“Great Place to Stay and Relax”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013

My partner and I stayed at this wonderful place last month and we had a great time. The service is excellent and the owner of the hotel really makes you feel like you are at home.i saw her spending time talking with all the guests. She is definitely one of the friendliest hotel owners I have met. I was celebrating my partner's birthday and she accommodated a private table right in front of the beach for our celebration and also surprised us with a personalized birthday cake for him. Those little details are what make a big difference and for us it is a place that we will always remember for the next time we go to Cost Rica. .

The resort is the nicest we stayed in during our trip to Costa Rica. The owner asked how our day was every evening, very hands on. A little remote and too quiet for our 20 something boys, but perfect for our age group. The horseback riding on well mannered, healthy horses was the highlight of our stay. Galloping on the beach was memorable! Just realize that the waves are big and swimming is dangerous, but they have three beautiful connecting pools to chose from to enjoy while watching the surf. Great experience....Pura Vida!

Room Tip: The surf was very loud which was desirable for most people, but because we live in a beach community...

We loved this spot. Yes it is very secluded and far from most places, but that is what we were looking for. The pool area and hammock spot was beautiful (and often very quiet - we had hours by ourselves). The staff was extremely nice and we thought the food was great (although a bit expensive) It was the perfect spot if you want 2-3 days of r&r at a non-commercialized location. There are also a couple of national parks nearby for some short day trips. We would go back in a heartbeat

we spent 6 days here at the end of a tour of Costa Rica. I was concerned that it was too isolated which turned out to be the case, however, it was a wonderful experience. We had land crabs coming out at night, snakes (harmless) by pool, although I did not think so at the time. Food a really gourmet experience. For me the whole area was fairly isolated, we did do a trip to see monkeys and saw makaws, but would not recommend for a holiday on its own. You need to do a tour of Costa Rica to appreciate the difference of the various regions;s. Nice place to end the tour if you want some relaxation.

Room Tip: We had a room in the main building, very spacious and everything you would want.

We were at this hotel in May. 7 days that we spent there bylinastoyaschim miracle. The entire staff at a big happy family and we ourselves have become members of this family. In the restaurant each evening hostess at approaches to each table and asked how was your day, whether it needs help and wants a good evening and stay .. The food in the restaurant is great. Service is good. When I said that I love to eat soup for lunch, and the restaurant on the beach it is not on the menu every day I prepared the soup.
We were in the low season, so the ocean had big waves, but even that did not stop us enjoy our stay.
There is much to write about this hotel, but better once myself go and get myself into this paradise on earth. Thank you Tango Mar.

My wife and I recently stayed 5 nights at Tango Mar for our honeymoon. We had a great time, would highly recommend it, and hope to return soon.

The Resort Itself
The resort itself is beautiful and all of the facilities are high-quality. The pools are a nice size and very clean. There are two restaurants: one that serves breakfast and supper and one that serves lunch. Each restaurant has a bar, and there is a third swim-up bar at one of the pools. We stayed in a tiki suite, which was very nice and exactly as advertised. There was plenty of hot water and the air-conditioning worked well. We did experience a small lizard in our room a couple of times, but they didn't bother us and that is to be expected when you are living next to the jungle. We stayed during the "green season," which means it rained just about every evening. This also meant that there were very few people at the resort and, at times, it felt like we had it to ourselves. Perhaps what I liked best about the resort is that it offers luxury accommodations yet you feel like you are right in the middle of nature. The resort is positioned directly between a beautiful beach and a gorgeous wildlife-filled jungle. If you are looking for a nice, quiet, relaxing resort with great amenities for a good value we would highly recommend this place.

Food
The food at the resort is very good. Some I would even characterize as gourmet. The prices are also reasonable, especially when one considers that the prices include 25% tax. I believe the prices are comparable (and maybe even less) than one would pay for the same meal in a U.S. city. For example, a fillet of sea-bass dinner was $20. They have a nice variety of cocktails to choose from. The cocktails are not made very strong, so be prepared to order several if you are looking to feel the effects.

Service
Service was great. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful, without being overbearing. Every staff-person we interacted with either spoke very good English, or enough English that we could accomplish whatever we were trying to accomplish without hassle or confusion.

Activities
The resort is quite large and there is a lot to do on the resort grounds. As previously mentioned, there are several swimming pools. There is also the ocean, though the currents are very strong (especially in the afternoon). The resort has some nice short hiking trails that lead to some amazing vistas. There are also several activities that are outlined on the website. We did the "super tour" which involved a boat tour of the local mangroves, hiking in a nature preserve, snorkeling, and a picnic on Tortuga Island. The super tour was amazing and we felt that it was a great value. It is especially useful for someone who wants a little taste of everything CR has to offer but does not want to spend an entire day hiking, etc. There is not much within walking distance of the resort, so you will have to arrange transportation to go anywhere outside the resort (e.g. some of the nearby towns). If you book through the resort it is about $30 per trip. The staff are knowledgeable and can provide more information about the attractions at the various surrounding towns. While the remote location may be inconvenient for those looking to spend evenings at the resort while spending days exploring the surrounding area, in my opinion this is a worthwhile trade-off for the seclusion and peace one can experience while at the resort.

Tango Mar is our definition of paradise. A lovely, secluded location, with all the luxury of a major resort. The owner is extremely involved in day to day operations and always makes an effort to greet and visit with each guest.
We stayed in a Tiki Hut and absolutely loved the sound of the waves crashing putting us to sleep each night. The Tiki Huts are delightfully furnished and offer beautiful views from the wrap around windows, but you won't spend much time in the room.
We rented a car ( I highly recommend this). While we loved the isolated location, it would have been a major miss not to have the car to see the rest of the peninsula. We were able to catch a surf competition in Santa Teresa, try some local beer in Mal Pais, go zip lining in Montezuma and eat some great food.
The food at Tango Mar is excellent! I was very pleasantly surprised by the variety of options and quality of the food on the menu.
The main pool was the only one we used and we loved it! The swim up bar was well staffed. Beautiful view from this infinity pool.
The beach was large and lovely, but extremely rough. Not a good place to swim. We did go in a few times but it was more of an adventure than other beaches I've been to.
All in all one of our best beach experiences. We will return to Tango Mar & enthusiastically recommend it to others.
