“Fourth visit to Dionysos @ we will be back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

We returned from our fourth visit to Dionysos yesterday and I'm missing it already. A lovely place to visit, the only drawback is the proximity to the sometimes busy road. I have read the poor reviews about Dimitri the owner - so untrue! He is an elderly man, a bit gruff but that's his way. This is a self-catering accommodation and therefore, in my view, visitors have a level of responsibility to keep their own apartment tidy. A brush and dustpan would be helpful for light sweeping up (no big deal) as we all carry sand,a dust in on our feet. Anna does a good job but the balconies could use mopping each day as there are a lot of small ants about. Bar staff are lovely, especially Anna who always has a smile on her face. We didn't go to the BBQ or pasta night, by choice. There was absolutely no pressure to do so! The food served at the bar is basic - it promises nothing more as it 's not a restaurant! We arrived late at night to a warm welcome from Melinda and Thomas. We got keys & safe deposit key - no pressure to pay right away, that could wait. Cookie stayed to provide us with a much needed snack after a long day travelling - thank you Cookie! Staff could not be more helpful. In my view, holidays are about choice - no-one has to do anything they don't chose to do. All in all, we had a lovely holiday and hope to visit again. Thanks to all at the Dionysos for helping to make our holiday great!

Room Tip: Rooms with a pool view are best.

arrived to a very warm welcome from Thomas who took us to our apartment no 64 . The one bedroomed apartment was lovely and spotlessly clean , our terrace was big and was the last one to sit on before the sunset. The hospitality was excellent from beginning to end . We attended the bbq evening which was excellent 15 euros per person , food was plentiful and free wine for 3 hours !! , also the apartments have a free pasta night on a wednesday !! fab ! as it was early in the season we played crazy bingo and had fun with fellow guests. A 15 miniute walk will take you to the centre of stalis where there are some lovely restaurants and shops . A big thank you to Thomas, Anna,Melinda and of course little Ant the thomas cook rep who was so helpful, not forgetting Cookie who makes anything you want to eat for you yum yum! I would have no hesition in recommending Dionysos.

We have been back from the Dionysos for one day, and are happy to report what a lovely time we had. The apartment was clean and the cleaner was there every day on her own, and was very friendly, as were all the staff. They were always on hand with tips, and advise. We really enjoyed ourselves. We met some great people too. Which made the holiday more enjoyable. The location is suberb. It is near a busy road, but we didnt notice any noise with cars, so dont fret. We took part in the sunday BBQ they do, which is nice. And the pasta evening on wednesday. We were impressed wih it all. Anna greeted us warm and friendly, she took us to our apartment and gave us relevent information that we needed, ie the cost of air con and safe hire etc. We found The pool clean. Demitri and his wife were very kind and friendly. I cant understand the bad press ive read on here about him! Me and my husband have said if we return to Crete, we already know where we'll be staying. I think for me, the only thing i struggled with was the bed, which i appreciate is a personal thing, but i like a soft mattress and found theres hard! Now, if thats my only complaint then ive got no worries have i?

My friend and i have just spent a week at Dionysos. What a lovely place. Could have easily stopped for two weeks. We had a lovely welcome from Thomas who showed us to our apartment and explained about everything that was available to us. The apartment was ideal. Nice clean and spacious, with everything you needed. The pool area was exellant, clean and relaxing, the bar close by and food if you fancied it. What more could you ask for. All the staff at Dionysos are friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Our rooms were cleaned regularly and it was nice to see the owner Dimetri there coming round and welcoming everyone and having a friendly chat. What a lovely man. Big thanks to Cookie for some excellant breakfasts, just the job to set you up for the day. A big thank you to Thomas and Anna for an excellant stay and for looking after us so well. You made it very difficult for us to drag ourselves away from the bar as we had such a great laugh and were just enjoying ourselves so much. A lovely couple that make you feel very welcome and at home.
It was my first time abroad in 8 years and i am so glad we chose to stay at Dionysos. A Lovely Friendly Clean Comfortable and Enjoyable Holiday. Will definately be returning. Thanks all. xx

I stayed here for 2 weeks in 2010 from 24th August. On arrival we were told that we had to stay in some apartments across the road which where located in a lane on the other side of the main road so every morning we had to walk over to the hotel to use the pool which was ok but annoying if you needed anything from your room. The apartments had no air conditioning unless you paid 50 euro a week. Other than that the hotel was really nice and right by the bust stop which is convenient if you want to go to other towns and the buses are very cheap. The staff were nice and friendly. The food was ok same as all places in Crete plenty of English food. We didn't go to any BBQ nights because well we weren't told about them as we were staying over the road. Stalis is a lovely town, busy and plenty of nightlife but not as wild as next door towns malia and hersonissoss. We had a cheap deal for this hotel for a 2 week stay and we had a really good time.

Hey ignore all the bad press, we were the last to leave and had a lovely time. Cookie, anna, Thomas cant do enough for you. As for Dimetri he was lovely( and remember hes an old Greek guy) was always pottering around trying to be helpfull.. can i just say if you have booked to stay here then relax you will have a great time.. Rooms are clean... Service at the bar 1st class... its very central to everything.. food good..... beach is only a short walk as are restaurants... taxi,s are cheap.... if there are any short comings then blame your tour operators not the staff at dionysos.

Room Tip: All rooms are good

We stayed for 2 weeks and i regret this bitterly: time and money in today's recession is hard to come by, so you can use these and have a lovey time anywhere else in Stalis but Dionysos!!!
Three main problems to face if you choose this apartments:
1) Bully owner (Demerti), who is out of order from the moment you step on his grounds:
He bullies you into eating on the premises, on pretense that the pasta night is free but in fact, you spend much more during the evening than if you went out - there are so many nice authentic restaurants where you can eat better food for less!
Then he bullies you into taking a safe at ridiculous price by suggesting it might not be safe not to have one - makes you think if you don't pay him he will make sure something will happen while you are out and about. If doors and windows are securely locked, which they are, the only way the burglar can get into your room is to use the key - so you know who has the additional one and who you can blame! He charges a good price for this as well as for the air con (10 Euros a night! which is steep indeed!).
Besides, he is unpleasant, shuffles around you all day long and makes life pretty unpleasant, so you want to go to the beach instead - which is better in any case and this confirms my earlier suggestion - better to find a better hotel and use all the village can offer - beaches, restaurants, local shops that at the end help local economy more.
2) Cleanliness: one of the reviews mentioned earlier about the cleaning lady Anna. She keeps busy all day but the quality of work she does is very poor (perhaps she has a lot to do). Rooms are not cleaned for 4-5 days, bathrooms are downright filthy, toilet rolls are at short supply (thanks God the corner shop is not far away as you need to buy toilet roll, toiletries, wash up liquid etc). Balcony was a nice addition to the room, but this area she never cleans and the ant infestation is a sightly picture! There are no any basics in the apartment - no one wants to cook much on holiday, but simple things like salt or couple of tea bags would be invaluable until you discover where to go for these.
3) Staff at the bar:is very inflexible, patronizing and with one motto - hard sell!

Never again we will go with Thomas Cook. There are so many companies that offer good holidays - you should make your money work for you, not for T/Cook or Demetri the Bully!
I must admit - Thomas Cook knows that the man is a liability but for whatever reason they are not doing anything - this is against the motto of a respectable and reliable company.

Room Tip: Don't go there if you want a nice holiday
