“We'll be back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2007

From the very beginning the cleanliness of the hotel struck us. We experienced nothing but helpfulness and courtesy from the staff right the way from management to cleaning ladies.
Our room was very clean and comfortable with TV, fridge, air conditioning all included, and the safety deposit box in the room.
Meal times were sensible allowing early risers to eat before going out for the day, and people on days out to get a good meal when they came back at night.
As for the food - we have never eaten as well in any hotel anywhere. The buffet food was not only well cooked and well presented, but there was a good variety on offer every day. Table service was excellent.
The pool was also well looked after and anyone wanting a dip in the "big pond" could take a short walk to the sandy beech. Shops and restaurants were all within easy walking distance of the hotel.
We will be back there soon as there were so many things around Crete that we didn't get time to see or do.

this hotel is very over rated. We had expected a twin room.. Were given a double just outside the the blaring karaoke bar . Sheets did not fit the bed. The food was mediocre at best and lastly the staff were generally unhelpful...it is not my problem. I would definitely not recommend this hotel...There are many others close by and it should not be aproblem to find something close by.

Was a bit overwhelmed and suspicious of all the positive reviews on this hotel. Well, it was all true: it is a very decent one, outstanding value for money. Our accommodation was better than 'standard' at a nearby "4*+" hotel, and if the hotel had been on the sea it would have been classed as 4* (it is 5 min walk to the beach so not too bad). Food is better than you'd expect at a 3* and good variety - we could still eat there after 2 weeks. Good service. Location is quite convinient for both Herosonissos, the main and very pleasant resort there (3 km), Stalis (1km) and Malia (1km) - all easily accessable with a scooter/4x4 which are inexpensive to rent. If you want a car, it is advisable to rent online at the airport - will work out 1/2 the price.
Nothing to fault the hotel for really - unless you are paying at least 50% more, you are unlikely to find better.
PS If you are over 25, stay away from Malia - it is indeed as unpleasant as described. Herosonissos offers a great choice of both good restaurants, bars and discos so if you want to have quality fun time go there.

First time we have been in Crete and this hotel.
We were a bit nervous before booking the hotel as it was only a small hotel and just 3 star but after reading the reveiws on your site (and others) we were happy that it should be a good experiance.

Firstly you must be aware that Malia and Stallis are 2 villages that have expanded so much that there really is just 1 big road of bars and restaurants. It is overun with 18 to 30s who make it noisy and toooo boisterous for a quiet family in the late evening and during the day they all tear around on quad bikes. There arent many pavements so this is more dangerous than it sounds.

Secondly the hotel is on the wrong side of the road really and you will need to walk every where for entertainment , drinks, food, beach etc unless you are content in the hotel. There are hardly any pavements and the cars, trucks, quad bikes and coaches get very close. When its hot this walk is uncomfortable. While we were away ,in the shade it was 40 degrees, in full sun it hit 60 degrees.

The Hotel is very clean and all the staff are very friendly.
I personnally wouldnt recommend John the kids entertainer for younger children as they are not signed out and there is just John however many kids there might be. My 4 year old regularly popped back to see me. She is good with directions and we were only by the pool, but the hotel is just next to a major road etc etc .He is a lovely fella though and the kids adore him.

The pool can get very noisy and crowded at peak times and if the hotel is full youll need to get a towel on a bed round the pool early if thats where you want to be. There is a garden where you can longe instead but its not by the pool. Supposed to be a new pool built next year?

At Breakfast food is fine but at dinner its a bit less appetising especially the 2nd week. Loads of salad stuff but generally the same things out. With hot food there was always spaggetti and sauce and chips and potatoes. But the greek food they served up didnt look or taste as nice as the food in the local tavernas. All edible and ok but should have been better.

I did wonder when I got there why people had been coming back year after year. Yes its a nice hotel but its only ok. Turns out after chatting to lots of fellow guests that lots of them had made friends with people and each year met up at the hotel. Also in other years the food was better and the problem with the pool didnt arise as the hotel was smaller then. Last year another 6 blocks of apartments were added, so no wonder its more crowded.

We read reviews on a of places in Crete before we went and the Anastasia was one of the only consistantly highly regarded ones that we found. It literally scored ten out of ten in about nine of out of ten reviews.

A fair summary would be:
Accomodation - very nice room with two singles and one double bed (between three of us) maid service every day - plainly painted but nice and clean. Good shower and bath ([plenty of hot water) Reasonably sized balcony

Food - the only very slight reservation was that the food was a bit repetative and when they tried to cook non-greek things they turned out a 'little peculiar' to say the least on occasions. But it was a bit of an adventure (Greek-Chinese dishes?) but a good selection for all sorts of tastes. Excellent breakfast choice (hence the reason that yours truly is now a bit more of a fat boy than when we went).
Location - near the main road but far enough back not to be too intrusive. Short walk away from restaurants, bars and beaches if you want them.

Hotel Staff - the real clincher for us, the service was excellent, the staff (from the two bosses down) could not do enough for you, nothing was too much of a problem and we were very impressed. They were not too cringy, just the right level of attention, and it did feel as though they were very genuine and nice people, not just chasing tips.

Activities - good range of activities every night if you wanted to join in.

Overall - well worth going to and a good base to explore this rugged and beautiful island if you want to (we hired a car for four days) So if you like the sound of Crete then you could do much worse than giving the Anasatasia a go. We are fairly fussy but we had a good holiday they definately did not let us down.
