“Lovely location, Great hotel, Recommended!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

This was our first time in Croatia, we stayed for 1 week early Oct 2012. I picked this hotel for its proximity to Dubrovnik and as it had a shuttle bus service to the city. The pool area had outstanding views out to sea and although it was end of season and cooling off temp wise (20-28 degrees) it was refreshing to swim in the seawater pool, not too cold. The rooms were very nice and were kept spotless by the maids everyday. There is a fridge which was handy as the wine from the supermarket up the hill on the main road was well cheap! We paid extra for a seaview - it was worth it as we overlooked a lovely stony beach/bay which was a few steps away. We also has a swim in the sea every day - it was a bit warmr than the pool. The sea is bright blue and totally clear.
We stayed half board - the food was excellent with plenty of choice. As it's buffet style you can certainly over indulge! The salads were great, there were many meat and fish courses and the sweets were excellent too. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. We visited Korcula Island and Dubrovnik which is a must! I recommend the walk around the fortress walls for the best views of the city.
We usually holiday in the Greek Islands but I found Croatia a nice change - just as lovely and certainly cheaper. In Korcula old town 2 large glasses of white wine were £2 each! (18 kuna)
The hotel also had a taverna nearby with another beach and a pier for regular boat taxis to Cavtat, Dubrovnik etc.
Overall a great relaxing holiday - lovely and quiet in Plat but Cavtat and Dubrovnik are close enough for a night out. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Pick a seaview room.

Lovely pool excellent views,Pool furniture has seen better days and could do with an upgrade. Plenty of sunbeds and there is no reserving...brilliant! There is very little shade so you need to get an umbrella.Need your own towels. No dive school but it is advertised. But you can organise this via reception.Staff helpful and friendly.Food ok but selection not that varied. Shuttle bus great water taxis great. Visit Dubrovnic its brilliant.Rooms small but clean. The position of the Hotel is great but the hill in that heat (more like a mountain) forget that use the shuttle bus .We hired a boat and visited the smaller islands that are dotted about. Croatia still building itself up from after the war but they are getting there. You will see reminders like bullet holes in the buildings of Dubrovnic very sad and some of the staff have stories to tell so talk to them.

Room Tip: Any problems ask reception if they can they will!

Last year we stayed just outside of Split, the people were miserable and sometimes quite rude. This year when we arrived at the hotel Orphee we were pleasantly surprised, we went with friends and had booked at the same time but on arrival were told we did not have adjoining rooms but was offered an apartment sleeping four. It suited us perfectly, it had a lovely balcony, 2 bedrooms, 2 toilets and 1 shower. The rooms were cleaned every day. The staff were very pleasant and made every effort to speak english (unlike last year). The location was very good being only ten minutes from the airport. Getting around was not to bad there is a water taxi to Cavat which is a very pleasant place to spend a relaxing day watching the fantastic cruise liners anchored in the bay. There are also some very nice resturants there.
We stayed half board which was breakfast & eveing meal, the food for me left a lot to be desired, but other guests who were mainly french did not seem to have a problem with it.
My main complaint about the hotel would be around the swimming pool activites, the pool was fantastic but in the afternoons arobics in the water and around it would take place, which was fine apart from the music! the bar had quite good music playing and then when the arobics started they would play music as well which mainly consisted of boom, boom boom. With two lots of music playing barely 25 mtrs apart it is not what I want to hear when trying to relax on holiday. Apart from that a far better part of Croatia to stay and yes I would return to the Hotel Orphee.

This was our second visit to Croatia, the first time we were near Trogir, so we knew a bit what to expect. However we were just blown away by the Hotel/Apartment Orphee.

We booked two rooms in the Hotel next to each other (we have two girls age 13 and 15), and despite phoning to confirm prior to arrival, when we did arrive they weren't available. We were offered an apartment in the apartment blocks and it was fabulous! Big, light, a separate bedroom for our girls, views over the beach. It was cleaned every day. It also had a small hot ring so we could have a cup of tea, and a fridge. Air con was very efficient.

There are a choice of 4 beaches, Plaza, being only 3 minutes from our room. It was often quiet with only a few people there. A great place to watch the sun to go down. A man on a boat visited selling fruit like bags of figs and water melon. It was ideal.

Plat beach was more crowded but this was because it had a nice little restaurant next to it. It had a vine covered balcony and did take away wine and beer. We didn't really visit the other two beaches.

The pool was lovely. A real stunner. Sea water filled, with an infinity design. There was a part with sun loungers that looked right out to sea. It was rarely full, you could normally find a few sun loungers and the restaurant looking over it was great for snacks at lunch and in the evening you could have a few cocktails, an evening meal and watch the sunset which turned the whole pool pink. The menu was rather limited but still great.

