We booked this hotel through Citalia and were not disappointed. For the first time in many years we spent 8 nights away without our children (who were each holidaying on their own this year). After a 3 hour delay with Easjet we arrived at the hotel at approx 9.15 pm. We had to rush to dinner, as they stopped serving at 9.30 pm and we would have had to have a buffet. The food was fantastic. Full board was included in our package and was often too much - 3 courses at lunch and 4 at dinner! At breakfast you could sit where you liked, but at lunch and dinner you were given a set table (some were in nicer positions than others - we asked to be moved nearer the sea view and this was done after a couple of days - everybody asks they told me!).
The hotel is furnished in typical Sardinian style and does not have the moderness of the Raddisson and similar hotels. To us, this adds to the charm of a place and our room, Number 116, was simply wonderful with a balcony and a fantastic view of the bay and swimming pool to the right. We could see La Maddelnea islands and beyond those, Corsica. Yes, the bathroom was a little tired looking, but perfectly acceptable. It was very hot whilst we were there and we tried to alternate lying on the hotel beach (need to get up reasonably early to get a lounger) and pool. The air conditioning in the room was a little noisy, but could be turned right down and at least worked!
The hotel, it appears, is only open in high season and a lot of the waiters seemed to be from other parts of Italy, which was interesting. Some were more friendly than others, but we found that if you made an effort to talk to them (we spoke no Italian), then they were more than happy to be friendly to you. I know that the hotel was full the week that we were there and I think that a lot of the staff were rushed off their feet. Baia Sardinia itself is a gorgeous bay and each night we would walk into the centre (a few minutes away from the hotel), after dinner, and sit people watching in one of the cafes, drinking coffee, and browse around the small shops.
We took the day long Catamaran trip around the islands, which was superb - being able to jump off and swim in secluded bays/lagoons. It was expensive at 200 euros for 2 people, but well worth it, and included lunch.
The area is beautiful. We hired a car and did some exploring. The yachts in Porto Cervo are a 'must' to see! A five minute drive away, we stumbled across a fabulous bar called Phi beach, which is well worth a visit.
On the last night of our stay it was my husband's birthday and the hotel must have noted his passport, as they arrived with a birthday cake, at dinner, for him. He was delighted and we were very grateful.
The bar prices were expensive, but I think this is just because of the bad euro exchange rate.
All, in all, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again. Next time we will bring the children!
