“Wonderful hotel, in a beautiful position”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2010

We booked this hotel through Citalia and were not disappointed. For the first time in many years we spent 8 nights away without our children (who were each holidaying on their own this year). After a 3 hour delay with Easjet we arrived at the hotel at approx 9.15 pm. We had to rush to dinner, as they stopped serving at 9.30 pm and we would have had to have a buffet. The food was fantastic. Full board was included in our package and was often too much - 3 courses at lunch and 4 at dinner! At breakfast you could sit where you liked, but at lunch and dinner you were given a set table (some were in nicer positions than others - we asked to be moved nearer the sea view and this was done after a couple of days - everybody asks they told me!).

The hotel is furnished in typical Sardinian style and does not have the moderness of the Raddisson and similar hotels. To us, this adds to the charm of a place and our room, Number 116, was simply wonderful with a balcony and a fantastic view of the bay and swimming pool to the right. We could see La Maddelnea islands and beyond those, Corsica. Yes, the bathroom was a little tired looking, but perfectly acceptable. It was very hot whilst we were there and we tried to alternate lying on the hotel beach (need to get up reasonably early to get a lounger) and pool. The air conditioning in the room was a little noisy, but could be turned right down and at least worked!

The hotel, it appears, is only open in high season and a lot of the waiters seemed to be from other parts of Italy, which was interesting. Some were more friendly than others, but we found that if you made an effort to talk to them (we spoke no Italian), then they were more than happy to be friendly to you. I know that the hotel was full the week that we were there and I think that a lot of the staff were rushed off their feet. Baia Sardinia itself is a gorgeous bay and each night we would walk into the centre (a few minutes away from the hotel), after dinner, and sit people watching in one of the cafes, drinking coffee, and browse around the small shops.

We took the day long Catamaran trip around the islands, which was superb - being able to jump off and swim in secluded bays/lagoons. It was expensive at 200 euros for 2 people, but well worth it, and included lunch.

The area is beautiful. We hired a car and did some exploring. The yachts in Porto Cervo are a 'must' to see! A five minute drive away, we stumbled across a fabulous bar called Phi beach, which is well worth a visit.

On the last night of our stay it was my husband's birthday and the hotel must have noted his passport, as they arrived with a birthday cake, at dinner, for him. He was delighted and we were very grateful.

The bar prices were expensive, but I think this is just because of the bad euro exchange rate.

All, in all, we would thoroughly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again. Next time we will bring the children!

We had a terrible start to our holiday, arriving to be placed in the old Residencia block in which other customers at the hotel described as 'are they the staff quarters?'. We had asked for rooms next to each other if possible and the hotel had placed us next door to our daughters, 15 and 17. However, if we'd wanted 2 star accomodation then we'd have booked somewhere else for a fraction of the price! The rooms were boiling hot with mobile air conditioning units with a hose that went out through a circle cut out of the glass window. They were old and not working properly. The furniture was shabby and scratched, and surprisingly contained an ugly set of kitchen units! We were not self-catering. The problem here was not the staff but the standard of the rooms. These rooms should not be sold as 4 star accomodation and are certainly not photographed for their website or in the Citalia brochure either inside or out!
We each had to stay in an emergency room in the hotel that had air-conditioning on separate nights until two alternative rooms were found, 1 day and 3 days later. These rooms were exactly what we expected and were in the new white block adjacent to the car park looking over towards the sea and pool. This block is shown in the brochure and the rooms here reflect the standard advertised.
Make sure that you don't end up in the multi-coloured block unless that is you want self-catering rooms with antiquated air-conditioning that need daily emptying or filling with water. Great view if you can tolerate the heat enough to open the shutters!
Once transferred to the new block, we had a fantastic holiday. The staff are wonderful and will go out of their way to try to help you. The food especially at lunch is superb. The pool has amazing views and the small coves are lovely to explore. We were very sad to leave and would love to return but only to the new block as it is only there that you will find what is advertised.

