We stayed for 6 nights at this resort to participate in a conference at the venue. I was a little anxious after reading about this resort, built in the style of a Greek village, as I have had a bad experience with "themed" resorts in Turkey. However, this is very well done, and quite charming. We stayed in a village suite, overlooking the beach, and with a spacious bedroom and living area. Although the room was furnished simply, and had polished concrete floors, it was cool, light and comfortable and also had all mod cons - air conditioning, wall mounted TVs (we never turned them on) and a spacious bathroom, again decorated Greek village style. The hotel does have wifi internet access, but it is limited to the reception areas, and hotel bar. There was a cable outlet in the room but it did not seem to be functioning. There is a lovely village square, with a church, shops, taverna, and even a replica old communal laundry, which was very like the real thing we have seen in Italy.
Part of the resort is a refurbished multistorey hotel, and friends who stayed there said the rooms were very small for two people, but comfortable and with good views of the sea. We only ate lunch in the hotel, at the pool bar, and the simple snack food was fine. Otherwise we ate out at restaurants in nearby Pythagorio, which is about 10 minutes walk down the road, and very charming.
The conference facilities are housed in another "old style" complex near the village accomodation, but were of a very good standard. The lecture theatre was banked, had good AV facilities, and the seats were comfortable. There was a lovely courtyard for morning tea, and chatting.
The resort is right on the beach, which is a bit rocky for Australian tastes, but dotted with trees and sunbeds, so very pleasant. The water is clean and lovely to swim in, so we didn't use the pool, which looked fine if you like pools. You can also hire water craft, such as windsurfers and kayaks, from a private operator on the beach just in front of the hotel.
The hotel is five minutes from the airport, so although this is quite convenient, you do see spectacularly close views of aircraft from you window from time to time. The airport is not very busy, so this didn't really trouble us (but we do live under the flight path in Sydney, and are fairly immune to that sort of noise).
All in all we had a great week in this lovely spot.

I have travelled a lot through Greece, and Doryssa Bay is by far the best hotel/resort I've stayed in. The place consists of a regular multi-storey hotel building and a "village" of hotel rooms which look like houses from the outside, with not a single house looking like the other. Even without having seen the rooms in the main hotel building, I would definately recommend staying in the village. It is built with a lot of good taste and immense attention for detail, and is very well maintained. I enjoyed the comfort of the room and the atmosphere on the private terrace so much that I was even a bit reluctant to leave the hotel in the morning to go explore the country!

The interior of the rooms is modern and very well maintained. Beds are great: not too soft, not too hard, a selection of pillows, and perfect duvets for the climate. The aircon is very quiet and remarkably effective. Shower had good water pressure and very stable temperature. Internet and pay tv available in all rooms (extra charge).

Breakfast and dinner are served in a nice, light and roomy restaurant, which again is decorated with good taste. The breakfast was pretty much the same every day but dinner changed all the time, with approximately 12 dishes of meat, fish, and vegetables. The food was a combination of traditional Greek and more international dishes.

I really can't find any negative point about this hotel, except that the walk to the nearby town of Pythagorion is a bit long (10-15 minutes) and along a busy road so not the nicest of strolls. Guests with a rental car or scooter will not be bothered by this.

We had a wonderfully relaxing stay at this beautiful seaside resort. The rooms are luxurious and the grounds are lovely, including a pool with bar and restaurant, two large restaurants, a charming faux "village square," and lots of cats and kittens. It is near the airport but the 4-5 planes a day taking off didn't bother us. We enjoyed having drinks brought to us on the beautiful beach, and swimming in the lovely water. We ate breakfast and lunch at the hotel, and walked into town every evening for dinner to enjoy the good food and the waterfront. We rented a car one day to drive around the island and visit the museum and ancient sites.

