“Very nice train ride for kids”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

My 2.5 year old son LOVES trains, so it was clear to us that we have to take him to on this attraction. Overall the experience was very nice and organized well. We were taken by a shuttle from our hotel and also had a shuttle back to the hotel arranged.

The train ride was about 1.5 hours in total with a nice break in the middle for sugar cane tea and cookies and light hiking in the forest. My main issue is that as this is mainly a kids attraction I would expect the tour to be a bit more kid oriented with activities/explanation more for kids, but I assume they are keeping it focused on the entire family This might be boring for people who really want to hike, but after spending the day before in the Monteverde rainforest it was a very nice additional experience for my son. It is also overpriced, but so are all of the attractions in Monteverde, and this was by far the best one we did.

“Beautiful views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Beautiful views of the volcano and lake that you just can't get anywhere else. Take some time to grab lunch before or after the train ride. Charming and perfect for kids, or elderly folks who have a tough time getting around or for those who don't want to hike everywhere all the time.

“Great trains, but too cloudy to see anything.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2013

The trains were great. It had a conductor that translated in English and Spanish. Since we had a big day pland for the next day, we decided that we wanted a simple easy adventure. It fit the bill. Unfortunately, because we are in the rainforest, it was too cloudy to see the lake. But, the forest was beautiful to look at.

“Pretty awesome for kids!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013

Two young kids (almost 3yo and 1) loved it VERY much. Train was neat. Guide explained lots of flora and fauna but could not answer all of our questions. At end of railways, they offered cookie with either coffee or sugar water, plus little loop hike, and view of Arenal volcano and Arenal lake. Would recommend it.

“Not many places like this”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

You probably won't find another place like this as it is a rain forest but higher in the mountains so it is cool even in the summer. Best to go during the spring when it is still the dry season. If you go in the fall it will be wet all the time. Be prepared for a lot of walking. And don't forget the last 20 K of road is not paved so it is very bumpy takes about an hour to slug through this experience. The town of Santa Elena has paved roads but Monteverde does not. There are a lot of great places to stay some for all budgets. Taxi's are reasonable and they know where they are going. Many of them speak some English and if you stay for any length of time you will see people you have met at the store or on the road. Everyone either knows everyone or is related to someone. There are many great places to hike. Some are guided hikes. You will see some of the most interesting animals. Some fly, some crawl. Monkeys, Toucans, Parrots, all kinds of beasty.