What is the bad review all about?

There were plenty of spaces by pool and beach. We never went on the beach mainly because the hotel and secluded coves around the hotel were just fantastic, no problem with sunbeds or umbrellas, there were plenty.. We also had a junior suite and couldn't fault it. Food was excellent. This is the best 4* we have been to for facilities and food in all the 20 yrs we have been travelling, and staying at 4 and 5 star hotels. I suppose there is always one that has to spoil it. Perhaps it you had been friendly to the staff they would have been friendly to you!!!

We chose to stay at La Bisaccia Hotel on the basis of the good reviews on this website, and we have been quite dissapointed.

We found the hotel staff quite unfriendly, not very helpful (with the exception of room service staff).

The food in the hotel restaurant was clearly below average. The most annoying was the fact that we were forced to take half-board (very expensive!), as it was the "required minimum".

Impossible to understand why is this a 4-star hotel, really, its only feature which is of a 4-star quality is the price - 1Euro for 1 minute of WiFi conection is just one of numerous examples. The hotel in general looks dated and shabby and not at all what one expects from a 4 star hotel.

We had a junior suite with a sea view, but the first thing we could see from the balcony was the hotel's car park and the main hotel building.

The beach was fantastic, however, if you haven't booked your umbrella first thing in the morning you wouldn't have a chance to enjoy the beach. As one of the hotel staff put it:
"There are 100 places on the beach and we have 200 guests in the hotel, don't you see it's full? " And this is for few hundred EUR a night that we paid?!

The hotel was magnificent and the views stunning. Beautiful resort with crystal clear waters. Only drawback was the hotel prices - £5.00 for a bottle of water or cup of coffee! We were lucky enough to have full board - the food is excellent quality but too much fish is served and not enough meat! Other than that everything was excellent.
The resort is a little isolated unless you hire a car or pay £100 each for a boat trip! There is no local transport to use and the taxi fares are astronomic. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday with quality treatment this is the place.

We made a late booking at La Bisaccia with Citalia, who were also excellent, to get a break from our hectic lives and some late summer sun and were very lucky to choose this hotel. We chose the junior suite to get a sea view and a little more room than usual and it was well worth it. We were allocated Room 406 in the Residence, only 50 yards up some steps from the main building and pool, which had the most beautiful views over the bay out to Islas de la Maddelena and beyond to Corsica. It also had 2 balconies (!) one of which was ideal for drinking a pre-dinner glass of wine. The room was kept immaculately clean by a very friendly maid who turned down the bed and left our nightware beautifully arrayed!

The best part of the hotel is the restaurant which serves top quality meals that most London restaurants would envy. Again we were lucky that, being a late booking, we only paid for half-board but were given full board for no extra charge. The biggest surprise was our first lunch when after we’d had our fill from the superb buffet plus pasta, mussels and calamares when the waiter came over and asked us if we wanted fish. We declined that day but didn’t make that mistake again and always went for the superb fresh fish with a little hors d’oeuvres. All the meals were excellent, especially the fish, and they were served by very skilled waiters. The only disappointment was the price of the wines at €25 for an average Sardinian wine or €30+ for a better Italian one. Our tip is to buy wine at the local Spar (for €4-5) and drink before eating. If you do want a glass of wine with the meal ask the waiter to keep it for the following lunch or evening meal, which they will happily do.

The main problem was the weather which can hardly be blamed on the hotel. We stayed in the 3rd week of September and had mixed weather of cloud, thunderstorms and 2 rainy days, but with some sun most days. The hotel staff were very sympathetic and said that they had had 5 months without rain. After the storms had retreated east to Greece we had a glorious last day of blue skies and temperatures in the high twenties. It was a taste of what we had missed so if we return, which we might well do, we would go earlier in September. We still had our rest and relaxation which was what we went for.

In summary, the Hotel La Bisaccia was a great place to relax and enjoy eating the superb hotel food – just don’t drink the wine!