First of all I will start with the good points about this hotel. We had booked a room in the main building and upgraded for around £50 extra for the week. The room number was 325 which is top floor with panoramic views over the pool and out to sea. The room was very nice and spacious with a flat screen TV and a huge bed. All of one wall was glass and I estimated this to be around 18 feet wide with the bed facing out and so you can lie in bed with a sea view. There is a bath and shower and a large oval stone wash basin. The doors into the bathroom and toilet are smoked glass. The usual shampoos etc are provided in the bath room. The room was cleaned to a high standard every day and on arrival fresh fruit was provided in the room. The room in fact was one of the high lights of the stay in this hotel. However we did visit the room of a couple that we met while staying there and this was completely different accommodation although in many ways the same as our room but without a bath or fruit it was a third of the size and on the front of the hotel overlooking the car park and didn’t get any sun at any time of the day. So please be careful because the rooms were worlds apart and I believe would make the stay here very different our room at an additional cost of around £50 was well worth the extra money. Other aspects of the hotel were not so good and mainly revolved around the restaurant. The waiters to be fair had no chance because as others have mentioned there were just not enough of them however again as others have mentioned you can be waiting 15 to 20 minutes to get a table to get a drink etc etc. The food on some evenings was unrecognisable and as soon as my wife saw things like veal tongue she said no I don’t think so and we went down to the harbour to eat. Breakfast time, there was fruit and cereal but the hot food choice was really not very good often with only scrambled eggs and frankfurters or you could be waiting for fried eggs again for up to 20 minutes and only once during the week did I find any bacon. It is the first place that we have ever visited where during the week we saw several arguments between the waiters and the holiday makers whom were almost all German. Normally a waiter will be polite and back off gracefully but not these guys. Prices in the restaurant in my opinion were excessive I don’t mind paying more in a hotel that’s just the way it is but the prices here are over the top. A bottle of samena gold white wine in the hotel is 22 Euros (£17 ) for a bottle and 12 Euros half bottle if you walk into town to a shop you can buy the same full bottle for 3.95 Euros (£3) and so an almost 6 times mark up is taking the proverbial. You need to be up early if you want a sun bed as most mornings they were reserved with towels from around 7.30 am. The towels require a deposit of 10 Euros each which is refundable when you leave. The room safe and air con is free. The walk into town isn’t very far at around 1km .6 mile so between 10 and 15 minutes. The town is pleasant enough with restaurants all along the harbour Elias at the end on the left was always busy and the food was nice and the cost around 25 Euros for two main courses with a litre of wine. This fact puts the prices of the hotel wine into perspective as the harbour front restaurants probably are charging a premium for the location. despite the fact that we were half board at the hotel we ate out 3 or four times and didn’t have a bad meal. As you walk into town from the hotel there is a small Taverna on the right only a few hundred meters from the hotel and to be fair from the road it doesn't look very inviting but once in side its actually quite nice the prices are reasonable and the food is freshly cooked and reasonably priced I had the Stiffado (Beef and onion casserole) a number of times here with crusty bread it very good. The weather wasn’t great with some rain and or cloud for three or four days and my wife needing to wear a cardigan on an evening. For people that are interested in archaeology well frankly its everywhere you look much of which has been built over I suspect. Over all not a bad place the airport being next door wasn’t a problem and there are no night flights so they don’t keep you awake. My preference between here and our previous Greek holiday would be Parga which is similar but in my opinion prettier than Samos

Stayed at the Doryssa in August, travelling with Thomson. Both flight and transfers were excellent. The hotel itself is very near the airport, but don't let that put you off as there are only a few flights a day and never at night and they really don't bother you. The hotel is split into two sections, the hotel bulding, which is about four floors high and the village, which is made up of bungalows. Our bungalow was actually above one of the little shops in the village, which was excellent as we had a superb view of the village square. Room itself was beautiful; comfortable four-post bed with egyptian cotton linen, flat screen tv, wooden ceiling beams, tiled floor. Bathroom was excellent, with a fixed shower over the bath and a "hand-held" shower as well (if you want a bath they are only available in village rooms, not in the hotel) and stone sink. Only quibble was that there was no tap to fill the bath (!), you have to use the shower, which is fine but a bit strange! Balcony was quite small but the view of the village square was lovely and a welcome change from the usual sea-view. Village restaurant was excellent, beautifully set out overlooking the beach and there were always plenty of tables, especially outside which made for a most romantic dining setting. Food was excellent with a superb choice. Drinks were fairly expensive (15 Euro for a bottle of wine, 4 Euros for a large beer etc.) but no more expensive than any other 4/5 * I have stayed in. The property is right on the beach, which was always clean and well maintained (the sea was crystal clear) and a bar service is available right to your sunbed (be warned however, this is 1 or 2 Euros more than regular bar prices). Only problem was people putting towels on sunbeds very early, sometimes the night before (!!!) and then not turning up to use them until mid-day! The hotel seemed to do nothing to stop this which was often annoying. That said, we always managed to get a sunbed. All in all a lovely holiday, with exceptional weather, the best in a Med resort that I have been to (be warned, if you don't like the heat, steer clear) with cloudless skies and loads of sunshine. Pithagorion itself has plenty of bars and restaurants, is beautiful at night and is an easy five minute walk from the Doryssa. Samos itself has loads to offer in the way of beaches and places of historical interest, so get out and about while you are there. All in all, an excellent holiday!
