“an excellent start to a french adventure”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2012

we chose the chateau off the internet and decided to spend our first night in France, fresh off the ferry, on our way to the south. it is very handily placed less than an hour from Calais and close to the main roads, but in a quiet village. an imposing but welcoming building, recently renovated by Francis and family matched by the welcome from Francis, with whom we had a most enjoyable and friendly email exchange in both english and french before we decided to stay.

the room was more like an apartment, well equipped and spacious. the breakfast was sumptuous and beautifully served in elegant surroundings. our attentive host was just what we needed, on hand but not pushy. we'll be back! note to be found in 'gites de france' as are other chateaus of similar standard

Everything is just first class - a fantastic way to start or end a trip in France
Recently refurbished to a very high standard, food plentiful and very good
breakfast more than you can eat and the optional evening meal is a must
It is better in every way than say the Holiday Inn in Folkestone, so it is a 'no brainer' to repeat this experience
Just off the A26

Room Tip: no need, they are all as good as one another

It never ceases to amaze me what a difference 25 miles of English Channel can make to attitudes, ambiance and my spirit!. Drive for less than an hour from Calais and you are in a different world. My wife and I never tire of searching out good places to stay in Pas de Calais and Normandy for a short break. We live in the south-east of the UK and can be on Dover docks in just over an hour.
Last week we discovered a real treat. It took father Francis, mother and son Cedric around 18 months to completely renovate their Chateau near to the small town of Aire-Sur-La-lys. Modern amenities such as double glazing and efficient plumbing (!) have been combined with the sympathetic restoration of each of the 5 huge bedrooms and the rest of the house. Attention to detail such as expensive flock wallpaper, chandeliers and antique furniture completes the atmosphere.

Francis is, we were told, an ex-restaurant owner and does the superb catering whilst Cedric does "front of house" and waiting duties. Mum works behind the scenes at housekeeping. Our comfortable room measured an amazing 7 metres by 7 metres! It had a separate toilet and large modern bathroom with a very efficient shower.

Breakfast was great with fresh bread and pastries delivered early each morning by the local baker. For less than 30 Euros you can have a 5 course evening meal which is cooked beautifully by Francis from local produce. Wine is sold at reasonable prices if you want it.

The welcome you get and the constant "service with a smile" makes this a very special place to stay.

Room Tip: All of the 5 guest bedrooms are spacious and comfortable.

This is a very small chateau in a quaint village about 40 minuties outside a Callias. It is wonderful and we highly recommend it. The rooms are large and tipicially french, we had the "Gold room" which was light and bright with an amazing bathroom. There was tea and coffee to hand and a really modern bathroom which was light and especially easy to apply make-up as the lighting was surperb. We had decided to book for the 5 course dinner which was to die for and breakfast was special. Overall we will be going there again and hope lots of other people do to.

Room Tip: With only 5 rooms which are all good, I would opt for the deluxe which are on the front.

Rooms were large and beautifully renovated with no expense spared! The bathroom in the 'Gold' room was to die for, absolutely wonderful.
Very warm welcome, help with bags etc.
There was a terrace outside next to a small river - very cool, lovely to relax with a drink before dinner!!
Repeating our visit in September it was so good!!

Unfortunately we didn't book dinner prior to arrival. NOT a mistake we will make again!
Take care entering car park - go slowly because of a high ramp from the road! Car park is being altered so a little rough at the moment!!

We stayed in the ground floor bedroom, which was enormous. The room was beautifully decorated, had a kettle (the first I saw in a over a week of hotels in France!) and a vast modern shower room complete with bathrobes and his and hers glass washbasins. We decided to stay in and have the 5 course dinner for 29E per person which was excellent both in quality and value. Breakfast the next morning was also good, and included in the room rate. The hotel has only five rooms, which initially we found a little disconcerting, but the owners explained that this is why it's really a chambre d'hotes establishment. So I hope this also means they can keep it at this sort of price! The renovation is still in progress, and I hope they manage to develop the grounds more so that the outside space can be used too. I would definitely stay here again, and it's now my first choice for the Channel run.

I agree with the other review this is not a château but a grand mason, but either way this is a lovely place to stay for a night with wonderful food. We stayed in the family room which had been divided up with a partition wall so children had there own space which was a lovely touch. You could not fault either the dinner or the breakfast the owners went out of their way to make sure are 11year old had everything he needed for a dinner fit for king.
The only let down is the housekeeping in the room a little dusting would not go a miss, I would recommend here if you want a nice quite evening with good food at a very reasonable price.
