“half board in a no no”

Anastasia Hotel

Just spent a week at this hotel. The hotel was lovely, the rooms and the grounds were immaculate. The staff were so friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was your standard breakfast and there was a good selection but for us the let down was the dinner in the evenings. the salads and soups were very good but the main courses were not great. Everything was quite tasteless and did not look appealing. It was your standard buffet presentation and even though we were booked half board we ate out four of the seven nights. i would stay in this hotel again as we loved the hotel itself but half board was a waste of money in my opinion.

we are just back from a week's stay at the anastasia. what can i say, the hotel itself is extreemly freindly, great staff, nothing too much trouble. The room we had was o.k ,we did have a problem with the air conditioning,we reported it ,the maintainance man was there to fix it within 5 mins, fixed it ,but the temperature on the remote controle is pre set to 16 c, too hot. I,m sure had we complained they would have fixed it. There is a fridge and t.v (only one english channel-bbc world) in the room , our bathroom was a bit dated and the water would suddenly run hot and cold whilst in the shower. food was very good and plenty of it. stalis and the beach is a good ten minute walk (via a short cut through the hotel kyknos) the town itself has no pavement and there are quad bikes flying around the place, when you walk in town in the evening there are people constantly stood out on the street trying to get you to go in and eat in their restaurant. If you take children keep a hold of their hand whilst walking about, i;m not joking about the quad bikes, anyone can hire them. Be careful in the souveneer shops, they sell magazines and d.v.d's & toys of an adult natue with totally GRAPHIC pictures on the cover. The town of MALIA is about a 15 min walk from the anastasia and is a NO GO area after dark unless 18-30, all clubs ,bars, etc. I know this sounds like a really negative review, however to sum up---- -- the hotel is a small well run hotel with good food and freindly staff, we actually had a great time, but you deserve honest reviews. P.S. HERAKLION AIRPORT is very small and basic, dont buy any food or drinks at the airport (3.20 euro for a coke) HOWEVER if you go upstairs in the duty free shop you can buy cheap biscuites and chocolate cheaply, there is a fridge in duty free and an ice cold can of sprite or cok is only 70 cent.

This was our 6th stay at the Anastasia, over a period of about 8 years, & all I can say is that this hotel just gets better & better. We travel frequently & this is the only hotel we consistently return to. Although it is a 3.5* hotel, I have stayed in many 5* hotels which aren't a patch on this. Of course you don't get the 5* 'frills' such as turn down or room service - but so what!! What this hotel does is the fundemental things extremely well:-

Rooms - Rooms are spotlessly clean, comfortable, effective air-con, good fridge, balconies, TV. Cleaned daily.

Food - the restaurant has a really relaxed feel - you can eat inside or outside by the pool. Breakfast was fantastic this year - every day: bacon, english sausages, beans, toms, potatoes, 3 types of eggs, fruit, greek yogurt, cheese, meats, bread, rolls, cake, coffee, selection of teas, hot choc, juices etc etc. Dinner was also wonderful (we ate in every evening), always a soup & pasta dish, good selection for kids, some Greek specialities, large range of salads. I defy anyone not to find something they like

Hotel - The hotel has about 70 rooms & there was a 2nd pool opened this year. This has resulted in the pool areas being much quieter. You could find sunbeds & brollies at any time of the day. It is a short stroll to the beach (about 10 mins) & about 5 mins to a selection of tavernas, shops etc.

Entertainment - My kids are too old for the club now, but Jon the kids entertainer seemed to be fab - he was like the Pied Piper! We used to walk into town in the evening, but there was always some form of entertainment: quiz night, Bingo, Karaoke etc

Staff - it is the staff at this hotel that make it. Many have been there for several years & they are delightful. Nothing is too much trouble for them.

I understand this hotel won the Thomas Cook best hotel in Greece award last year. Well deserved in my opinion & it would be hard to find a more relaxing hotel anywhere. Please try it for yourself.

Just spent a fortnight at the Anastasia, what a wonderful hotel. The staff were first class, nothing was to much trouble for them and they would go out of their way to help you.
The room setting is fantastic, being either single or two story accommodation, every one with a view either of the sea or mountains. The rooms had adequate facilities including a refrigerator and air conditioning, which was most welcome in the heat (30s) most days. It was a pleasure to eat both breakfast and dinner outside under the verandas. The food is a buffet menu with plenty of variety both for breakfast and dinner, the tendency being to over eat for the first couple of days because you want to try everything. The bars and restaurants are all with easy walking distance even for those a little unsteady on their feet ( I mean us old un's. not those with who had to much Raki )
For a pleasant day out take the local Noddy Train (five mins walk from Alexandria) on a trip up into the mountains to the village of KRASSI. Fantastic views, but beware of the locals, all they want to do is share their Raki with you. Its made in the village.(3 Euros a bottle, it will blow your brains out if your not careful) TIP for the Noddy train get the back seat.

This is a great hotel and I personally couldn't find anything to complain about during my stay. It's clean, good value for money, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and quiet yet close to everything you need (e.g. nightlife, restaurants etc). The food was average but there was always a large selection in the buffet so it was nearly impossible not to find something you liked. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.
