“Quaint Bed & Breakfast a Short Walk from Santa Elena Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

This is well-run bed and breakfast a short walk from Santa Elena town. We stayed for 3-nights here and the owners, Jose and Andres, are quite accommodating and quick to offer suggestions for activities. They both speak fluent English, a plus for travelers with limited Spanish speaking abilities, and were born and raised in the area, so you you definitely get the sense they know what they're talking about!

Getting there: Jose arranged private transportation for us from San Jose Airport to Camino Verde. It's about a 3-hour ride, and for the most part, OK. However, the last 20-30 minutes was BUMPY! Brace yourself...

Location: A short 10-min walk from Santa Elena, the bed & breakfast is in a convenient location.

Accommodations: Clean, with lots of 'personality'. We had a room with a private bathroom. Bed was OK -- what you would be expect for a bed & breakfast. The walls are thin - if you listen closely, you can hear the conversations. And even if you don't listen closely, you can still hear the conversations! And keep in mind this is a sustainable place, so no flushing toilet paper down the toilet!

Breakfast: Included in the price and was yummy! (One day, we were running late for the tour and Andres was kind enough to pack breakfast to-go for us! Very thoughtful!)

Nearby Attractions: We didn't have a car and relied on guided tours throughout out entire stay, so proximity of attractions was not an issue for us as pick-up/drop-off transportation was included in the tours.

Overall, a good stay.

We visited in 2011, and it looks like they have remodeled since then, but I wanted to give a good review anyway because I think it deserves it. Hostel staff (Andres) was friendly and hospitable, and our room was nice and clean. Would definitely recommend if you're in Monteverde!

I booked and paid for a room at the Camino Verde through Hotels.com 6 weeks before my arrival. When I arrived, I was taken down the street to a room that turned out to have no A/C or hot water. I soon realized that this was actually a different place called Cabinas Sol y Luna. When I confronted the guys at Camino Verde, they told me that Camino Verde was full, so they had to put me somewhere else. I still had the services of Camino Verde available when I walked up the street to it, and Andres and Jose were otherwise very helpful.

Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately we had some email issues with this reservation, and it happened during christmas time when things get a liite crazy everywhere. We encourage other travellers to see other comments. We had to locate this customer in a different hotel and did not end up being so good. Everywhere was full. No hotel in Monterverde has AC becasue we are in the Cloud Forest. Thank you

This place was absolutely fantastic. The minute we arrived, we were sat down by Andres and he helped us book four tours on the spot, so we had activities to look forward to. The environment is so welcoming thanks to amazing staff -and there was a beautiful common area with free coffee and tea at all times, and just a beautiful space. The air in Monteverde is so fresh! We had a private room with a shower, which had one bed and one bunk bed, and it was great - clean and homey. Breakfast was included and it was delicious! We met alot of great people at this bed and breakfast, and went on tours with them. The common area was a great place to meet new friends, or just relax with a cup of tea and a book - they always had chill music playing as well! The bed and breakfast is a 2 minute walk into the town - where there are restaurants, and shops. Right next door to Camino Verde there are two local restaurants and a local jeweller.

I would come back here in a heartbeat - it was so welcoming and friendly, and for a Great price. I highly recommend this place, which has such a great value, compared to staying at somewhere more expensive.
For the tours, I really enjoyed the Santa Maria night walk, and the ziptreking tour (for the adventurous!)

Thanks again for a great stay!!! Hope to come back one day!

My brother and I had an amazing time during our stay at Camino Verde in February of 2013. The staff was extremely welcoming, friendly, and helpful, and the laid back atmosphere was wonderful to come back to after each long day of exploring Monteverde. The rooms, showers, and bathrooms were always exceptionally clean, and the showers were always hot. Great kitchen area for making your own food, and a nice flat screen screen TV that plays old school music videos all day :). Great location, great people, free wifi, included breakfast (I would recommend the pancakes and fruit; it's yummy!), comfortable rooms, and clean amenities all at a great price! Camino Verde definitely made our stay in Monteverde a great one, and it will always be my one and only choice when traveling to the area.

My family had the pleasure of staying 2 nights at Camino Verde in Santa Elena. Andres and Jose are super helpful and very friendly. Check in was quick and efficient and once checked in they helped us plan all of our activities for the area. It was so easy, and everything was perfect. The room was clean and there is a good kitchen area for making your own lunch/supper if you want. Breakfast was included and there were 4 options to choose from. My kids loved it and although the rooms are small, the friendliness of the staff and the welcoming feel that we received more than made up for it. I would recommend visiting Camino Verde if a stay in Santa Elena is in your plans.

Room Tip: We had a room with a private bath which was nice for our family.

If you're going to visit Monteverde staying here is a MUST!

My friend and I travelled to Costa Rica and was planning on staying in Monteverde for a couple nights and found this place on trip advisor, liked the reviews so we booked 2 nights. We were greeted by a very happy Andres at the front desk and he helped us out with EVERYTHING. As soon as we checked in he was helping us book all of our tours and shuttles and basically everything else we needed. EXCELLENT service and very fun to talk to.

We got checked into our room which was great, it felt like a cabin inside with a bunk bed and queen with private bathroom. We are from Canada and instantly felt like home. The room was very clean, cozy, good lighting, and comfortable beds.

The main area of the place is very very nice. Very open and bright, cozy, and inviting. When we weren't out and about exploring the town you would find us just hanging out in the dinning area drinking tea or coffee or chatting with the other guests.

Breakfast in the mornings are included and are wonderful! We had pancakes and scrambled eggs both mornings because they were delicious.

It's a perfect little place to relax at after being out and about all day walking in the forest or zip lining through it. We didn't want to leave! It's in a great location right next to a great restaurant to get dinner, a mini market for snacks, and only 5 min walk from the main bit of town.

If we do ever go back to Costa Rica we are definitely making another trip to Camino Verde!
