“Going back again in a few weeks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2011

The Coral hotel is a very traditional basic Greek hottel that is set in the peaceful surroundings of an olive grove with close proximity of a large supermarket and taverna's. The breakfast is the normal continental breakfast,. Rooms are traditional and clean, small but adequate with large balcony's and a good sized bathroom. . The management are friendly and helpful. The hotel is quiet and boasts a very large pool and bar. I find staying here very pleasant and it's a nice place for relaxing either in the pool or on the beach which is only a 4 min walk from the hotel. A pleasant walk along the beach to the port of Prinos is only a short distance.. Room rates are very reasonable. I recommend staying at the Hotel Coral, which is why I will be retruning in a few weeks time..

Room Tip: Rooms facing the track to the beach give a nice view of the sea and olive groves. Back rooms view of...

My husband and I booked to stay at the Coral hotel for two weeks through the Travel Republic, but we only stayed for one week because the continental breakfast was not nice the hotel was clean but no information in the hotel about things to do or sights to see around the area the hotel was remote, information that was in the hotel was in every other language bar english kids running around the hotel 2 and 3 o'clock in morning. in the end we stayed in Thassos town for the second week of our holiday the hotel there was called Angelika, the town and hotel was lovely, it cost us 300 euros more but was worth it. I will not be booking with the Travel Republic again

regards
mary

We stayed for two weeks in August /September 2007.
The Hotel is in a very quiet location, and is surrounded by Olive Groves, and sheep are frequently seen being herded through the groves by the local Shepherds.

A very traditional Greek Island with a very nice stretch of Beach just a short stroll (5 minutes max ) away ,down the lane from the Hotel.

The Beach is even nicer if you turn left at the bottom of the lane and head off about 3/4 of a mile.
where there are a few nice beachside Tavernas, and the beach was never ever crowded (even at weekends) during our stay.

The only thing we were a little puzzled about was the lack of choice in the Tavernas. It was very "samey" in all of them.
If you like chips with everything you will be in heaven.

But the menus were rather limited, when you consider the amount of lovely fresh veg growing everywhere, it was nowhere to be seen on menus ?.

The Hotel was OK , being run by two brothers and their families.
And during my second week I became very ill (nothing to do with food I must add ) and the hotel owners were very concerned, even to the point of cooking me plain rice, and making me drinks of local brews, which helped me recover enough to be able to make the flight home.

They even brought me medication to take (at no time did they attempt to make any charge for anything mentioned ! ).

The hotel is no longer on any UK Travel Agents books, as from last summer (I don't know if this will change in the near future)
But they are going to "go it alone" and see how they get on.

I wish them every success, as they are nice people.
Thassos is a very quiet quaint island, and is one of the few unspoilt greek islands....go before the masses ruin it......

it seem to have remained so unspoilt owing to its geographic location.......
If you like a bit of a holiday "slightly off the beaten track" go for it.

I would stay at the coral again.....but I would advise some form of transport,as the hotel is slightly removed from other areas, although there are a few tavernas within walking distance .

The hotel pool bar was always a popular watering hole later on at night.....and we had several "for the road" each night before bed.

We arrived at The Coral, 9th Sept 2007, our first impression was a clean, well organised hotel. Although I had read that there were no coffee/tea making facilities in the rooms, I had emailed the Hotel before our trip enquiring whether we should pack a travel kettle, we had a prompt reply telling us not to pack this, one would be provided, which it was. The rooms are basic, but perfectly adequate for a two week stay, there was plenty of cupboard space in the room, there was a fridge (which was a bit noisy and had to be turned off during the night). The bathroom was clean, the balconies are spacious; with a clothes airer provided. Our room was cleaned every day except Saturdays, our sheets were changed every other day along with the towels. The Coral was the perfect place for a relaxing holiday, we didn't hire a car the first week and had many enjoyable walks to the lovely beach nearby and, of course the local Tavernas, who were all very hospitable, we didn't have one disappointing meal during our stay. I would certainly return.

