“The perfect getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 4, 2012

I've been to Podere Spedalone for a 3 days family retreat and I was simply amazed by the place. Breathtaking surroundings, excellent food, friendly and yet impeccable service and in general an extremely nice and relaxing atmosphere.

Room Tip: The room facing west have an unbeatable view.

My husband & I had the time of our lives, we were in the area for a spectacular wedding and the stay with Giancarlo made the experience all the more wonderful. Food....prepare yourself to be taken away by imaginative impressive delicious lovingly prepared and served and explained cuisine. The vistas and peacefulness and unpretentious elegant facilities created an environment of great comfort as well as the perfect place to meet the other guests (father of the groom etc.). We hope that we have the opportunity to return to this majestic blessed place that will remain one our best "honey moon" yet...Grazie Mille Dario, Giancarlo etc....though it s not enough....love to Punto & Chipie too

My husband and I stayed 2 nights at Podere Spedalone on the recommendation of our guide Tomas from Tuscany Experts. The time here was perfect, great view, delicious food, and helpful, caring hosts. We can't decide which dinner was best-the small, intimate one with just the hosts or the large one for 24! Thanks again to Giancarlo and Nicki for everything. Hope to see you again someday. Come visit us in Texas anytime. Malcom and Sally Wetsel

My wife and I came to Italy for our honeymoon and stayed for a week at Podere Spedalone. It was the most relaxing part of our trip, but we also found ourselves busy enough with interesting activities each day. We arrived at Spedalone late afternoon and hungry, and were told that while lunchtime was over, Dario (a cook, farmer and all around host) offered to whip us up something simple. Something simple turned out to be a two hour multi-course delicious meal with fresh ingredients mostly from their farm. It was so amazing (even compared to our meals in Amalfi coast and Rome) that after this meal, we tried to get back to Spedalone for dinners as often as we could.

The hosts (the owner Giancarlo and Dario and Alessandro) were a part of the experience, and in a positive way. They were very helpful in the planning of our activities, and even arranged for a car to be delivered to us (and lent us maps and a GPS). They arranged dinner reservations for us at nearby towns and wine tastings for us at their favorite vineyards, and they were very engaging, funny and interesting to talk with, all while respecting our privacy as we were on our honeymoon.

The location is a bit remote, but we loved that about the farm. We loved the views (the property is set up for maximum sunset viewing) and the pool and the two adorable and lovingly friendly dogs Chipi and Punto. However, we did feel that you need a car, even if only to drive to the starting place of a hike.

Our room was very clean and spacious and architecturally interesting. It was equipped with nice amenities (including a wood burning stove, which the hosts lit for us the first chilly night).

Finally, we plan to come back for our 10 year wedding anniversary with our wedding party of 30 or so people! It was definitely the highlight of our honeymoon!

it is a very special place, difficult to find, kind of a secret place. If you look for something family oriented, get in touch with local people and the location, the tuscany itself it is the best place! It is really a typical rural place, but still close to some small cities like Pienza, surrounded by the Olive grove and soft hills. Giancarlo and his partner/ wife (?) anyway can give you the best recommendations. The rooms are simple but nice and still special, they kept the original structure and modernized part of it, well thought. It is a great place to relax and really forget about daily stress. Giancarlo's food is also very good, very local with the "Agriturismo concept", and you need to try one dinner at least - the surprise is it worth!
In general - we are looking forward to go back!!! Just the only point is: we need to save a bit. The only point to critizise: it is quite expensive, for normal people not easy to afford. (and I would say it is not in Giancarlo's mind to attract the upper class only).
