I took my two young children (1 and 3), my parents, my mother in law, and my sister's family to Fonte Bertusi for two weeks at ther beginning of August. The best man from our wedding and his family also joined also with young children (5, 2 and 6 months).
This is the most amazing place for a family. You have your own apartment, 1 to two bedrooms with your own private kitchen which really helped to cook for the kiddos. Our kids go to bed quite early so it was helpful to be able to cook for them as most restaraunts in the area don't open until 7 to 730 pm.
Manuela and her family are the most friendly people you will ever meet and were most helpful giving us suggestions of things to do and see in the area.
The breakfast in the morning is a must. I would argue that it is one of the most amazing breakfasts I've had from anywhere in the world and is a MUST if you stay here. Don't let yourself down and miss out!! The cappucinos are to die for.
The pool is sizeable with plenty of shade. It is very refreshing on a hot summer day, but I could see how it might be tough to swim there during the cooler spring or fall months.
They have an amazing outdoor bbq oven area and we grilled out 3 to 4 times. It is wood fired and we had some amazing meals there.
They keep a good collection of wine there for 20-50 Eur a bottle so you don't even need to leave to find a good bottle for dinner.
The beds are comfortable and the thick walls keep the flats fairly cool. The property also receives a good breeze coming up from the valley below. A simple fan kept us comfortable on the very hot days (90F) when we first arrived.
Mr. Pisano also paints there and even let our children paint with him one afternoon. It was something very special!!
I can't compliment this place enough. Look no further!
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- Fonte Bertusi: There is no place more imaginary, and so more real, than this. You'll be greeted, upon arrival at Fonte Bertusi, by a great, colourful rooster in his cage. And it's like the heralding of a new day. Strolling around the grounds you'll find strange objects, like a huge set of eyes that peer out from the earth, a chair so high up that even on tiptoes you won't get a seat (it's good for higher thoughts though), or a dragon that time has transformed into a wagon... or vice versa. Encounters may be amusing for some, they may be magical or artistic for others and for others still, they relax the mind by bringing into perspective one's conscience and mankind's place in the world. ... more less
