“Much Better than Anticipated.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2010

We got back on 19th June 2010 after a two week stay at the Princess. We had stayed there in 1995 and 1997 when we had a smaller room with a small balcony which we had been happy in. This time we were given a family room - Number 42. There is a steep climb up the slope from the pool to the room which made me somewhat breathless at 71years of age, so I will request a lower one next time.
The set menu in the evening is an excellent deal at 15Euros per head, A three course meal with a choice of three for each course. Going to a taverner, you will get one main course at 7.5 to 10.5 Euros and a sweet course for 3.5 to 5.5 Euros, soup course similar to sweet.
Ok if you want the walk try the others, we has one particulary ropey experience.
Generally you will need 80 to 100 Euros per day for a couple. Prices generally are dearer than the UK. But that is before tomorrow's Emergency UK Budget.
The First Choice pictures of the hotel are the best and the hotel has inproved a lot since 1997. We will definitely go to the Princess again.

We stayed in a family room right at the back of the hotel It had 2 bedrooms and a huge bathroom. The staff were excellent and fussed over our children, they even brought toys for them to play with. Breakfasts were not as bad as previous reviews make out, and are typically Greek as served in most hotels in Greece.
We found the week there totally relaxing and couldn't fault anything. We stayed in Skala last year and visited the hotel . We were told to make ourselves at home and use the pool and facilities. A lovely hotel which I am sure we will visit again.

Kefalonia is a beautiful island.Very relaxed with a lot of history ,culture and beaches which are truly breathtaking. This was our first visit and we decided to stay at the Princess.
The main part of the Hotel(reception-restaurant-pool) is very smart.Could pass for a four star.It was very clean and spacious. We were quite impressed with it on arrival.
However, the rooms are situated in separate buildings to the rear. When we were shown to our room I was bitterly disappointed. We asked for another room but they said they were fully booked. The room was so small and we had no view at all.We were in room 3 which was convenient for the pool etc but it was like a cave. There were no windows ,only patio doors onto a little terrace. This would've been ok but it looked straight onto next door so there was no privacy. The decor and furnishing was poor.Very basic. On the other hand though, there was lots of storage, a fridge and a free safe.
We had ants in our bathroom which kept coming back on and off.The bathroom wasn't very comfortable but the shower was great with lots of hot water.
There was air conditioning which would only work with the doors closed-fair enough but it felt very enclosed then as there was no window. It's such a shame because with a little extra imagination the rooms could've been a lot more comfortable. They were cleaned everyday and lots of fresh towels too. They did offer us to move later on but we decided to stay put-the room grew on us a little!!
Breakfast was very enjoyable every morning. We had to ask for fruit though. The waitress was excellent -she arranged the most mouthwatering melon for us.She was actually the best member of staff there.I can't remember her name but she was from Kefalonia. The staff at the reception were a little unwelcoming.
If you have a late flight it is a real pain. They charge 50E for a late check out-no way ! There are toilets where you can change but no private shower rooms.A little more thought to make travellers more comfortable would've gone a long way.
There is a fantastic beach accross the road.6E for two sunbeds and umbrella.I would recommend a hire car as there is so much to explore. The roads are pretty straightforward.Assos is beautiful and so is Mirtos-about 1 hour by car.The Dragorati cave and Melissani lake is a must. Argostoli is the evening is fabulous.Lovely places to eat and wander. The Italian war museum is very moving-it's next to the Catholic Church. There is so much more to Kefalonia than beaches and sun.Explore the history and culture and it will leave an impression upon you.The Greeks are very welcoming and friendly-very similar to the Italians.
I will go back to Kefalonia one day but i will be staying probably in the Meditteranee Hotel.Lassi is a great place to explore from.
Beware though that it is expensive at the moment as the exchange rate is poor.I would advise to go half board not bed and breakfast.Don't leave Kefalonia without trying one of the Baklava cakes- a custard slice will never be the same !!

My family and I stayed at the Princess hotel from 19th August-2nd of September.

The princess hotel is lovely!
The pool is clean and well kept, and the pool staff are very friendly!
Our rooms were small but very clean, as the cleaners cleaned the rooms every day.

The nearest beach to the Princess is Makris Gialos Beach.
Most of the locals said it was the best beach in Kefalonia - we agreed!
The sand is soft and sandy, and the sea is very clear!
Their are plenty of sunbeds, so your sure to get one - it is 8 euros for 2sunbeds and an umbrella.

