“AMAZING HOLIDAY !!!!!!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

My wife and I stayed in this wonderful hotel for 10 days at the end of May 2013.We are senior citizen travellers and were a little apprehensive of travelling on our own stream !Well ,what a welcome we received on our arrival ! The staff were amazing. They swiftly settled us in and sent a complementary bottle of wine to our room.We sat on the patio of our room and was captivated by the stunning view of the Bay of Naples. Our room was extremely comfortable and spotlessly clean.Food was fantastic and restaurant staff went out of their way to satisfy our smallest need.Hotel staff and management kindness and helpfulness was more than anyone could have expected.Paul,Renato,Tony,Anatola....etc,etc (too many names to mention) made us feel like family and assisted us to choose the best local tours. We will never forget them.We had an amazing holiday that we will remember for the rest of our lives thanks to the management and staff. We sincerly hope to return one day !!! My wife cried when we left !!!!!

Room Tip: Third floor has good views.

Just returned from our first visit to this beautiful hotel and it will definitely not be our last. To be honest I thought we had been dropped off at the wrong hotel as the photos really do not do it justice. It's a jewel in Sorrento. The staff are very friendly and ensure you are well looked after. We booked a classic room through Thomas Cook which was lovely with views to the back of the hotel. The following morning we were offered a room in Villa Romita with sea views. Absolutely loved the little villa and moved in straight away. Half board basis just be aware you will put weight on as the food is to die for. We had three choices of main course every evening and nothing was repetitive. If you want lunch out in Sant Agata try Gregory's across from the church the food is great and very reasonable. Mini bus into Sorrento was very efficient and Sorrento itself is amazing. The only complaint I have about my holiday was I didn't book for two weeks. Enjoy :o)

Room Tip: The Villa is lovely

A wonderful hotel with amazing views over Sorrento. William and his team were unfailingly polite and helpful and I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is a few miles outside of town, but there are hotel shuttle buses, plus a somewhat idiosyncratic public bus service.

Room Tip: Ask for floors four or five and it's definitely worth paying extra for the sea view - stunning.

We have just returned from our 6th stay at the Grand Hotel Hermitage and already are looking forward to our 7th. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them. Location wise the hotel is perfectly situated away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento town and the hotel shuttle bus is always available for a trip into the town for dinner.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a poolside view.

First stay in our European experience and probably the best. The staff could not be friendlier and went way out of their way to accommodate any of our whims and/or wishes. Location, views, and rooms outstanding. Dining was pleasant experience as were pool and bar areas.

Room Tip: Any room offer views to the bay exceptional!

Every year we try to visit somewhere new, however, this was our 4th visit to the Hermitage. When talking to other guests, most had been here before, and many come every year. Whilst the temperatures were unusually high in June, there was always a slight cool breeze by the pool and I am always glad that we don't stay in the bustling Sorrento. From the warmest welcome from the lovely reception staff, to each and every staff member encountered in our stay, you realise that the guest is paramount. Nothing is too much trouble. Being so close to the lovely Sant'Agata is lovely in the evenings for bars, restaurants or just ice cream and a stroll. Here the locals and tourists enjoy summer evenings together. Orlando's is a must ! Orlando and his lovely wife Teresa and their two sons give you the warmest of welcomes in their bar. Limoncello served with biscotti, drinks served with freshly squeezed juices and served with complimentary bruschetta, fresh cherries to name just a few delights. Restaurants vary from takeaways, Pizzerias, traditional restaurants to a Michelin starred restaurant. The Hermitage has refurbished it's entrance and windows and shutters since we were last here, but am glad to say that they haven't spoiled the slightly oldy worldy classical Italian feel to the place. And we certainly agree with another comment, that having "Rock" the beautiful dog,(not quite welcoming...more thrown in the porch and you can rub me if you want to !) really adds a homely feel. The Hermitage is the success that it is because William, the owner, and many of his family are on hand day and night, keeping a close eye on everything. It may be that there are more modern hotels with many different facilities, but there are none that provide the certain "je ne sais quoi" of the Hermitage. Attracting new business is one thing, having your hotel booked out by repeat visitors, says everything about the Hermitage. Just find it !!

Room Tip: Whilst many like the rooms with the seaview, we prefer the rooms facing the lovely hills and country...

We choose this hotel for its location. We loved the fact that it was located within walking distance of a little Italian village with some really nice restaurants. But still close to Sorrento that was easy to get to and from using the hotels shuttle bus.
You could also and we did (once) walk down to Sorrento using a little path 20 meters from the hotel down the countryside. A really beautiful but grueling 30-40 min walk not to be recommended if you have bad knees or are out of shape. But great for compensating all the pizza and pasta that you have been eating.

The hotel was dated and in need of a make-over both the rooms, the exterior and the interior. It felt a bit unloved and not really living up to its four stars. Our room was at the top of the hotel on the fifth floor with a sea view. Really get a sea view room because it really made up for the state of the rooms. The unobstructed view overlooking the Bays of Naples and Vesuvius was breathtaking.

The breakfast was ok but nothing more. We tried the dinner at the hotel once and for 20 euros you could have a set menu of 3-4 courses. But the quality of the food was not that good. Both breakfast and the dinner that we tried, it felt that they where serving the cheapest thing that they could find. I would have been devastated having payed for half-board and having to eat dinner there all the time. Better to eat dinner at the lovely restaurants in the village.

All in all, the location and the views makes up for the state of the rooms and the food.
