“Wonderful location, brilliant host, excellent dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2010

We would highly recommend this Pension, and Loviste, at the tip of the Pelesjac Peninsula in Croatia, is a beautiful deep bay full of crystal clear water. Our host, Robert, made us very welcome, and we had a delicious dinner just feet from the water's edge. Our room was clean and bright, overlooking the bay. The road there is steep [we should know, we went by bike!] but beautiful, climbing up from near Orebic, where the hourly ferry leaves for the 20 minute trip to Korcula, and then swooping down again towards the village.

We arrived at Gradina on bicycles after a long ride from Trpanj, and were met with a warm & friendly welcome by Robert. Our rooms were simple, clean and comfortable with gorgeous views over the bay, which is a wonderful deep inlet on the end of the peninsula. Our dinner was absolutely delicious, with really good veg [which we'd missed sometimes in Croatia after a lot of salads!], Robert's wine is delicious and, in May, Loviste was quiet and pretty. More visitors should come to the Dalmatian coast in May and September when it's quiet - you will have a wonderful time, excellent value and the temperature was perfect.. We paid 80 Euros for half board and Robert's wine was about 80 Croatian kunas a litre. There wasn't a beach, but you could just jump straight into the sea from the quayside where Gradina's tables are laid out. Only slight criticism - it was a bit untidy outside on the way to the rooms.

My husband and I (together with my teenage sister) had a wonderful stay in Pension Gradina. We went at the beginning of May before the start of the tourist season and the village restaurants were yet to open. Not that we minded for Robert, the owner, made us fabulous food. One night we had a feast of a huge bowl of prawns, grilled squid, grilled fish, pork chips, veg picked from his garden and the best chips in the world!

The 1-bed apartment was spacious and perfectly adequate for the three of us. In fact, it could accomodate 4+ people quite comfortably. The balcony overlooks the beautiful bay of Loviste and is the perfect place to chill out and watch the sun go down.

Only word of advice is that Loviste is about 2 hours from Dubrovnik and some of the roads are quite steep. The nearest town is Orebic, approx 20 minutes and a steep hill away. Pension Gradina is the perfect place if you want to get away from it all! We will definitely go back.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hugging a big, beautiful bay, red-roofed Loviste has quiet bayside break written all over it. Located on the far northern tip of Croatia’s Peljesac Peninsula, there’s an unmistakably out-of-the-way feel here that’s deeply soothing. A little fishing village with only about 250 inhabitants, the rhythm of life here is ultra-restful. Villagers make simple livings from fishing and running the few, good quality konoba sprinkled along the pretty harbourside. Trail slowly along the waterfront and make yourself at home, sipping a refreshing iced coffee or Malvasia wine while you peer out over the empty bay and pine-frosted headlands beyond. When it’s time for the beach, there’s a large sweep of pebbles with gentle waters perfect for the kids. If the pebbles don’t appeal, station yourself on the sunny bathing platforms and landing stages studding the bayside, occasionally plunging into the bracing Adriatic to cool off. ... more   less
