My husband and I took the Hidden Valley Night Tour and we were glad we did. We saw a coati, an agouti, many birds and insects, and an orange-kneed tarantula. It was neat to be out in the jungle in the dark, and fortunately there was no rain. They provided flashlights. But what made it even better was that before the start of the walk, our guide mentioned we should save our tickets and return within the next few days during the daytime if we wanted to hike on our own with maps they would provide.
So the next day we went back and hiked for 2.5 hours and saw a lot of other interesting things. During the daytime you can see the incredible views all the way over to the Nicoya Peninsula, as well as the many varieties of butterflies in the area. We saw different birds than we had seen at night and we came across a whole family of coatis foraging in the dirt for their lunch . Also had a snake which we later identified at the Serpentarium as the green viper cross our path. Hard to say if we enjoyed the nighttime or the daytime hike better. I would highly recommend this activity!
