on the outskirts of Pisa. The rooms are large, well equipped, clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful and even manage to locate us free parking for our trip to Florence! the on site restaurant is simple, but serves good food at an even better price. The pool looks nice, but we never used it. given its remote location a car is almost a must, although bike hire is available on site for €12 a day (at the time or writing) if you wanted to go to Pisa without using a car. There is a nearby petrol station and supermarket, very convenient. Would highly recommend this place, and would stay again if returning to this area.

It was a bit difficult to find the first time, but it was worth the effort.
Lovely peaceful location in fields just 10 minutes drive from the Leaning Tower, but look out for the bumpy access road and tight corners and bridges
Lovely friendly welcome, and very helpful. The staff speak good English. They booked us a table at our favourite restaurant in town, the Osteria dei Cavalieri.
Room was clean and the bed comfortable.
Good free car park.
There is a Carrefour supermarket just down the road (need to drive) but plenty of choice and we just bought the essentials for breakfast and ate in the room.
There are no tea/coffee facilities - if you can, take a travel kettle and tea bags / coffee sticks.
Watch the petrol stations, especially the Shell next to Carrefour. They run 2 rates - Self and Servito. Make sure you choose the right pump island, as the Servito is 10 cents per litre more expensive, and the price is already €1.65 for Self!
Overall, a great hotel choice, with an excellent restaurant next door run by some lovely people. As the lady waits on table herself, service can be a little slow, but the food is great and worth the wait. Just have some more of their excellent Vino dei casa! The grilled vegetables include whole green chillis - watch out!!

Nice atmosphere and wonderful location for walks in the countryside, while the local bus takes you to Pisa in a few minutes. There is a nice pool area, and a good garden. Some of the rooms face the nearby mountains. A great place to work and rest, while you can be in Florence on the train in less than an hour if you should want to explore more museums. Recommended.
