“Fantatstic place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2008

We stayed at the Hotel Irilena for 1 week on 15th July 2008, on arrival we were met by Irilena herself who couldnt have been more friendly, our room was on the second floor over looking the road, and yes the road is a little noisy but not at all un bearable, The room was kept spotless and cleaned every single day, rooms are basic but a good base, afterall if your anything like us your not really there much! There is a window looking into the shower that people can see into but we just covered it with a towel that was provided by the hotel so no probs with that either! After reading some of the other reviews I would disagree that this place is like a prison! its an ideal base for a great holiday, there is a swimming pool just opposite at the marieanna studios where there serve the best lunch time snacks and breakfasts and free sunbeds too! the beach is also fantastic, very clean with lovely clear waters, we hired a car for 7 days and went around the island, if you get a chance you must visit Myrtos beach its beautiful! well not much else to say except i hope you enjoy kefelonia and the Irilena hotel as much as we did!!

We had a great time at the irilena Hotel. I think it had been recently renovated and although it was fairly basic (to be expected of a 2 star), it was comfortable, clean, nice bathrooms and the owners (2 greek ladies) were very friendly. They had a nice bar which everyone from the hotel seemed to congregate in in the evenings (very relaxed). Breakfast was your basic continental which was fine for us. The only thing I would say is that the air con is an extra 40 euros. We managed without this in June which was fine but the heat may have been too much later in the season.

We were just across the rode from the beautiful beaches and 50 m from another hotel where we could use the pool. There are soem nice restaurants along the main street in Lassi and I would recommend the panoramic restaurant for the sunset view.

I will be going back and would recommend it to anyone who wanted a simple, laid back holiday. Others have complained about the noise from the road. We asked for a room at the back which was granted and we didnt notice any road noise.

What can I say about the Irilena Hotel in Kefalonia in the resort of Lassie! We arrived at the hotel and were told on arriving at the reception that it was 30 euros for a safety deposit box and an extra 65 euros for air conditioning. So they had taken off us £67 before we even entered our room. Our room was on the second floor over looking the busiest road in Kefalonia. When we saw how small our room
was, we were desperate to move somewhere else. The room consisted of two single bed squeezed into a tiny room with a wardrobe in the corner, chest of draws and bedside table. The smallest and oldest looking fridge was sat in the corner feeling sorry for itself. You could only fit in one bottle of water and that’s about it. Also there
was a balcony looking onto the road.

The road is literally a metre from outside the hotel. You can hear every car that goes past and many Greeks seem to think it funny to beep their horns every minute of the day. We had to keep our patio door shut most of the time to keep out the noise of the traffic. It felt like we were in prison for two weeks.

In the brochure it says that there is a kettle available. I’m sorry to tell you that the only facilities within the room are the fridge, hair dryer and air con. No TV! The only TV is down stairs in the bar/
breakfast area. We never usually need TV on holiday, but we could have done with it here.

The funniest thing is the small window in the shower cubicle that looks onto the corridor. So whenever anyone goes past and wants to take a look as you showering, there is nothing you can do about it. I don’t know how the hotel was plumbed up, but what a smell came from
the bathroom. There was a sewage smell coming from the drain and the sink!

The walls were so thin in the hotel that we could hear next door flicking their light switch on and off. It was a very noisy hotel, you could hear people getting up in a morning and coming back in an evening.

The following morning at the welcome meeting we were not the only people complaining about the location of the hotel to the main road outside. Many people had paid extra to have an inland view, the other
side of the hotel (away from the road). The rep gave those guests some rubbish about how in Greece in land view doest mean anything and
that you can be put anywhere in the hotel. Everyone in the hotel we meet, said the same thing that they were unable to get to sleep due to the road noise.

Then we had the delight of having breakfast!!. The rep never told us what time breakfast was served, but we managed to work out that it was between 9 and 10.30am and what a banquet that was- NOT. You have never seen such a load of rubbish served for breakfast in all you life.

A tray full of hard-boiled eggs (approx 25)
Round bread rolls
Jam apricot or strawberry
Cheese spread
Small pieces of cheap meat
2 types or cereal

And you think there may be some entertainment at the hotel, well you will be sadly mistaken. You cannot buy any meals, snacks nothing. The
bar and TV area shuts at about 12 and reopens at about 5pm. We obviously asked the rep if we could move hotel. We were told 3 days later that we could move to another hotel, but if would cost is £200 extra. We couldn’t afford that so we had to stay in the Irilena hotel
for 2 weeks.

Lassi resort

What they don’t say in the brochure is that Lassi is a man made resort, which means they built a tar mac road and built houses, hotels, supermarkets and restaurants along it. It is not picturesque at all. The beaches are beautiful, that is the only good thing about kefalonia. The waters are crystal clear and very clean. But if you are wanting nightlife or culture you have come to the wrong place. We decided to stay in Lassi as it said in the brochure it was near Argostoli, which is the main town in kefalonia. The first day we walked there thinking it was 20 minutes to get there. Well it took 35 minutes up a large hill. There isn’t much to do in Lassi and not a lot to do in Argostoli. It is a very quiet island. The shops in town never seem to be open as well, so we gave up in the end hoping that they would. We had a meal one night in the square in Argostoli,.
The square is where all the locals take their children and let them run loose. We were having a meal while some children were playing football. Needless to say the ball hit me on the head and nearly missed my boyfriends head. That put me off eating in the square after
that. We had to keep dodging balls during our whole meal. The proprietor if the restaurant didn’t care at all.

We hired a car which cost us 120 euros for 4 days with full insurance. We went all over the island. We went to Skala. If you are staying in Skala, I feel so sorry for you. There is nothing there at all, apart from a beach and a handful of restaurants and tacky shops.

Needless to say I we will never be going back to the Irilena Hotel and not back to Kefalonia.

I hope you have a better time than what we did. I need a rest to get over my 2 week holiday.
