“It is certainly 7th Heaven!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2010

I have stayed at Settimo Cielo (7th Heaven) for the past 3 summers and am going back again this year. I love the smallness of the village and the friendly people. Staying at Settimo Cielo is a real treat because it has everything you could possibly want. Great owners, fabulous views, beautiful houses, a wonderful swimming pool and tranquillity. If you want a bit more action, you can go down to the square and eat an authentic Italian meal at Marina's Restaurant or travel outside the village and see and taste some of the other local delicacies. I never tire of Settimo Cielo and neither does my daughter who is a teenager. A lovely place and I can't wait to go back for 2 weeks in July.

What a fabulous place in the stunning Tuscan hills. The only negative is having to leave. Wonderful, warm hospitality, amazing rooms, beautiful pool . What else could you want.

After a comical ride in a golf buggy, we arrived at this truly magical place. The views are incredible, especially from the AMAZING horizon pool, and the place is beautiful, secluded, tranquil and just the right balance of rustic and luxe. Because of the layout - there are several separate buildings (beautifully restored and decorated) to stay in - there is still the feeling of privacy and space.

You begin your stay with golf cart ride through the beautiful, winding narrow streets of Casoli and up into the hills above. Once there you will get a stunningly restored private cottage with unimaginable views, the one from the pool especially - probably one of the most stunning you'll see anywhere in the world. We only stayed for a few days but could have stayed for months.

We spent a few nights here during August and had a really wonderful and relaxing time. The recently completed horizon pool overlooks the spire of the Casoli church and beyond to the Lima river below. A pavilion alongside the pool gives welcome shade (it was a VERY hot August). Our 'house' had two terraces, one of which opened off the bedroom, which was beautifully furnished with a four poster bed, dressed with 'antique' linens.

Because the house is at the very top of the village, getting up and down can be a treck, but it's well worth the effort to get to 'Seventh Heaven.' A restaurant/bar opened recently in the village itself, and can be highly recommended if you can bear to tear yourself away from the mountain top.

Completely isolated, comfortable and totally relaxing, that is Settimo Cielo (Seventh Heaven), the vision of a talented English interior designer, Garry. It includes a main house (where the owners Garry and Roberto live with their adorable dog, Gucci) which contains two beautiful en-suite guest bedrooms + three converted outbuildings which posses true rustic charm (we stayed in these). The cottages are very tastefully furnished and contained all the self-catering facilites we needed. On the lower terrace Garry and Roberto have created a stunning infinity pool backed by a newly planted olive grove and a huge canvas pavilion which provided welcome shade from the very hot sun! The small medieval village of Casoli has just the one restaurant/shop/bar at which we spent many a lovely evening (about 5 mins walk downhill there - a tad more back, although Robbie was often on hand with his 'golf cart' for a ride back up the hill - an experience not for the faint hearted!) Places we visited nearby were the beautiful walled cities of Lucca and Barga and on our last day, we left a little early and visited Pisa before heading back to Pisa Airport.

My husband and I stayed here with friends for four nights. For those willing to brave the 2-mile, hairpin dirt road up to the village of Casoli -- followed by a 10-minute uphill walk to the B&B (your luggage will follow in a golfcart) -- you will be amply rewarded with spectacular views, fresh cool air, and utter tranquility. In addition to several rooms in the main house, Settimo Cielo offers self-catering flats located in old chestnut houses, dotted around the perched top of an utterly unspoiled village north of Bagni di Lucca (45 minutes north of Lucca, around 1 hr. from Pisa and Florence). Ours had a lovely bedroom, kitchen/dining area, private bath, and two terraces -- the one facing west offered glorious sunsets (free of mosquitos, as the hotel is too far up). The accommodations are simple but a have a rustic elegance about them, and the infinity pool and shared terrace provide a bit of true luxury. It's not all that far to Bagni (where restaurants abound), or you can bring back food and eat outside -- there are several communal tables in addition to the private terrace we enjoyed. The best part of Settimo Cielo are its owners, Gary and Roberto, and their Westie (dog) Gucci -- charismatic, friendly, relaxed hosts who will make you instantly feel at home. There are plenty of walks to take in nearby parks or villages. You are also not far from skiing, if you wish to visit in winter or spring.
