“Drive around the lake.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

Ensure you drive clockwise around this stunning lake, we loved the area and stopped at mount Baldo and went up in the cable car wow ! We spent a full day around the lake and enjoyed the drive and beautiful countryside. Only downside is ITALIANS are shocking drivers no patience what so ever, but no problems in the many bars and restaurants we visited over 9 days traveling from Garda to Sorrento. They wouldn't last to long driving in the UK !!

“Travelling to and from Lake Garda by train and bus”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

We travelled from Venice to Lake Garda by train and bus and then travelled from Lake Garda to Florence by bus and train.
We didn't book any train tickets in advance and as we hadn't travelled by train in Italy before this was the part of our holiday that we weren't 100% sure about. However everything went very smoothly and I would thoroughly recommend the public transport in Italy.
We arrived at the Santa Lucia station in Venice and purchased a ticket to travel to Peschiera Del Garda. This was quite simple as we opted for English, chose our destination, time and then we could pay by cash or credit card. For 2 adults this was 19.30 euros which we thought was excellent value. The train was on time, very clean and we easily found a seat although don't leave boarding the train until the last minute otherwise you might not be so lucky. Once we had arrived at Peschiera Del Garda we then travelled by bus to Bardolino which I think was approx. 5 euros for the 2 of us as we purchased the tickets on the bus. It would have been cheaper if we had purchased the tickets at the station.
While staying in Bardolino we caught the bus to Verona for the day which was very easy to do and we purchased the tickets from the tobacconists as that was cheaper.
When we left Lake Garda we caught the bus to Verona then travelled by train to Florence. Again we used the machine and found the process very easy. We travelled from Verona to Bologna, changed at Bologna then travelled to Florence. The train from Bologna was a very fast train and you had to reserve your seats. Bologna station is very large so if you have to change please allow enough time. The fast train was more expensive, from Verona to Bologna was 18.30 euros for 2 adults. From Bologna to Florence was 48 euros for 2 adults.
We travelled for the day from Florence to Lucca and that was 14.20 euros each way for 2 adults
We then travelled by train from Florence to Pisa which was 15.80 euros for 2 adults.

Compared to the trains in the UK I think the trains in Italy offer great value, were on time, clean and easy to use.

“Great holiday atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We spent a few hours here while visiting some towns along the shores of Lake Garda.

Lovely place, -- lots of cosy cafes, restaurants, nice shops and of course great views of the Lake.

The promenade is especially lovely with trees and flowerings plants all around ---very relaxing to sit by the Lake and take in the scenery and fresh air.
