“Extremely Relaxing stay at La Rocca”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2007

Stayed in the last week of August. My expectations were not that high to be honest ....but we were very pleasantly surprised.
The hotel was immaculate, the staff from the chambermaids right through to Waiters , Waitresses etc could not have been friendlier or more professional. We thought the food was excellent and varied with a choice of about 30 dishes for your cold buffet starter the next two coursed were selected from the menu with four choices in each the children always found something suitable to eat and if they didn't fancy anything the head waiter would ask what they wanted. Sweets were from the buffet and again very varied and beautifully presented.

Brochure photographs can sometimes let you down once you arrive at the hotel but again in this case it was probably understated. We met several mainly English guests at the hotel and they all seem to be very impressed too.

The hotel may be a little isolated but a regular service is offered by the hotel taking guests to the lovely private beach or to Baie Sardinia nearby. A car would still be recommended to really appreciate the incredible scenery around this lovely part of Sardinia.

  • Liked — Pool, Food, A/C Rooms! and the great staff including the cat.
  • Disliked — Quite honestly could not fault it.

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.
The Good
We stayed at La Rocca last week and had a great time. The whole hotel is clean, tidy and well maintained. The staff couldn't be more helpful and friendly. We stayed half-board. The continental breakfast was ample and the 4 course evening meal more than ample. If you like fish & pasta you wont go far wrong. The location is quiet and relaxing. There is a shuttle bus to and from the hotel beach (about 5-6 mins away) where there are free sun loungers and parassols. The beach itsefl is very nice. The sea slopes quite gently so that even if you are more of a paddler than a swimmer you will be ok. If you want relaxation this is the hotel for you.
The Bad:
No real problems only minor observations. If you are a strict vegetraian you may need to speak to the hotel staff. I eat fish and so it wasn't a problem. I am sure that they would accomodate, but there wasn't a lot on the standard menu that was without meat or fish. As always menu's are not to everyones taste and whilst we loved the food there were others who were less impressed. If you venture into Baja Sardinia itself there are numerous places to eat. If you don't hire a car you will have a very quite holiday. The hotel is a little outside of the main resort area (beyond walking distance) and although there is a shutte bus this is not to everyone's convenience. We hired a car which made our stay much more enjoyable. There is a childrens pool, but beware that this is immediately adjacent to the adult pool which has no real shallow end. If you are after exciting nightlife (without having to drive into the resort) this may not be the hotel for you.
The Ugly:
You obvioulsy haven't seen me in my speedo's!

  • Liked — Clean & Well maintained with helpful staff
  • Disliked — You need a hire car to get about

We were not originally booked to stay at Hotel La Rocca, but we are now so pleased that this was where we ended up! (48 hours before departure, Thomson holidays informed us that our original hotel was overbooked.)

We stayed in a junior suite, which was exceptionally clean and very spacious. My only criticism is that sitting on our patio at night was not the most peaceful experience, as our room was situated close to the air conditioning units! However, we soon acclimatised and spent more evenings at the bar instead!

The hotel is very lovely, with a fabulous pool and beautiful gardens. Its situation is a little remote, being too far to walk into Baia Sardinia or to the beach. However, the hotel does offer a minibus shuttle to the beach and Baia four times a day - although careful planning is required if you don't want to be marooned at either place for too long!

The breakfasts and evening meals were good, with plenty of variety. However, there is only a limited choice at lunchtime. The bar prices were typical of most hotels, although when Marcella is on duty you can be assured of some wonderful measures of your drinks! Please can someone try and cheer her up? She is a lovely girl, but seemed to be suffering from boyfriend troubles which was making her sad!

Must just say that all the staff are lovely, very friendly, hardworking and do their utmost to make your stay pleasurable. NB - if you have a late departure flight, book a space in the courtesy room quite early in your stay. We didn't and ended up changing in the loo!

This is an ideal spot for a very quiet and relaxing holiday. All in all, despite our somewhat inauspicious start, we really enjoyed our time at La Rocca and met some lovely people.

