I was somewhat apprehensive about the Niko Elen Hotel as there were no reviews on Trip Adviser for this hotel and after reading similar reviews in 3/4 star hotels I had a good idea what to expect. Maybe it's struggling to be the 3 star as advertised....I think a 2 star is more it's calibre.
My wife and I and 10 Y/O daughter booked 7 nights at this hotel on a last minute decision and we were glad we did. The location is perfect, beautiful beach was 80mtrs with many restaurants and bars to choose from and their pool is fantastic.Stalida was better than Malia or Hersonissos and prices were cheaper for touristy things.
Our room was a good size and nicely located with a pool view.
The beds were not the best but after a full day sightseeing we would have slept anywhere. Plenty of hot water but no coffee or tea making facilities. Airconditioning is an extra 6 euros a day....but it's standard for Crete.
Breakfast was crap but was included in the room rate.1 meat 1 cheese bread hard boiled eggs and watermelon and coffee and corn flakes. We were not too concerned about breakfast as we were still full from dinner the night before. A full english breakfast can be bought anywhere for about 3 euros.
TIPS: You will need a hire car to see the island....the roads are good with much to see. Car hire companies are everywhere and will deliver to your hotel. We paid 100 eu for 5 days all inclusive.
The managers of this hotel were very good and made sure everything was as we wished.
Eat where the English eat. All the pizza places are very good quality and value. One especially nice restaurant was Mama Mia's but we never had a bad meal anywhere.
All in all........Im very glad we had such a great location so close to a beautiful beach but not in the noisy areas of Hersonissos or Malia. There are many beautiful villages in the mountains with nice cafes and Sitia was especially nice. The caves are well worth the drive but be aware that not many signs are in english when off the main roads.
We loved Crete and had a great time, perfect weather, great food, warm ocean and much to see.
Apart from breakfast this hotel is very good value.
Maybe one day they could put a cold drink and coffee machine in the foyer.
We would return to this hotel but we don't go to the same place twice.
Thankyou for the wonderful stay.
