“Top notch place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

You couldn't ask for a better place to stay. Rooms are clean, comfortable bed, hot water and quiet night's sleep. Breakfast is amazing, cooked to order and served with a smile. A short cab ride to town costs under $2 or you can walk with no problem. Tours will pick you up free of charge. Wifi in rooms or computer to use in the main lounge. Friendliest host in Costa Rica. Would return for sure!

Room Tip: We stayed in one of the private cabins and they were very roomy and quiet.

If you are plannig to go to Costa Rica a trip to Monteverde is a must. Do not rent a car!!! You will have to pay the rental fee and insurance-again (your credit card insurance does not apply). Best is to TAXI and enjoy the drive - and what a view! Many roads are not paved, just dirt and cobble stones. Our experinced driver took 4 hours from Port Caldera to Monteverde. The road going to Monteverde is a steep climb up the mountain on a narrow road with no guardrails. I am glad my husband was not driving, we would have had many fights especially when big trucks came driving down straight at us.
The Villa Lodge is a 10 min. walk to the center of Santa Elena. There you will find many souvenier stores, restaurants, church, supermarket and other trinket stores.
The people are very friendly and I felt safe walking by myself. Many dogs roam the streets.
Now about our accomodations at Villa Lodge. The staff is friendly and organized. The two of us had a huge room with a tv and a computer for our disposal. They helped us with planning our days and suggested great tours that were very educational and enjoyable. Tea and coffee was offered all day through. Although there is no a/c there was no need for it, the night were cool and comfortable for sleeping. Breakfast was delicious and plenty of it. We highly recommend Villa Lodge. Thank you to the owners Anna and Heiner.

Room Tip: Check if the room is clean, comfortable and quiet.

This hotel is located just outside the town of Santa Elena, a five minute walk to the centre. This is great as it's just far enough away to be very quiet in the evenings, but you can still access all the services. Heiner and Ana did everything they could to make us feel incredibly welcome, providing free cups of coffee throughout our stay and allowing us to have breakfast hours after it had officially ended!!!

The room was spacious and comfortable with a small kitchenette which included a variety of appliances including a coffee machine.

The price was mid-range for the area but it certainty felt like excellent value for money.

I would recommend anyone looking for an excellent service and friendly hosts to stay here!

My boyfriend and I stayed here three nights. We arrived very late, at 2am and Heiner was up to let us into our room. The room was large and air conditioned, the beds were comfortable with extra bedding, and the bathroom was great with a huge shower (with hot water)! The sink ran cold only but the shower was great. The room even came with a small kitchenette.

The hotel is within 5 minutes walking distance of the town of Monteverde with tons of restaurants, shops and a grocery store. Heiner organized either free transportation or a taxi to take us on all tours, and helped with laundry before leaving.

Highly recommend this place for your stay in Monteverde!

My wife and I stayed here 3 nights during our trip to Costa Rica. Monteverde Villa Lodge was one of our favorite places we stayed at during our 13 day trip.

Heiner & Ana know how to deliver excellent service. From the time we arrived (with an offer with a cup of coffee) to the time we left, they were extremely helpful and made our stay comfortable and relaxing.

Our room was clean, comfortable and large. Breakfast was a treat every morning and was one of the best traditional breakfasts we ate on our trip.

Not much to add to the reviews as the rest of the reviews are pretty much spot on - it's a great place to stay!

We would definitely come back to stay and would highly recommend to friends and family visiting Monteverde area.

The couple who manages this place are organized, friendly, and very helpful. They helped us book a number of tours and everything went like clockwork. The room was spacious and pretty and had a tiny kitchenette so we had plates and a knife to cut open and eat a watermelon and some mangos we'd bought on our way to the lodge. It's easy walking distance to the town but removed enough so that it's peaceful. It was very clean and I slept like a rock there.
