Our 5 day stay got off to a good start as we were upgraded to junior suite on 1st floor, which spacious and comfortable.
Like rest of hotel, furnishings elegant, although shower in bath (no curtain) perhaps let side down a little. Free wifi a positive, and absence of airco not an issue during our stay due in part to fact refurbished farmhouse building of substantial construction with thick walls. .
Charming owners Patrizio and Diana do their level best to provide a quality experience. They succeeded in our case and we had a totally magnificent stay. They shared our love of dogs and welcomed ours as on of their own, but not at expense other guests.
Hotel set in relative isolation in it's own extensive grounds with secure parking facilities. Pool was clean and well maintained.
Our hosts doubled as travel guides and Patrizio always happy to provide guests with daily tours and recommendations for stop offs for meals. He also doubles as a hot air balloon pilot and provides balloon rides to guests upon pre-booking. We did not try but other guests did and had a marvellous time.
Meals consist of 4 course set menu for dinner @ € 28/person . Varied and reasonably priced wine list as well as "honesty bar" in operation. Dinner served outside on large terrace subject weather. Guests sit in one group, which in practise we found excellent for interaction with other guests and all concerned seemed to enjoy system. Breakfast complete and well presented with separate tables for guests.
The other major plus point for this hotel is the location which is very central for visits and tours to Florence; Siena; San Gimignano; Pisa etc. I particularly recommend nearby Certaldo with its medieval walled heart reached by steep funicular railway from the otherwise uninspiring town square. Buy tickets at the Funicular shop in square.
This hotel is not for those seeking action (other than balloon rides) and big hotel amenities. It is unique in providing direct personal contact between owners and guests. I have no hesitation in recommending it and definitely plan on returning .
