“Great Beach for Running in AM”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2014

Our second visit this January 2014. We love the quiet charm and old-fashioned European elegance. We stayed in some older mansion sites that have been redeveloped and they were stunning--one floor above the beach!

The beach is the best place for older legs to run! It's hard enough that you can wear running shoes. If you run about 5 laps of the beach, it's about 8k. the running helps you to enjoy the great menu with less conflict and guilt!! highly recommended.

We stayed here for three nights, eating dinners here three evenings& lunches in Tambor & Mont. Deluxe suites 701-703 best views of ocean. 704-705, least desirable. Hotel, right on the beach would be best choice. Our hotel was clean, however we had ant problems, no wifi ever in our room & this was the first hotel we stayed in without complimentary robes. The a/c unit's fan is out on your balcony, so you need to turn off a/c to sit out there. Many friendly Europeans stay here. I noticed how quiet their conversations were. Pool was very refreshing & clean. "Staking out" practiced here, so if you find a spot @ pool; stake it out! Dinners were ok. Table side preparation ofCaesar was the best. Thank you, Anders. Next night we had it with chicken. We liked the fact that this hotel was convenient to two towns for us, as we had our own car. Beach water is rough , but down towards the jetty, you can find a calm section without being banged up. Beach for walking is about half mile long. Did not play golf, but fairways & greens were well kept. We hiked the waterfall. Dry season, but was a nice hike, especially because we saw, up close & personal, three howler monkeys. Awesome! Also, the lookout hike was great to do. Our pictures turned out great! The Proprietor of this hotel is very friendly & wants your stay to be memorable.

i stayed at the Tango Mar while on a single get-away.
as a lone traveling female, i was looking for a place safe, yet quite and beautiful as well, someplace where i could find peace of mind. as i came before the big holiday season i found it. i had a room right on the shore and the sound of the waves put me to sleep every night. i also was put in touch with an AMAZING yoga/pilates instructor who did one on one classes with me twice a day, Carolina. she was so war and friendly and caring...
She gave me great routines and tricks that i use to this day and have changed me ever since.
when i look back i only have fond memories.
cant wait to return to paradise

The tango mar is on a truly lovely beach - it seemed too good to be true that we almost had the beach to ourselves! The staff was friendly and helpful - in particular they were wonderful with making transportation arrangements to our next stop. The dining room was lovely. But, the hotel itself suffered from a lack of attention to many things. The tables, umbrellas and chairs at the pool were filthy. The food was passable to terrible depending on what you ordered, with nothing being great. It was difficult to go anywhere else, so dining on the property was somewhat mandatory and very disappointing. Trips advertised as available required several people to sign up, so if you are traveling as a couple and wanted to do something, you often could not because it required additional attendees - same was true with yoga- only available if several people signed up. So, if you want to stay on a lovely beach in this part of the world, this is a great location. If you want somewhere with nice people, this is good too. But, bring wipes for the pool furniture, friends to take advantage of tours, and power bars to sustain you.

This hotel is located near tambor on a beutifull public but difficult to reach beach with palm trees, white sand and waves. The sight of the beach from the rooms poolside restaurant or pool is spectacular. The new luxury rooms are located a little further from the pools and restaurant but very nicely furnished. The small trail to the look out point at sundown is certainly worth the climb!
Staff and boss are exceptional, their mission seems to be to make you feel at home,
A perfect relaxing end to a 3weeks in costa rica

My wife and I spent 3 nights at the Tango Mar in our drive around Costa Rica. My wife had been wanting to visit this country for the past several years, I decided to splurge a little and stay in higher end resorts (we normally rent homes or apartments). The Tango Mar is down an unpaved (shall we say) road away from everything. I upgraded to a Tiki suite which are free standing units with king size beds, jacuzzi, and outside patio. We had #705 which had a partially obstructed view, but not a big deal. The breakfast plan is a must and we only ate at the restaurant each evening as we didn't want a drive back after a few drinks. Regardless the food hear is great and the service cannot be matched. The internet was reliable and the pool and bar were great! We liked this place so much as we only ventured off the property to see Montezuma for a few hours one day. Larry & Kelly, Georgetown, Texas

Room Tip: Go with a Tiki Suite with numbers lower that 705.

We had spent a week in a different area on Nicoya Peninsula enjoying the wonderful beaches, and rustic settings. Tango Mar sent a comfortable car to pick us up and bring us to their hotel (comfortable is important here due to the horrible road conditions everywhere). Coming into the ally leading down to Tango Mar and finally arrive was like arriving at Shangri-La (I imagine). Beautiful location on the beach, lovely gardens and a warm welcome with fruit juices and cold napkins after the drive, then sitting in the open lobby just relaxing while we waited for a ride to our "tropical suite" at the top of the hill. Room is well appointed with jacuzzi, a canopy covered bed and many nice touches throughout. The group of rooms at the top share a smaller pool as well. We walked down the many steps to the main pool with a swim-up bar, nice lunch restaurant and steps down to the beach. The surf was very strong when we were there so it was nice to have the pool. Dinner in the main building was very nice, good food and good service in an open air restaurant. The owner, Hilde, came by to chat for a bit, very nice touch. As I am a little uneasy about snakes in the dark, we got a ride up the hill in one of the golf carts on the return after dinner (were told not to worry about snakes, but I still do). Earlier, we enjoyed the walk over to the look-out point, even though it was a bit hard to find the entry and there was a somewhat scary aerial bridge in less than good repair to cross. The views were all worth the hike though! I would not have picked the tropical suites rooms had I known what a hike it was to get up and down on steep winding steps through vegetation, so if you have achy knees, book the beach front properties. (Our friends had a beach front room with an easy walk on level grounds to and from the lobby/restaurant area.) Breakfast in the morning was great, with a varied buffet and eggs made to taste. They provided car service to the airport as well (at a reasonable cost). It's a very well maintained property in all aspects from what I could tell, with professional and friendly staff throughout. Not necessarily for the young party crowd, but I would recommend it for a romantic hideaway vacation, or in our case, to relax together with a couple of dear old friends in beautiful surroundings.

Room Tip: Even though they offer a ride up/down the hill, if you have difficulty walking up or down steps, boo...
