“Rustic decor, modern atmosphere”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013

This is a very clean and modern hotel with a rustic look. The walk-in tile shower is spacious and spotless. The staff was friendly and helpful in all regards. We had a comfortable and quiet night of sleep one block from the main road. Highly recommended.

We stayed here for 2 nights, me, my husband and our 2 boys.
Rooms are clean, beds are good, breakfast was delicious.
The staff and owners are friendly and helpfull, they booked all our activities (canopy tour and a coffee plantation.)
You can find good restaurants close to the lodge!

We spent three nights with our three boys (3, 8, 11) in the family room and it was ideal. The owner is incredible. He was there to brew a cup of coffee, help plan your daily trips, recommend restaurants, and even played with the kids during our down time. The hotel is clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was always good. The place is a good fit honestly for both adult groups and family groups, and it is a quick drive into town from the lodge.

Monteverde was our destination in the middle of our trip and after driving on those bumpy roads to get to our destination, being greeted by Jose at the Rustic Lodge was a welcome relief! Right from the start the emphasis was on relaxing and feeling at home. We were offered tea and coffee and shown to our rooms. Decorated with rustic wooden furniture, it was a very comfortable atmosphere. The rooms were spacious, no AC but it wasn't needed! If anything, Santa Elena was the chilliest of the locations on this trip! The winds certainly pick up at night, whistling through the buildings. The walls were thin and we could hear our neighbors during the day but neither the neighbors, nor the winds disturbed our sleep at night (and I'm not a very deep sleeper). The rooms were clean and they have a laundry service as well. They offer a homemade breakfast everyday (chef's choice but usually eggs or pancakes, fruit and toast) and Jose was very helpful with our day and evening plans.

We happened to be in town during the Santa Elena Christmas Parade and Jose gave us personal tips as to where to eat and get the best view of the parade - it was an amazing experience! Santa Elena and Monteverde are both grown into the hillside so it was always a hike up and down hills to get to our destinations but it was worth the hike! The town felt like home and you really got the feeling of being a part of a large family - everyone one knew everyone else, everyone was friendly and welcoming. If you don't like to walk and prefer to be more centrally located, a hotel in town may be a better option but we loved being just outside of the town but within walking distance. I would definitely stay here again!

Spent one night at the Rustic Lodge, very nice Lodge, very clean, comfortable beds, friendly staff, great breakfast. Front desk staff went out of their way to accommodate us. Booked a coffee tour for us and suggested where to eat. If you are not a walker might want to take a cab to this location all up hill but well worth the trip. We came by bus and decided to spend one night in Santa Elena before staying at the Cloud Forest. "Great choice".

We stayed for two nights at the Rustic Lodge in Santa Elena. Jose, the owner is amazing. Very friendly and helpful. He can arrange whatever you need or want to do. The rooms are very clean, nicely decorated and spacey. As the Rustic Lodge is off the main road it#s very quiet. They serve a good and healthy breakfast every morning. Definitely a place to recommend!

We just drove into to town with no place in mind and stopped at the Rustic Lodge. We couldn't have been happier. Jose was was very friendly and helpful. We were only going to have have an afternoon and the next day for tours and adventures and he helped us line up our excursions perfectly. The rooms were clean and perfect for the adventure of Monteverdi. Jose lined up an amazing canopy tour for us. I have done many it was by far the best! The guide, Christian, that Jose lined up for our tour through the rain forest was very knowledgable and spoke English very well. We would not hesitate to stay at the Rustic Lodge again.
