well what can I say this place is top draw, I have been coming to this place since 1993/4 and I have been back every year, the family are great and the place is fantastic, I am going back again in June 2014 for the world cup, the Slainte bar is a great place to booze with great people who know George's family so home from home, hope to see old friends again

went to la luna 7 times and loved it. the family are fantastic. So friendly and Thoxis behind the bar is the best. Not been to la luna for about 4 years, it is a great friendly place to be. Thinking about coming back early september and seeing old friends.

This was our time to Stalis but our first to La Luna.We loved it so much that we booked as we were leaving for next year !
They honestly treat you like a family member. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. The family and staff are thoughtful and non intrusive so you can join in as much or as little as you wish . The pool area was lovely and we always got a bed. The home cooked food was very reasonabley priced and delicious. The number of friends we made whilst staying is indicative of the type of guests they have, all so welcoming. Lots of people are return guests and I can see just why ! I can't wait until next year to see Eleni,George,Thoxis and the rest of the guys xxx

just returned from 2 week holiday at these apts,.. we had friends living in other apts and were often out during the day & night , but when we were in the complex, the hospitality was very good.. it was plain to see that this hotel was full of return visitors..I counted a group of around 19 kids & adults at one time.. all seemed to be having a great time.. would I return to this hotel ?.. No... not even to crete... The airport is a shambles , I can do without this hassle and go elsewhere.

Stayed with family inc 3 teenage boys. Booked two rooms, and request for them to be next to each other was met. Unfortunately the hotel has no lift and we were on i think what could be classed as third floor, either way it was 60 steps from the rooms to reception!
Not a problem for the young and mobile but no fun lugging cases up and down or if you wanted to 'nip' quickly back to the apartment for something. Although Thoxis was most helpful with the cases on arrival.
A side pool/seaview from each room and the rear room had at first glance the view of a bit of waste land. However on closer inspection this was the arid lower reaches of the volcanic hills. The Immediate landscape being criss crossed in trails of some description. it was only after a day or two did we realise that the trails were made by the mountain goats that came down from the hills each the evening. which was rather quaint.
Rooms were very basic but this seems to be Greek standard for this type of accommodation. No microwave or toaster; a kettle, good fridge and one electric hotplate. Yes i'm on holiday and not cooking a full Sunday roast but i do like a bit of toast in the morning! the one bathroom was quite dingy no natural light and again as seems a Greek penchant no shower curtain so hence bathroom floor constantly wet. Some fittings such as the toilet brush and the bin hand seen very much better days but i hasten to add everywhere and everything was scrupulously clean. furnishings in the bedrooms and living areas were spartan but adequate. Apart from no black out or heavy curtains just net. Much as i love the sun i do not wish to be disturbed by it blaring through windows at sunrise on holiday. I am a night shift worker and accustomed to sleeping in daylight hours but this was bothersome. Especially as the window of one bedroom was right on the balcony of the adjacent apartment. not a problem for us as the boys were in this one but i wouldn't be happy for strangers to physically be able to poke their heads into my bedroom from their balcony. pillows were small and lumpy and over sleep quality was not good.
Rooms were cleaned and tidied everyday apart from Sunday. It was nice to come back in the afternoon and see breakfast things washed up and beds made. Towels changed once and no bed lined change.
My biggest gripe is the position of La Luna. It is on the main Heraklion to Malia road
.Although separated by a service road the constant drone and whine of quad bikes and mopeds is incessant. Sleeping with the windows open is a no no as its like trying to sleep on the M6! even after several glasses of Raki! so we gave in - closed the windows and got AC at 5 EUROS a day which i didn't object to but what did irk me was it was 5 e per unit - our apt had two AC units!
Regulars have said it's only 5 mins to the beach - this was not our experience at at all. Infact it could take 5 mins to cross a very dangerous and extremely bust main road with coaches and lorries thundering past. i understand that there are tunnels to cross under the road but the only one we found u had to be a hobbit to use it. i would say approx 1km to the beach about 10-12 min walk.
Nice beach and for the price of a drink you can have a couple of sunbeds, showers, toilet facilities and wifi at the many bars on the strip. Several supermarkets in the vicinity and an abundance of bars and restaurants.Public transport was good. We found Maria's, and Tusouvlaki excellent and Akti nice enough. Don't forget the local specialty a Gyros!

The people at La Luna are very friendly and welcoming and Thoxis goes out of his way to learn everyone's names and always address then as such. The man is a living legend! Although i have to say a glitch with paperwork on our arrival at 2am after being already dropped at the wrong hotel ( nothing i hasten to add to do with la luna) could have been handled better but no fuss was made and all' s wells that ends well.
We had lunch most days at the hotel - and Elani's cooking is tasty and wholesome - her chips not to be missed!. Prices are reasonable. Complementary fruit was always proffered and was to pick the pomegranates growing in abundance around the pool.
The pool area is clean and safe - never any problem getting sunbeds and there are communal lilos and suncreams. The pool area is the focus for the Sunday night BBQ - which is not to be missed.
Overall a most enjoyable holiday at La Luna - but i think why people rave about it is the company and friends and memories they make. as we were a compact family group we didn't really interact with other guests that much and on that point i can't say 'im feeling the love for La Luna' like other guests. but if you want somewhere albeit basic but clean, tidy, relaxed accommodating and friendly then this is the place for you. Yamas xx