Their are lots of bars and tavernas in the main street of Lassi! All are lovely places to go and eat and have a drink but our favourite were;
-Da Veronicas (taverna)
-Panaroma (taverna)
-Veronicas (bar - directlly next to Da veronicas the taverna)
Our favourites were obviously because of the super food, but also because the people who worked their were lovely and very friendly!

Kefalonia is a beautiful island! I recommend anyone staying there to hire a car! We hired a car for 2 days, which was well worth it.
Our first day with the car, we went to Avithos Beach, which was nice, and very shallow for quite a way out!
The second day with the car, we went to visit Drogarati Cave and Melissani Cave (both in Sami) for the morning, which was interesting!
Then, for the afternoon we went to Mytros beach, which was fantastic! One of the best beaches in Kefalonia - an well worth going out of our way to visit! Although, the sea at mytros beach has very strong currents (not suitable for weaker swimmers.)

All in all, a superb 2week holiday, and I would definately go back to Kefalonia again, and would stay at the Princess Hotel in Lassi!

We arrived at the Princess Hotel expecting a room that could sleep 3 people. Our room was barely able to hold two adults. The bathroom door could not open fully as it would hit the toilet! The bed was a 4ft bed, so rather uncomfortable with two in it, as an added benefit, it squeaked at every movement. We complained and were told that we would not be able to move for two days because the hotel was full. We were promised a larger room in two days. After two days, we were moved to a room directly above ours, which had the same dimensions. Upon a further complaint, we were offered another room (this would be our 3rd) which was larger, but only had twin beds. There were no apologies offered. The breakfast is disgusting and consists of canned peaches, canned cherries, and some foul looking hot food. The lunch is very good, and the pool staff are lovely, but service is extremely slow as the hotel pool is not only open to hotel residents, but also to the residents of the selfcatering apartments next door. All in all, not a pleasant stay at all.

Ok, so I am biased because my roots are from Kefallonia, so I think it is a beautiful island, ideal for vacations no matter what you look for. It is great for families (I have a six year old), teenagers, naturalists, scuba and sea lovers...older people and younger people.

I also think that Lassi is a good place to stay, because of its easy access to the main town of Argostoli, its proximity to beautiful beaches you can walk to (Makris Gialos, Platis Gialos etc...), or even better Avythos (7 km away so you need a car), even though they do get crowded in August, lots of restaurants and cafes/bars without being overly developed and after all not in a city setting.

Princess Hotel is situated towards the edge of Lassi, very close to Makris Gialos, next to the main road but far enough not to be bothered by noise. The Hotel was built in the 90's and it consists of a main building where the reception and restaurant is, the pool and pool bar adjacent to the main building, and the rooms which are set like a two story apartment building. I am attaching pictures so you can get some better idea.

The room I stayed at had two single beds joined together to form a double, but I did see other rooms with actual double beds. I did not have a problem with the arrangemet as we had our six year old sleep in a cot in the same room...

I estimate that the size of the room was about 25 sq. meters (approx 250 sq. feet), including the bathroom which took up about 5 sq. meters. The room had a small balcony, barely big enough for two chairs and a small round table overlooking a lndscaped garden.

The room was air condtitioned with a split type of A/C which was barely adequate at 35+ degrees Celcius to keep the room comfortable. The beds where average in comfort but the furniture was lacking any character and it was more of a utalitarian nature. There was a small refrigerator in the room. The bathroom was modern and in good condition.

The pool area was very nice and my son thoroughly enjoyed it, but it is 75cm deep at the shallow part, and it has no separate area for toddlers.

The staff was helpful and courteous, no complaints there. The breakfast was quite good, American buffet style, the coffee was excellent, but the juices (Orange, grapefruit etc.) were not fresh and of mediocre quality.

Because the hotel is built on an incline there are a fair number of steps to climb if you are given a room far from the reception. In any case the hotel is not friendly to people with disabilities, for example no elavator to take you to the 2nd floor.

So why do I give the hotel an average grade? Well if you want to stay in a Hilton type of hotel this is not it. It is much smaller and other than the pool, not much to do. The rooms lack character, are basic in their furnishings. But everything is in working order, and the location is very good.

  • Liked — The location and the pool
  • Disliked — Furniture character and access to people with dissabilities

Well this was our 5th time at the Princess and it was brilliant as usual. Denise and the staff looked after us very well as usual. John the bar man was excellent and if you go ask him about the raw eggs......
Lassi its self was very quiet this year, as was Argostoli maybe something to do with the strength of the Euro.
As ive said before don't take my word for it , book it and find out yourself you will not be dissapointed with the Princess Hotel......

  • Liked — Always clean and tidy........
  • Disliked — Some noise from the road
