“Great spa, hotel so so”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

We booked this hotel to enjoy the spa. I booked the comfort room which was an okay size, the only minor point is the bed, it kind off had a whole in it, it was like sleeping on a airplane seat with your legs up. We only stayed one night so I could only complain in the morning. Wasn't much they could then, but they gave me a discount on the room price, which I thought was fair.

The spa was great, we only uses the free pools and Turkish steam bath, you can easily spend two hours there. Also praise to the manager in the breakfast area, very nice guy, came to ask if everything was alright and offered us coffee etc.

Like other reviewers said, it does not feel like a 5 star hotel, but maybe because I booked a comfort room? Maybe other rooms get better service? There is no tea making facility in the room, they forgot to bring us the paper in the morning, the check out service is slow, just to name some none five star elements...

We booked an offer on the hotel website and on the booking email we asked for a quiet , warm room. We arrived on a late flight and were shown to our room which we later discovered opened out onto the busy street below . At that stage it was 1am and we were in nightclothes and didn't have the energy to complain or change .A bad move .The room thermostate we later discovered was fixed on 26% and despite complaining to reception which assured us that it would drop we had to sleep out the night at the same temperature or open the window and hear the traffic in the morning. Finally the next day after getting ready to checkout we found the hair dryer was not working .
When you pay circa €200 per night you expect better then specific requests which are ignored ( the hotel was far from full ) , heating that can't be regulated and hairdryers that don't work
Avoid room 127 or at least check out the faults above are rectified
I was offered an upgrade by next time . I don't intend to spend another €200 to find out if they get it right this time

Room Tip: Avoid room 127

This was my second time to visit the place and I was not disappointed. The staff is genuine and friendly, room is huge, food is delicious and spa treatment is one of the best in Italy. And the price you pay for it is reasonable.

We had a top 3 days here. The staff are friendly and real, the srooms spotless and big. The hotel is like a palace and was the grand residence to the Medici successors Lorenzo, it is all set in a splendid location in the rolling hils, beautifuly placed to visit the nearby villages. The spa treatments were super we both had massages and a scrub and they were well worth it andde ent prices at 75 euro for a hotel. The food was lovely local and tasty and the portions . Would reccomend this otel, the prices are highbut the building and interior are well kept the grounds stunning and it takes a lot to keepworks of art looking good. Very Good breakfast!

First of all: Excellent Maitre D'

The food, while better than average, and pretty excellent by comparison to 'the world', this is Tuscany: And this is where excellence is easily obtainable.

The Duck was pretty good, and well worth a try. Definatly worth a visit. But if I had to choose just one place in this area, it wouldnt be Bagni di Pisa. It would be Locanda Sant Agata (3km away), or just acorss the road 'Pasta e Vino. Both are just 'better' in every way (OK, Pasta e Vino doesnt have the 5 star service), but for food. Its definatly a Diamond, but it just doesnt out shine the Diamonds that Glint nearby.

My husband and I went here for a week at the end of September, we had the most enjoyable
holiday. The hotel and staff were wonderful, we had a junior suite which was perfect.
We went half board food was good but we had the same choice everyday, which did become boring, saying that it was excellent quality.
There is a restaurant in the village that serves beautiful food at a reasonable price.
all in all holiday was so good.

Room Tip: We had a junior suite which was perfect

We stayed here for 4 nights in July 2012 to celebrate our wedding anniversary and were delighted with our choice of hotel. Bagni di Pisa is set in a small genuinely rustic Tuscan village between Lucca and Pisa. Both towns are accessible by car, train from San Giuliano or bus, once you have explored the small village (Dont forget trying Pasta e Vino for dinner for pleasant rustic Tuscan cooking at affordable prices - helps if you speak Italian, but fractured English and French will work!) and pretty surrounding countryside.
The Hotel itself is a stunning building; dominating the small village and is combined with a large and reputable spa. The bedrooms are well appointed, clean and comfortable with good air conditioning, marble bathrooms and a mini bar. On arrival you are given a robe and white slippers for usage in your room or when using the spa facilities. As a hotel guest you are given access to some of the spa facilities including both the internal and external thermae pools. The external pool is rather small, but a pleasant sun trap in which to squander an afternoon reading and bathing, and is naturally heated by spa waters. Dont expect to be able to dive in or swim laps! The hotel grounds are partially terraced and there's a very pleasant 5 minute walk you can enjoy under the shade of the olive trees to the top terrace where you are rewarded with a lovely view and can even spot the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa in the distance.
The staff are a real pleasure and all seem to speak a variety of lanuages fluently. Dont expect classic chain hotel '5 star' impersonal and robotic 'Yes, Sir' 'No, sir' responses. The staff we encountered were all very professional, personable, charming and motivated but dont seem too 'corporate; and seem happy to go the extra mile.
The breakfasts are very pleasant, but we were very impressed with the lunch and enjoyed an excellent risotto and ragu in the restaurant. The Shelley Bar is a work of beauty with lovely furniture and frescoed ceilings, as were some of the communal areas and suites, but was sadly empty most evenings. The cocktails are a little on the pricey side, but are well mixed and came with amuse bouche or a generous portion of snacks on which to graze.
It is true that the maintenance of the hotel is not absolutely tip top; the building requires a little extra mainenance here and there and their free bicycles to hire were in grave need of some maintenance.
All in all, I would certainly recommend this hotel to someone looking for a few days of rural peace and quiet with good food and appreciation of architecture and aesthetic style.
