“A Trip to Remember...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012

Our trip to Italy was beyond memorable! The hotel accommodations, staff and location of La Darsena/Agropoli were perfect for enjoying the "real" Italy and leaving the touristy side out of it. The staff were very pleasant and accommodating and the price was fabulous for everything that was included - clean, comfortable, quaint accommodations, all meals included, a bottle of wine at both lunch and dinner, comfortable loungers on the beach with umbrellas, spotless beach bathrooms, lovely outdoor covered lounge area with tables adjacent to the bar, planned outings if interested, maps and local information/internet access available for planning your own trips and personal usage. We have anaphylactic food allergies(fish, seafood & peanuts) and prior to our trip I emailed a translated letter stating this and the kitchen staff were happily prepared for us, and made sure all of our food was safe. The food was simply delicious and there was always plenty of it! We rarely ate all of the courses, as it was just too much for us. When we returned late the one night after our excursion to the Isle of Capri, we had missed supper. The kitchen staff were so kind to prepare a plate of cold meat, cheese, fruit and breads to ease our tired hunger after a wonderful day of exploring. Note if you are from ON, Canada pass by the temptation to spend the $(we spent $90 CAN for 3) on the boat trip to The Blue Grotto on The Isle of Capri; it is not even close to the beauty of The Grotto at The Bruce Peninsula Nat' Park and you are taken in and out of the grotto there in 2 minutes flat and not allowed to swim, dive, etc. The train is an inexpensive, safe way to travel all over Italy and is easy to navigate; scootering in Agropoli was a fantastic way to see all of the amazing views! If traveling to Naples(a must in our minds) once arriving via the train(DON'T scooter in Naples; it is CRAZY for driving, but very entertaining to watch as a pedestrian!HA!HA!) make your way to the tourist information office. They are wonderful and will help you find exactly what you want to see via maps that they will give you for historical sites and shopping areas and of course the best places to enjoy PIZZA! Do not miss out on the treasures to be found in Paestum - the ruins & museum are unbelievable and the town itself is small, uncrowded and quaint. Everyone is soooo friendly in Italy; we made international friends so easily and this helped make our trip even more spectacular as we were allowed to "get inside their lives" and truly experience Italy and all that it has to offer. The only disappointment was that we had to leave very early on our last day to accommodate another Canadian group that had a much earlier flight than ours. I have never been anywhere that I had tears upon departure; words cannot explain how much we enjoyed the culture, the history, the food and the people of Italy!( & don't forget Bella, the friendly little dog that we fell in love with at La Darsena) We'd go again in a minute.

Room Tip: If you are wheelchair bound, there are accessible rooms with ramps and the beach has a ramp going do...

My husband & I stayed at La Darsena last October for 2 weeks. The weather was stilll very warm; often we would sit out on the beach chairs after lunch & soak up the sun. There was plenty to do even though we were the last group there before the hotel closed for the season. The food was fabulous - tons of it, & you could even ask for seconds. The servers were really patient & kind & always served us with a smile, no matter how late we arrived. We used the train & went everywhere - it was only a 10-15 minute walk into town each day to catch the train to Pompei, Baglitella, Sorrento - each beautiful in their own way. Going the other way on the line, we found a little fishing village called Piscata, way up on a hill. We took the train & then caught a bus into town - really worth the trip. Be sure to eat at the restauarnt at the top of the hill - great pasta/pizza & the view is stunning. Going in the same direction on the train, we came to Santa Maria - beautifully situated on top of a hill. Don't forget to see the Basilica there - the view is magnificent. & there's a little pizza place right in the centre of the square that serves magnifico pizza! Walking into the town of Agropoli is also wonderful - we did this everyday, especially after the big meals we ate. This is definitely not a 5 star hotel, but the atmosphere, food & surrounding area, as well the hotel & staff made it a truly memorable vacation. If you go into Pompei, visit Rosarios for his traditional pizza & specialty desserts. PS: It didn't rain one day out of the 14 days we were there.

Room Tip: Book ocean view if you can & avoid the rooms over the kitchen - they tend to be noisy after hour...

When we arrived at the Darsena we had the pleasant surprise to find a renovated hotel (as compared to the photos we had seen on the Internet). The room was very clean, confortable and a good size for two. The bathroom in our unit was quite adequate and we had a wonderful view of Agropoli and the sea. The food was home cooking type and excellent. The staff are most helpful and do all they can to please you. The view of the sea from the dining room is quite pleasant. The beach situated in front of the hotel provides at no cost long chairs and umbrellas. The water is not deep and is beautiful. We went with Air Transat and were very pleased with all the services offered with this package. It is a good based to visit Paestum (1/2 an hour ride by bus, which you can take almost in front of the hotel; and the other tourist sites like Pompeii, Salerno, Positano, Salerno and Amalfi are easily accessible by train and by boat. In summary a wonderful week at La Darsena. We would definitely go back.

My husband and I went to La Darsena May 12-19th, 2012 and we loved it ! The staff are so attentive, flexible and aim to please. The food is healthy and tasty; they even offer to make a lunch for our day trips.
It's very easy to travel from here for day trips on the Amalfi Coast; just walk to the train station and you're on your way and it's not expensive. We went to Pastum (6 minute train ride from Agropoli- 1,50 euro one way); Sorento; Pompei (5 euros). Or, if you prefer, they offer group excursions from the hotel.
The hotel is a modest, 3-star hotel. It's very clean, comfortable, beautiful. Rooms are smaller than in North America.
Be mentally prepared for a 5 hours bus trip from Rome to Agropoli but it is so worth it ! Avoid the tourists and the crowds. Enjoy a real Italian town by the sea with easy access to all the special places the Amalfi Coast has to offer.

Room Tip: The 700's room numbers are good.

Was there at the end of April 2012 and one lady in the group felt on the sidewalk and brooke her arm and 2 ribs. She had to stay at Agropoly hospital for 2 days. Fortunetely, we had some help from the owner of the tour operator company, Mr. Enzo who, stayed at the hospital one full day (eventhought he had lots of work to do) to help with the translation. The hospital in Agropoly is free for tourism.
