I was visiting Santa Elena while my kids were in class at the Spanish immersion school, CPI in Monteverde. I knew my son (8 years old) would not like the orchid garden and so I decided to go alone. The cost of admission was close to $10.00, which included a guided tour with an English speaking guide. My guide was very knowledgeable and passionate about the garden and everything within it. It is a rather primitive garden with pathways; it almost feels like you are in someone's private garden in their backyard. The guide explained different facts about the orchids and pointed out many, many different varieties. The guide was useful because some orchids you could barely see they were so tiny! After the tour I took many photos and ventured on my own. I could have stayed longer, but I had to get my kids at school. I would recommend the orchid garden because the orchids were beautiful and exotic, the garden was well maintained and the guide was informative and friendly. I also liked it because my time there alone was very relaxing. :)