We paid for breakfast and this was fine. I wish we hadn't bothered as the girls didn't want to get up for it (7am to 10am) and we could have easily brought fresh bread (available in the small shop on site) each day, had fresh fruit, ham and cheeses on our balcony. On the last few days I took food out of the restaurant and took it back to our room for them to have when they woke up.

We never ate there in the evening but it looked nice as they put candles out on he tables amongst the trees. They had an al a carte menu and a buffet.

We also ate in the Sunset Taverna which was nice (and looked out over the bay) but when we discovered that by walking up the hill out of the hotel, the Kings Taverna, we wish we had gone sooner. The food was just brilliant (not such a good view though) and the jugs of local wine very reasonable. The menu was much more extensive.

My only criticism would be there amount of weddings held around the pool (2 or 3 while we were there) which meant you couldn't eat at the pool restaurant. The pizza in the restaurant up by reception was not good, but all in all the place was just brilliant.

There were lots of French there as it was an all inclusive resort for them.

It was very quiet in general and ideal for a book, beach and relaxing holiday.
We got the water taxi into Cavat once. A bit pricey for a family of four (about £25) return and into Dubrovnik (similar price). We also got the local bus from the top of the hill into Dubrovnik too which was 1/4 of the price. We walked the city walls and had a lovely but pricey meal in the old town.

We also hired a jet ski from Plaza beach for half an hour as a bit of a treat.

I would thoroughly recommend this location for a quiet, relaxing break. It is quite isolated but we were there for 11 nights and could easily have stayed longer. The hotel was only 15 mins away but taxi and it was just great!

Room Tip: We were in Barbara Apartment and had one of the rooms with the big balconly. 28 I think. No lift tho...

I have just enjoyed a weeks stay. My room was spacious and comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful. Varied selection of food at breakfast buffet, cereal, eggs, sausage, bacon and the cheese and cold meat favoured by the French and German visitors, plus variety of different breads. Evening buffet was good and varied. There was a live band on four of the nights and the 'animation team' opened their 'animation basket' during the day by the pool with aquarobics, ping pong, dancing and games.Caught the boat taxi to Cavtat which is a lovely little resort and well worth a visit. The Taverna near by serves extremely good food and is only a short walk away.Small selection of shops including a mini market and gift shop. The pool is amazing and there are pleasant gardens around the hotel.

My holiday to Croatia was one of the most relaxing holidays I have had in a while. If you are looking for a quiet, beautiful and fun holiday then Hotel Orphee is the place to be. It is well suited for a wide range of visitors as they offer a variety of activities in and around the hotel from games with the entertainment team to snorkeling in the Adriatic ocean. If sunbathing is all you're after then do so at the pool side as the pool view is breath taking! The rooms themselves are simple and comfortable but all that's needed is provided. The housekeeping staff are friendly and do a wonderful job on cleaning the rooms everyday. The reception staff are welcoming and were very helpful when we needed information. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to those who are looking for a relaxing get away, 10/10!

my daughter and i must have scoured tens of travel sites looking for a beach paradise and we found it here. we enjoyed a five night holiday there recently and especially loved the spacious salt water pool. the pool opens at 10 and one cannot access it beforehand to "reserve" one of the numerous lounge chairs with a book, towel..a practice that makes me crazy. the pool was heavenly. there are at least three different beach areas that we visited, and although it seems as if non-hotel guests were also there, it was very good in those areas also. i believe they must have some type of travel arrangement with a french vacation business, as one of the restaurants, taverna, did not allow us on the first or second levels. we enjoyed a regional, well prepared meal on the third level where the views were lovely. reservations are a must. a very short walk up the hill is the king restaurant, where we ate twice and loved it, most entrees prepared on a visible open fire. the staff was outstanding, i believe a father and daughter. breakfast was adequate although the "milk" was not something we were used to. there are many choices for boat trips where they pick you up right on the docks at the hotel and we enjoyed a "fish lunch" that was delicious while visiting some of the other islands. the staff, although many with limited english, were wonderful, especially the front desk. there is a small boutique, market with beer and wine, and most necessities that one would not have to leave, which is good, as there is really no where to go. a day trip to dubrovnik on a comfortable bus that picked us up right at the hotel was disappointing, the same souvenir tshirt and overpriced food everywhere. next time, hotel orphee would be my choice and i would not leave the compound with exception of boat trip around islands

Room Tip: although all the rooms have small balconies with plastic table and 2chairs, the views of sea are obs...
