“An evaluation of an uneven Restaurant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 2, 2013

In the Karditsa and the Plastira Lake area the Restaurant of the Kazarma Hotel is supposed to be the best. For this reason there we went one Saturday night. The Restaurant is indeed very beautiful with large, very well disposed and well appointed tables. There is an interesting menu even if, despite the proximity to the lake, only the trout is offered in the fish section. Being the one, in a party of four, who does not eat meat, this is what I could order. Despite my companions' enthusiasm for their meat dishes, my grilled trout was edible but undistinguished. They have a good wine list and the white wine the waiter suggested was excellent. We returned the next night. It was a different restaurant. Weary of red meat, two in the group, besides me, asked for fish. We were told they had fresh salmon. As difficult as it was to believe that, in the mountains of Northern Greece, they could provide "fresh" salmon on a Sunday evening, we decided to believe it, thinking that a thawed piece of salmon would have been as good as a fresh one. What we could not imagine is that the "chef" would grill the frozen salmon steaks without thawing them. Apart from the unpleasant smell that the grilled salmon filled the room, we were presented half-carbonized salmon steaks, completely dry and difficult to swallow. After the second mouthful the steaks rested on the plate waiting for the waiter to collect and dispose of them. When asked why we had not eaten, to our honest answer, we were told that on a Sunday night there was a different "chef". In a similar situation any good American Restaurant would not have charged the main course. At Kazarma they "apologized" by offering four mini ice-creams. I suppose any comment is redundant.

Plastira lake is a uniquely beautiful place between the mountains of west Thessaly in central Greece. The location is ideal for walking , mountain bike , horse riding ..!!!!
The Kazarma resort is the best place to be, near to the lake with fantastic view and excellent local decoration .The rooms are large and clean enough .The main building with the main restaurant and the coffee shop just above the reception deserves the best awards ....
We have an incredible weekend of rest. The hotel staff strives for the best and definitely can be improved more. The place has a relatively short distance incredibly picturesque villages.
The local dishes and desserts are delicious and very different from ordinary

Room Tip: higher floors is with the better lake view .

Nice location with a nice view of the lake from a hill. A considerable investment for a relatively big hotel with a spa, "gourmet" restaurant etc. Hotel interior, restaurant, coffee area (which is rather important in Greece) was really nice. But...

What a rip off!

First and foremost, our room (602) was simply terrible. No view, no shutters (enjoy waking up when the sun comes up?) and most importantly it was a disabled friendly room, which meant it had no coffee table, no bathroom door (just a glass) and was too "wide". I am really happy that there are rooms/facilities like that for disabled people in new hotels around Greece, but shouldn't we have been told?

Service was simply ok, but people, including waitors, reception personnel (with the exception of a couple) were borderline rude.

And by the way, I know nobody will use the outdoor pool in March, but this is no reason NOT to clean it. It looked horrible!

I wish we had chosen a simpler, cheaper hotel in the area rather than spend all this money for nothing!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view. Or don't go!

Big room, clean and excellent combination of modern and local decoration. The building really deserves all the credits it could get. Really friendly personnel with Ismini always having great suggestions to make for local taverns close to the hotel. We visited the place despite bad comments we had read about heating problems... Well I can assure you my room is more than HOT!!! I strongly recommend it for a weekend or more in lake Plastira area. Did I mention the view? AMAZING!!!

I visited the hotel with my family including my two pre-school age children on a national holiday weekend. The hotel was full of families with children. The staff was very friendly and never complained about the mess and the noise children made. The breakfast buffet included local specialties and was very rich. We stayed in a superior maisonette with a spacious bathroom and a jacuzzi. The only disadvantage was the great distance from the lobby and the lounge area to the rooms which is inconvenient when you have small children and you need to access the room very often.

My cousin held her wedding reception at this hotel and I stayed one night. Though Lake Plastiras is typically a winter destination, the wedding was in June and we all enjoyed our stay at Kazarma very much as we were able to enjoy the outdoor spaces. I was very impressed with every aspect of the hotel. It is well-maintained with a lot of character. The rooms are beautiful, spacious, and clean. Rooms closer to the top floors as well as the lower-level suites have spectacular views of the lake.
