“Beautiful in so many ways”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

Omar and his family are wonderful people, very welcoming. The setting is fantastic. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The food is great. While it's a distance from many of the sites of this part of Costa Rica, they will provide a shuttle service - or a driver, guide, and companion for the day - for a very reasonable price. We were sad to leave this idyllic spot.

We stayed for 2 nights (with our two young children) and every aspect was excellent. From tours of the fruit on the grounds by the passionate local owner, to two sightings of flocks of Toucans, to the superb breakfast and dinner lovingly made by the owner's daughter, to the very clean and new cabins to the sparkling pool which was perfect following a long day of volcano trekking, this place is superb.

We can't say enough about how friendly the family that owns this place is. The breakfast they make every morning is simply incredible. The hotel is about 25 minutes south of La Fortuna and on your way to the hotel you pass several sights such as Salto: Waterfalls with a Tarzan rope (free). La Fortuna is a somewhat depressing town so we were glad to stay outside of it. We stayed in their treehouse and drank mango juice from our own treehouse tree every morning.

Heliconias is owned by a local family that is absolutely brilliant. They were were welcoming and made every effort to make us comfortable throughout the stay. They cooked us traditional breakfast every morning. It was a total blast and it was more like living with a local family than it was living at a hotel. Don't get me wrong, it is very much a hotel and you have your privacy. The facilities and the property grounds are great.

The one thing to keep in mind is that the hotel is ~17 kilometers south of La Fortuna and you will need a car to get here or rent a cab.

Room Tip: Try the tree house. It is a worthwhile experience.

Only short drive from Fortuna, the cabins are beautifully and the attention of the host family is excellent. The food is amazing, the best Costarrican food i have had so far. it is a mountain hotel, so the area is is excellent if you are looking for a relaxing environment and you are looking for a unique and authentic interaction with a local family.

Room Tip: All rooms are nice.

Awesome place. We stayed in the tree house. This was a great experience for me and my 7 year old son. The hosts were amazing and my son quickly became attached to their family. The pool is clean and refreshing....day or night. The place is very safe and close to a small town..and only 30 minutes from Volcano Arenal area. Really laid back...but hosts are very (always) accessible.

You have to see this place to really appreciate it and enjoy the hospitality of the hosts.

Room Tip: all cabins are nice, but for a truly unique experience....get the tree house.
