“Look no further, this should be your Tuscany home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

I took my two young children (1 and 3), my parents, my mother in law, and my sister's family to Fonte Bertusi for two weeks at ther beginning of August. The best man from our wedding and his family also joined also with young children (5, 2 and 6 months).

This is the most amazing place for a family. You have your own apartment, 1 to two bedrooms with your own private kitchen which really helped to cook for the kiddos. Our kids go to bed quite early so it was helpful to be able to cook for them as most restaraunts in the area don't open until 7 to 730 pm.

Manuela and her family are the most friendly people you will ever meet and were most helpful giving us suggestions of things to do and see in the area.

The breakfast in the morning is a must. I would argue that it is one of the most amazing breakfasts I've had from anywhere in the world and is a MUST if you stay here. Don't let yourself down and miss out!! The cappucinos are to die for.

The pool is sizeable with plenty of shade. It is very refreshing on a hot summer day, but I could see how it might be tough to swim there during the cooler spring or fall months.

They have an amazing outdoor bbq oven area and we grilled out 3 to 4 times. It is wood fired and we had some amazing meals there.

They keep a good collection of wine there for 20-50 Eur a bottle so you don't even need to leave to find a good bottle for dinner.

The beds are comfortable and the thick walls keep the flats fairly cool. The property also receives a good breeze coming up from the valley below. A simple fan kept us comfortable on the very hot days (90F) when we first arrived.

Mr. Pisano also paints there and even let our children paint with him one afternoon. It was something very special!!

I can't compliment this place enough. Look no further!

How lucky we feel we have been to have found Fonte Bertusi!. We stayed for a week in July in Il Cortile and left all our worries behind, allowing ourselves to be transported into another world, close to nature, art, peace and nurture. We enjoyed all the beautiful, thought provoking art, the lovely swimming pool, all the beautiful and varied trees, the gorgeous kittens, the amazing breakfasts and most of all the generosity of spirit of the owners, Manuela, Andrea and Edoardo.
Despite feeling 'away from it all', Fonte Bertusi is also very close to Pienza, Montepulciano, Bagno Vignoni and an abundance of other interesting villages, churches situated in countryside more beautiful that imaginable. Thank you so much to the Pisano family for their kind, warm hospitality. Liz & family. Dublin

One of those magic places you can really call "home" if not even better than home! We lost the count of how many times we've been there over the years. We keep going back over and over again, this year 3 times already and we already booked a week in May next year, when they will launch their first "in house" small, family music festival with great classical music repertoire.
This time 7 out of 8 apartments were booked by repeating guests, and all of them have been coming back for years like us! So that tells you the kind of special homey feel you get when you book a stay at Fonte Bertusi. Believe us, you wont' be disappointed!
This year, they added 4 'king size' hammocks for sampling the gentle breeze of the summer nights and get lullabied by the sounds of nature around. What a treat! My wife and I fell in love with the hammocks immediately and voted them as our #1 place to indulge in total relaxation this time!
Deers walked by, in the field during the day, while we were having a chat with the owners in the new venue they just opened up. We stood still, admiring the wildlife as if we were kids. It was simply amazing.
There is also a new building which wasn't there last year, where they plan to host music concerts, art exhibitions along with giving guests a chance to familiarize with each other in the evening and have a communal place to gather, meet up and chat over a good glass of Chianti wine and a candle lit room.
We can't wait to go back! Thank you, Andrea, Manuela and Edoardo. Your place is truly inspiring rejuvenating the soul.

This is the second time we've stayed with Manuela and Andrea at Fonte Bertusi and on both occasions we have had a wonderful holiday. Where to start, firstly the location is superb just two 2km outisde the lovely town of Pienza with it's great shops and restaurants, 6km from San Quirico another great Tuscan town, with Bagno Vignoni and Montepulciano within easy reach by car. The family are really welcoming and go to great lengths to ensure guests have a wonderful stay. The breakfasts are superb and you are welcome to share in the produce from the garden. They have a well stocked small shop selling wine, oil etc at good prices.

The grounds of Fonte Bertusi are beautiful any type of plant and tree you can imagine combined with unique pieces of sculpture and art, which give it real character. The pool is lovely and we really liked the lower deck of loungers which faced out into the beautiful Val D'Orcia where you can lie amongst the lavender and listen to the bees.

The apartments/villas are all unique and have terraces and outdoor furniture. The apartments themselves are very well equipped, spotlessly clean with good beds and bed linen. Manuela has a great attention to detail!

I would have no hesitation recommending Fonte Bertusi to anyone, couple, family or single traveller. You will receive a warm welcome and we will definitely return.

Fonte Bertusi was a highlight of our stay in Italy. For our 11-year-old, it is the first place he talks about when people ask about a highlight of his trip, with the kittens as a special part of that. Lovely apartment and pool, interesting sculptures, beautiful gardens with water lilies and a bocce course - and amazing breakfast with the best hot chocolates. The owners are lovely and helped us a lot.

We stayed for three nights and I can't recommend it enough! Owners are fantastic and very helpful, breakfast is excellent, rooms are clean, spacious, and have a well stocked kitchen. The countryside surrounding is incredibly picturesque and it's not far to go to Pienza or San Quirico (assuming you have a car). Although there's no restaurant on site, the place next door (5 mins walk) serves delicious typical Tuscan food.

Fonte Bertusi was recommended to us by a friend who had stayed previously and I can't recommend it enough! The location was absolutely stunning, the hosts incredibly friendly and helpful and the rooms very charming and comfortable (a little stuffy on the first day, but aired out when it cooled down at night). Manuela was great before we arrived, very responsive on email to help us organise a cooking course at a nearby farm hours which was one of the highlights of our trip. In the evenings there is one restaurant you can walk to (across the fields or via road in <10 minutes) or else drive to the very nearby towns - Manuela can give you the best recommendations! I only wish that we had had more time to stay and relax by the pool, and continue our slow journeys around the beautiful countryside

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Fonte Bertusi: There is no place more imaginary, and so more real, than this. You'll be greeted, upon arrival at Fonte Bertusi, by a great, colourful rooster in his cage. And it's like the heralding of a new day. Strolling around the grounds you'll find strange objects, like a huge set of eyes that peer out from the earth, a chair so high up that even on tiptoes you won't get a seat (it's good for higher thoughts though), or a dragon that time has transformed into a wagon... or vice versa. Encounters may be amusing for some, they may be magical or artistic for others and for others still, they relax the mind by bringing into perspective one's conscience and mankind's place in the world. ... more   less
