We just got back from our trip to Costa Rica and spent our first two nights at Arco Iris. We really enjoyed the hotel while we were there. It was clean, safe, and private; plus the staff at Arco Iris was nice and answered any questions we had. It is located very centrally to town and you can walk to many places. Some reviews complained about a lot of noise coming from town, but we never noticed it- day or night!
The breakfast they offered seemed to be the best deal around at only $7/person. They had a selection of typical Costa Rican fare and offered to cook you eggs to order. I would highly suggest eating here to get a good meal at a great price! They grow a lot of their own food in a large garden behind the main lodge- be sure to walk back there and take a look!
We stayed in room two which had a queen bed, great bathroom, and nice front porch. There was even a flatscreen tv which we weren't expecting! The bed was very, very firm, which we didn't enjoy, but we LOVED the waterfall shower. We also enjoyed sitting on the front porch at night and reading or playing cards. The hotel room did not have air conditioning but the weather while we were there was surprisingly cool so it wasn't a problem. I would suggest taking a pair of pants though in case the weather is cool while you are there- we only had shorts, and were fine, but pant's wouldn't have hurt!
While there be sure to eat at Morphos and zipline with Sky Adventures! Also, when planning your trip, I would suggest spending a few days in Monteverde or skipping it all together. We only spent one real day here and we just ziplined, which we could have done in Arenal. I think we would have enjoyed Monteverde more if we had done a few more activities like the coffee tour or a night tour of the jungle. It just seemed like a lot of travel time for little reward. I did love traveling on the crazy, bummpy, costa rican roads though- you got to see so much of what the country was really like!
