“La Fonte - in the center of Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011

I returned to La Fonte several times, because I like very much the hospitality of their owners and the location of the farm in the center of the most pitturesque locations in Tuscany.

The view from their garden towards Montalcino and San Quirico is splendid.
The house and rooms in traditional Tuscany style are inviting; so is the swimmimng pool on hot summer days.

And they produce superb red wine and olive oil !

My husband & I are artists and we've travelled in Tuscany several times. The Crete Senese and Val D'Orcia are exceptionally rich in terms of visually stunning landscapes and cultural attractions. We also particularly enjoy staying in agriturismi because we love animals and historic farmhouses. La Fonte has everything we need or want, and even though we don't typically return to the same place, we have stayed at La Fonte twice and look forward to returning again.

This is the place you have in mind when you hear the word Tuscany. Beautiful scenery, peace, nature, friendly atmosphere, good swimming pool with a nice view to Monte Amiata... It's very close to Pienza, Siena, Montalcino... The best is just to buy wine and sit in the front of your room watching surrounding hills.

We chose this farmstay based on the other Trip Advisor reviews and were not disappointed. Fantastic location just 3km away from the delightful town of Pienza. Beautifully decorated apartment (La Graniere) - with compact kitchen and two bedrooms upstairs, and pull out couch downstairs. Spent many a lovely happy hour on an outdoor picnic table with views over the Tuscan hills. Very quiet and relaxing (if you discount the roosters first thing in the morning).

We've just returned from a week at La Fonte, which we booked direct through their website. Katia and her family made us very welcome, her mother in law even made us an authentic italian pizza!

The farmhouse has 3 apartments, we stayed in Ginestra, which can accommodate up to 4 people. It is nicely decorated in a modern but traditional italian style. It doesn't have air con so may be hot in July and August but was fine in May.

The farmhouse is set up in the hills of tuscany, no more than 1 hour from Pisa, Florence or Sienna. The scenery is breathtaking and there was nothng nicer than relaxing on our gazebo-porch and watching the sun set over the Tuscan hills! The swimming pool is more than big enough for even the maximum number of people that may be staying there. It is surrounded by olive groves and is quiet and peaceful. There was also a small play area for children and a chiminea barbecue with a large outdoor table, along with free use of the mountain bikes on site.

I really can't rate this highly enough, we'll definately be going back!

First, it's very easy to find. Lots of signs and right off the main road between Pienza and S. Quirico. The photos on the website do not do justice to the awesome vista overlooking rolling Tuscan hills and villas. Each apartment has its own entrance and an outside area where you can sit and enjoy the changing landscape as the sun climbs thru the sky. We also liked being able to park right next to the apartment.

We had the smallest unit (Pagliaio). 90 euros, double. The 3 rooms were plenty spacious. Large bed was very comfortable. Kitchen was adequate for light cooking. We just made coffee and reheated a few things. All very clean. The apartments provide nice privacy; we hardly ever saw anyone. The daughter speaks English but doesn't live there. She comes by to serve breakfast. Computer in the breakfast room. Correspondence was handled efficiently.

It's a working farm. All the farmers were trying to get their crop in. They worked late into the night---headlights beaming. We loved those old WWII surplus tractors and fell asleep to their soft drone.

I must say the apt wasn't completely as charming as the photos (no straw hats and flowers!). Fairly basic. But you know how it is: once you bring in flowers and settle in, it becomes "home". It was thoroughly comfortable. And, again, very clean.

Outside there were flowers galore, even in November. The dog and cat (Becchi and Torbo) will entertain you endlessly with their play fights, then they settle down to sleep all curled up together. Farther down the drive there are chickens, pigs, partridges, and a tone deaf rooster. :)

The pool is very nicely situated. Breakfast is served in the little building next to the pool or on the terrace above in nice weather. The view from there is to-die-for. Breakfast is simply laid out and you serve yourself. No one around unless you need them. It was all so private...we really appreciated that.

I don't think the location could be any better. 5 minutes drive to Pienza. 10 to SQ. 20 at most to Montalcino. After a day's touring it was very easy to drop back by before dinner.
