Strong impression is that this is a hotel looking forward, targeting an upgrade. The facade, the lobby, the rooms and especially the attitude towards guests is of higher class one expects from 3 stars. There are hotels pretending to be more than they are , this one is understated in its price and official rating, but not the service.
The location is perfect. We were bit afraid to stay in 'very touristic town', but Pienza proved to be excellent. First, it is right in the middle of the most beautiful and most interesting area. Both Montalcino and Montepulciano are short (and beautiful) drive away, and the location gives the opportunity for sunrise and sunset drives in the valley (the smaller the road is better). Wine cellars are the best in the region. And staying here, you live for your day trip before the mainstream tourists come and you are back after they are gone! So you see the best of one of the best towns in Tuscany.
The choice of restaurants is immense, you may stay a week and visit a new place every day, and they all are good!
The service is personal and very helpful. All local advise we've got, from restaurants to wine cellars, guided us to the best choices.
The only thin sides are the breakfast and the toiletries in the bathroom which are OK but do not math the quality of the accommodation. The breakfast had less 'Toscanian cuts' one may expect and focusing more on bakery - which is excellent.and local style.