  • Liked — The location, the views from the rooms
  • Disliked — The noisy fridge, the mattress was a little too hard, the bathroom tap dripped

The "Coral" hotel is positioned amongst an olive grove and being well away from the road is not troubled by any outside noise. It is very clean and all areas are kept in a good state. The rooms are small but are comfortable and have a refrigerater, hair dryer, TV and a small separate shower and toilet. The rooms are cleaned 6 days a week and the towels changed every day. All the rooms have a balcony with a table and chairs. There is provision for having breakfast [5 euros] and evening meal [7 euros] in the dining room. The staff are few but helpful with good english spoken at reception and the pool bar. The pool is clean and although not heated is nice to swim in. As most people went to the beach there were plenty of loungers and chairs. There were a few wasps around the pool, mosquitoes were not in evidence. The grounds were again kept in a good state. There is plenty of car parking space.
There is a large super market [for a Greek island] some 600ms away on the main road. There are around a dozen Tavernas within walking distance. Our favourites were "Gekas" for the evening meal[go befor 8 or after 9 as every evening it fills to capacity and many were turned away]. "Nukos" on the beach has wonderful views of the sea and served good value meals and drinks. The beach is sandy and sand castles can be made, the beach is clean and a tractor is used to harrow it. The water is full of little fish so must be OK. There is a bus stop on the main road [400mts away] but sometimes the bus does not stop and the timetable was a work of fiction. Taxis do not use their meters and it can cost from 10 to 15 euros to get into Thassos town. Car hire is a must if you wish to get to other beaches. Be warned that the "Golden Beach" is heavily populated with wasps. The island in general is typical of any Greek island and does have a problem with the locals tipping rubbish anywhere even though there is a place that they can take it to for processing. However most of the island in very pretty and green. There are crossings to the main land every half hour from Thassos town and there are other crossings at Skala Prinou. The trip from Kavalla airport to the "Coral" takes about 2 hours. There are a fair number of trips to go on and we bookes up for 5 with Thomson, unfortuneately 3 had their days changed for various reasons and with a "no refund policy" ,no apology, and a rep who was totally indifferent to our problems we were not happy and will be more careful in future not to book up all the trips at the start of the holidays. However this did not ruin the holiday and we would do it again.

First impressions were that this hotel needs a bit of TLC as it is a bit dated. The surrounding area is rural and peaceful, just what we wanted. You do need to explore the surrounding area because there are some great places to eat. If you want to go out in the evening then taxis are fairly cheap and the island is lovely and green and very pretty. Overall this hotel could be made into a gold mine, with some modernising plus some of the staff need to smile more particularly the man at the bar, who can put you off your beer with his lack of friendliness, such a shame because when he smiles he looks so much more approachable.I would go back to Thassos but not so sure about the Coral hotel, for a cheap get away its fine, its fairly basic and fairly clean, but the best thing about this hotel is its setting, peace and quiet with olive trees everywhere, so if you want peace and quiet and a nice little pool but no frills then the coral is ideal.

My husband and I visited my mum and dad who were staying at the Coral hotel for 2 weeks and we joined them for the second week. They loved every minute of it and so did we. We had an unfortunate first night, the room had previously had some heavy smokers in and they had had a couple of days of rain so the room wasn't aired and there was a strong smell of smoke for the first night. However by the second night and an air freshener the room was pleasent smelling.
The rooms are very basic and very Greek. The fridge really helped as we could store drinks and breakfast in the fridge. The balcony was very spacious and the staff were extremely friendly, my dad is disabled and the staff were very helpful, even supplying my dad with a second matress.
Panos and Panioto were very nice and made our stay very enjoyable, happy hour was an added bonus too...
The surroundings are beautiful and it feels like you are in the middle of no where, you can really shut off from the world.
We had a fantastic stay and would definetly go back... I had my Birthday out there and the staff made it extra special for me, with cake and champagne, I was very spoilt...
Thassos as an Island is one of the best places I have ever been to it is like a little piece of paradise, all in all a very relaxing holiday with amazing beaches...

  • Liked — The pool bar and swimming pool
  • Disliked — The shower had no wall bracket you have to hold it in your hand, all a bit complicated especially after a few drinks
