“A great Italian place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2009

We spent 5 nights here after Christmas in 2008 and had a fantastic experience. Having booked at very short notice, and having initally looked for somewhere in Milan, we were absolutely delighted with the hotel and particularly the restaurant.

We had booked a room with 2 double beds, but on arrival were offered a double and a twin which were much more comfortable. The building is very old and full of charm and history. The ground floor is the restaurant, and although I think we were largely the only guests staying in the hotel, each night it filled up with locals and Italians who appreciated its wonderful cuisine. In fact, on New Year's Eve, there was a gala dinner which attracted over 200 guests (held in the function suite on the top floor) and families had come from as far afield as Milan and Lugano on the strength of previous visits.

The food was absolutely wonderful. The staff gave us lots of time and advice, and tweaked dishes for our children's palatte. Breakfast was a delight and kept us going till well past lunchtime! Each morning the owner gave us travel advice / local history to help us plan our day and consequently we spent four lovely days driving around the towns and villages of the lakes. We also took the train into Milan to visit the cathedral which was well worth the effort - especially climbing up to walk on the roof.

I could not recommend this hotel highly enough for an authentic Italian experience and a relaxing, food-filled trip.

What a wonderful place - looked a bit run down when we arrived but typically Italian - books and papers everywhere and service area to room and lift a bit scruffy but we had the bridal suite as we were on our honeymoon and what a room it was!! It was as big as a flat - it was a huge huge room with an ante room with huge sofa and tv and then another huge plasma tv in the main room and balcony and also a massive bed which even my 6ft 4ins husband found big and a double bath in the room with spa and walk in shower - what a treat for our last night and the food was the best we had had throughout the two weeks we had been away - we will definitely go there again especially as it is in a really good location in the midst of the lakes and 30 mins from Milan airport. A real treat.

The restaurant is absolutely stellar!
The hotel itself is quite quirky. The rooms are simple, but pleasantly decorated. Lots of vintage fittings in the bathrooms.
All the staff/owners were friendly and welcoming. There seemed to be two function rooms - one on the top floor and one across the gardens. We were there in autumn and seemed to be the only hotel guests, but both function rooms were in full swing. It was a bit disconcerting to hear sounds of socialising voices but to be sitting in empty rooms in the hotel. We thought dinner would be a bit strange in the big dining conservatory alone, but the restaurant soon filled with Italians and the food and excellent Bellavista wine blew us away!
Highly recommend to food lovers!
