Having checked into The Lodge at Doonbeg after a long drive, ferry + more driving, food was at the top of our list! Darby's exceeded our expectations. We both ordered the boneless, half roasted chicken and it was one of the best chicken dishes I've ever had in a restaurant. Wonderfully seasoned and MOISTLY roasted to perfection. Usually, I leave a lot on my plate because chicken, in most restaurants, tends to be overcooked and dry. Every bite was to die for at Darby's!
The ambiance is classic and warm with a beautiful, long bar and a lively crowd + flat screen tv behind the bar.
We also dined here for their Wednesday night Sushi, but the menu was VERY limited. Certainly, there probably is limited demand for sushi on Ireland's West Coast but the Doonbeg chef has a stellar reputation and we (a crowd of 10, all big sushi fans) were rather let down. It wasn't bad, just left us longing for more variety!
As mentioned above, I felt the prices were a little over-inflated, but the Lodge is so lovely & isolated, most guests are more than willing to pay the extra Euro...as were we.
Lots of lager and ales on tap and cocktails were also well done, as it should be in a Pub of this quality. GO! Enjoy Darby's.
