“Very friendly and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

My family and I stayed here for a couple of nights during a New Year trip to Costa Rica. We had originally planned to stay the whole time in La Fortuna, but when the manager of the Arenal Hostel there told us he had another place in Monteverde (Santa Elana) and that it was easy to get to, we quickly switched our plans.

This is quite a small hotel, located right on Monteverde's "Golden Triangle"; in other words, very close to all the action. We had an upstairs room looking out across the road. It was rather spartan inside, with a queen bed and a bunk bed for our two children, and nowhere to put our things, and no A/C (not that we needed it). That said, it was clean enough, and there was plenty of hot water while we were there.

The guys downstairs were very helpful in recommending places for us to eat, and which tours would be best for us (the Monteverde cloud forest tour was easily the best for us), and also helped book us a taxi to San Jose when it was time to leave.

There is free breakfast in the price, consisting of pancakes and fruit with fresh tea or coffee. The small dining room downstairs is a great place to meet other residents, who we found to be from a wide range of backgrounds.

This place is good. Try it out sometime...

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms seem to be quieter.

“AWESOME STAFF!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

While my travel companion and I did not actually stay at this property I felt compelled to write a review for the amazing helpfulness we received from the staff at the Oasis. Funny enough we had been recommended this place but didn't search it out and only noticed the morning we were leaving that we'd been staying right next door! In any event the morning we decided to leave things got rather complicated trying to arrange transportation and when I wandered in to the Oasis to ask about using the phone, Bray (? the manager) and staff could not have been more helpful. Within 10 minutes Bray had our tickets for us then offered to mind our bags until our mini bus arrived. After the STRESSFUL morning we had been having Bray's unsolicited helpfulness was an inspiration and I only wish we had taken the advise we received to stay there originally. Thank you SO much Bray!

“not to shabby”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

Went here because a hostel i was staying at works with hotel Oasis. The price was great. $12 bucks a night. I was supposed to get a shared room but when i got there they were all taken so they gave me a room with two beds and I was the only one there. The walls are paper thin but you get what you paid for and this is not a complaint because just an amazing experience to be there. The night I stood was pouring rain and windy. You could almost hear the clouds speak it was magical and kinda scary.

As for the actual room it was very plain and basic. One shouldn't expect more because one should always go out and explore so I do recommend this place.

TIP: there is a restaurant right next to Hotel Oasis on the left that is green and semi colorful. EAT THERE. It was the best Tico food I had on my trip.

“The staff make this place awesome”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

It was raining, hard, late at night, and we were driving with two little kids, hungry, and honestly kind of lost. Who knew the road was so L O N G and bumpy? Where is Monteverde? We came across Hotel Oasis, saw the lights on, it looked welcoming, the price was right, the room was basic and clean and Evan at the front desk was SO FRIENDLY AND HELPFUL that we looked no further. It was a great choice. Santa Elena turns out to be a nice hub for excursions to all the sights and activities in Monteverde. We like to be somewhere where we can walk to different restaurants and so it was perfect for us. Best of all, Even helped us navigate the whole activity maze, and map out what we wanted to do, help us figure out what stuff we could walk to, and got us great prices on all our activities. Plus, breakfast is included. Yes, it's on the main road so there could be some traffic, but it certainly wasn't bothersome, and we had wifi in our room for the first time in a week, so that was kind of fun especially since the presidential election was happening!!! Evan continued to be super helpful and made our stay amazing. Thanks Hotel Oasis!!! Sometimes it's all about who you meet.

“Good value but be warned the town is noisy, free wi-fi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012 via mobile

Santa Elena is a great base for the activities around Monteverde. There are plenty of restaurants and shops in town. The Hotel Oasis is conveniently located on the south triangle base of the main part of town. If you drove there, you can park across the street (5 spaces), or in the two-car berth beside reception if you are lucky.

We paid $30/night for a private room for the two of us (there was a double and single bed in the room), $25 if you're one person wanting a private room. I think it's $15pppn for shared accommodation.

Be warned that staying in town is noisy as cars and motorbikes are loud and angry (if you want to anthropomorphise them!) from the terrible rough unpaved roads in the area. Hotel Oasis' rooms are not well insulated and you will hear everything - particularly worst on the streetside rooms. Be ready with earplugs.

The reception staff are friendly and helpful - a bit of push-selling of activities but they're not bolshy about it and are still nice if you don't book anything. They'll provide you with a map and highlight everything to see/do and if you have your own car, you can go around to them on your own.

The rooms themselves are neat and tidy, a bit worn but of a decent size and the cleaner comes in every day. The bathroom is a little small and a bit worn but otherwise fine. It's nice to have the free wi-fi and it reaches the rooms.
If you can handle the noise and want to stay right in town, then Hotel Oasis is as good a choice as any.
