My friends and I stumbled onto this restaurant in Bagni di Lucca while we were trying to find a phone to contact Hertz about our car which had died. It is owned an operated by a wonderful couple, who not only let us use their phone, but made the call for us and served as translator.
While waiting for a cab to take us to the Pisa airport, we had one of the best dinners I have ever had in Italy. Everything including pasta is cooked to order, the produce had been bought at a local market just hours before, and the fish tasted like it had slept in the sea the night before. We had a bottle of house wine that was enjoyable and a good value for its quality, though not cheap. We finished off dinner with creme brulee and coffee. Because of the individual attention payed to each dish, this is a place for a leisurely dining experience, not a quick meal.
The restaurant is located on the main drag in Bagni di Lucca. Because we are budget travelers this dinner was one of our splurges--about 35 euro each--but was well worth the price. We had hoped to get back one more time while we were in the area. Alas, we didn't, but it's at the top our list for a special dinner on our next trip.
