“The exhibition, a complete guide to oyster growing and preparing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 30, 2012

Very easy to find in Tremblade on the River Seudre, the exhibition of oyster growing with all it's complcated stages, preparation for sale, and advice on how they should be served, and with what.
It is a very comprehensive coverage, and well worth a visit.
The exhibition regularly welcomes school parties, and groups of holiday makers.
Although I am a senior citizen, I found the hands-on activities very interesting, including your own chance to wash out the oyster beds with your own personal power hose.

“Outstanding”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2012

If you always wanted to try and to know about oysters, this is the place for you. Wellorganized, English spoken, and 2 miles further up the road, the BEST oysters I have ever had. restaurant is at the very end of the road, called Becine. elegant service, phenomenal views, make a reservation if you can.
If weather is good and you are adventurous, rent a bike at La Cite and ride the 2 miles to the restaurant.

“Nice to learn about oysters”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

We are a family of two adults and two teens. We visited on a Sunday in July 2011.
The place has a really bad website lacking key information such as address that works in the GPS. There are signs once you get to the city of Marennes, so it is easy to find.

When we got there we got bikes included in the entrance fee. This worked out good for us. Entrance was €32. We stayed about five hours total, including lunch.

We have never opened or tasted oysters before. The instruction and tasting of was nice. To me they tasted most of all salt water, but I liked the experience. The information huts about oysters and farming were good and information was also provided in English. The guided tour was only in French.
We had lunch in the cafe and that was OK food at normal prices.
In all a nice day and we did learn a lot about oysters.

“Marennes was a highlight of our bike trip!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2012

Marennes is one of those towns that always gets overlooked by tourists busy rushing to a bigger town somewhere. How unfortunate. Marennes is exactly the kind of town that helps you feel the essence of France. The people are warm, charming and welcoming, and definitely interested in speaking with any Americans who might be visiting their town. We spent time talking with a wonderful group of young students, amazed to see two Americans bicycling through the French countryside. You can read more about my impressions of Marennes at:

3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2012

I love oysters and this is ground zero for world oysters the cite D'huitres is the main tourist attraction in marennes so if you go you will want to go here it costs 9 euros and you get a free hire bike and 2 oysters good value however the huts are sadly lacking in much hard information although with very good english translation the cafe is good value for lunch but service ( friendly) very slow