Relax by a beautiful pool
My husband and I have just returned from a delightfully restful holiday at the la Rocca hotel Baia Sardinia. Everything about the hotel was enjoyable. The rooms were large and airy, there was plenty of choice at breakfast. The evening meal too was very good, with an extensive buffet starter. The staff were exceptionally helpful, friendly and polite - nothing was too much trouble. The pool is glorious - there were plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. It would be an idea if they served lunchtime snacks round the pool, you have to go to the terrace to eat, but that is a minor criticism. The hotel runs a mini bus to the beach and into Baia Sardinia 3 times
a day, but car hire is advisable if you want to go further afield.. Tne roads were very good and driving was no problem, as long as you remember that Italian drivers have an unnerving habit of suddenly pulling out in front of you. I would recommend this hotel for anyone just wanting to rest and relax. Although eating out was reasonable, one should bear in mind thar for shopping Sardinia is a very expensive island, I picked out a tee shirt intending to buy it for my
7 year old grand daughter but was astonished to see that it was marked up at 50 Euros - so do shop around. But above all enjoy La Rocca.

  • Liked — The hotel had only 1st and 2nd floors and the layout wa that of a Sardinian village, evrything about it gave the impression of brightness.
  • Disliked — It was a little far from bars and shops so you really needed a car if you wanted to leave the hotel in the evening.

Just returned from a week at La Rocca...
The hotel itself is very pretty with rooms spread out from the main reception in a mini-village style, with planting and grass areas to give a very tropical feel.
We stayed in a Junior suite which had a separate lounge and a patio. The rooms were simple and fresh in decor with cool tiled floors and well-maintained. They were kept spotlessly clean by the enthusiastic staff, who washed the floors and cleaned the windows/patio doors every day alongside cleaning and dusting the room.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was of a high standard with good choices for dinner every night (this is a half board hotel). Breakfast is continental, but the selection was still good - eggs, cheese, meats, pastries, cereals, fruit and breads.
The swimming pool is built into a natural rock formation and the waterfall was working all the time that we were there.
The one negative to point out about it is that it's a long walk into Baia Sardinia and there is no path for the full route (but new pavements were being built). The hotel does provide a courtesy bus, but you need to spend 2 hours between trips and Baia is a small place!
Overall we could not fault the hotel, it is a great base for exploring the area and would recommend a car. Many places of interest are less than 20 mins drive away - Porto Cervo, Bear Rock, Palau.
It's a very quiet hotel and I would recommend to couples and those with very small children who are looking for a relaxing break.
...And finally, the cat Portia is still being spoilt by all who meet her!

Booked this hotel knowing it was a bit out of the town centre but the pool and waterfall looked inviting and all we wanted was to sit by the pool and read a book for a week.
We arrived on the first day of the new season and were disapointed to see that the pool was unusable in fact it was still being filled and dispite many promises by the management, was not available for the first 3 days of our stay.
I only ever saw the waterfall working once during our week and that was for less than and hour
The rooms and the food were adequate but the Sky tv was not working properly as the management "had not upgraded the system"
This is not a bad hotel it just needs to get its act together.
If you do go look out for Porcher the hotel cat it's a delightful friendly tabby and relies on the guest (mostly brits of course) to feed her. Please promise my wife you will look out for the cat.

Recently returned after two weeks at the Hotel La Rocca. We really enjoyed our holiday there, it was very relaxing. We hired a car for the fortnight and would recommend you hired one for a stay there.

Good bits - We took our car on the ferry to La Magdalana, the town is well worth a visit.
Another ferry visit to Bonnafacio, as a foot passenger. This town is spectacular, and the shopping is better than in Sardinia.
You must visit Porto Cervo, we had a day trip and a night trip, it is a great people watching place.

The hotel has a private beach which is a bit stoney but quiet and there is always beds available, the sea is very clear but watch out as it becomes quite deep quickly.

Food at the hotel is quite good, however, do try the restaurant across the road as it is typically Italian and the food is great. Order the house red with your meal.

A word of warning if you want to take travellers cheques, dont, you cant change them. The banks dont want to know, and give you all sorts of excuses to why they cannot change them, ie we have no money. Take cash and you can get money from the cash point machines, they are quite plentiful.

Lastly, learn a bit of Italian as they really do appreciate the effort, and say hello to Sylvia at the bar who mixes a mean Margarita and Porshe the local cat.
