“Busy and helpful hostel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

My young daughter and I stayed in this hostel. I wanted a hostel experience, more or less. There is a policy here that if you travel with young children (mine was under 10), you must stay in a private room. As first I was bummed about the additional cost, but from a protective parent's point of view, it more than made sense. And, it was totally worth it. Private room, private bathroom. It was essentially a hotel room for much cheaper than a hotel. It was clean, and looked very much like a cabin inside. We loved it.

Downtown is walking distance. Supermarket is right there. The people who run the hostel are extremely helpful with information and will book you on excursions if you'd like. They also speak English, should you need it.

Room Tip: There are only a few private rooms, and they are upstairs. It was busy when we were there, but we sl...

I stayed for about four nights in this hostel, and it's incredibly comfortable and relaxed. There is a nice lounge area and patio for just sitting and enjoying breakfast. Close to the town centre, and the staff are very helpful with arranging trips. No bar, restaurant but I think this helps keep it calm. Plus there are some very close bars/ restaurants around the corner as well as a super market.

Room Tip: Smaller the better is usually a given, but any room here will be comfortable.

This place is small which gives it its charm. It was quieter than the other Backpacker hostels we stayed at, which was nice, but we still met some great people. The rooms were clean and somewhat spacious (compared to other hostels). Santa Elena is a small town, so this place is located right in the center and it's convenient to get around. The free breakfast wasn't really anything special...white bread, nutella, fruit. But hey, it's only $10 a night! The guys working at the hostel are extremely nice and helpful and their two dogs are so cute! I would definitely recommend staying here if you're planning on going to the area!

Stayed here for a few nights while in Monteverde, was a great little place! The dorm room was clean, the people were friendly and Alonso the guy who runs the hostel was really helpful and nice. The hostel is also pretty close to the supermarket and other places in town, has free wifi and a kitchen. The free breakfast was nice as well. Overall was pretty great, would definitely recommend staying here.

This hostel is very basic and not very pretty also. I stayed in a 4 bed dorm, the bed sheets were old and in very bad condition but clean. The service is good, the guy at the entrance is very nice, the place is clean and there were no bugs, they give you a free breakfast which is fruit and bread with nutella. The kitchen is very small and messy outside. You can get a better hostel in Monteverde for the same price.

Dear Valeria,

Thanks for staying with us and for the comment you gave us, always take the good things from them and try to get better in whatever our customers think that we are not doing good.

Everyone like diferet things and you did not like our hostel much, but if you check the last 10 reviews, people all talk great things about it, you will have to stay somewhere else and then see if you get better services or insted the oposite.

Almost missed this place driving in, but it's right off of the center of Santa Elena city. The room was nice, though the bunk bed and full- or queen- size bed barely fit in the room. Hot water in the showers and a small, but serviceable kitchen. Fruit, bread, and coffee is provided for breakfast. The staff is very knowledgeable of attractions in the area, and Brian (?) helped us find some great attractions a bit more off the beaten path, including a coffee tour with an actual organic coffee farmer, instead of a touristy tour-and-taste. Depending on the day, atmosphere could be buzzing and party-like or pretty chill. Can be a bit noisy due to nearby bars and the ever-present loudspeakers at Super Compro, but still a great choice.

Room Tip: If you want a quieter stay, consider asking if upstairs rooms are available. Not a big problem for m...

The hostel is just down the road from the grocery store, restaurants, and bars. Also very close to the bus stop and bus terminal. We had a blast with the owner Alonso and his two puppies: Bob and Comanche. Alonso was so friendly and easy going! Great deal too. We paid $10 each with breakfast included! We especially loved hanging out on the patio in the evening and playing Jenga with everyone. Met lots of great people. Great place to spend my birthday!
